Eternal Sailor Gunn has been around the block a time or two, and to be honest, what she sees now makes her sick. In her day, when they carved their homework on slates, senshi tried to form up into teams and Courts and fought Chaos in teams, with resources and friends to call on in a pinch. Now she hears about people corrupting because they feel lonely. Useless. Drifting. What kind of world has she come back to? Not one she wants to live in. So what's she going to do?

Change it.

Her vision of the side of Order is one that, while not dedicated to fighting, is capable of it. Gunn's ideal Order is one that willingly comes together to support each other, even when not explicitly asked to. She wants senshi and knights that are aware that sacrifices might be asked of them--and want to fight anyway. Her mission is to put tools in the hands of those who need them.

order boot camp? what is it?
It's a game! Eternal Sailor Gunn, a military-trained mechanic capable of doing 32 pushups in a minute, has decided the average combat training of a senshi or knight is completely lacking, and so she's decided to fix that. She's set about trying to spread the word of a boot camp for Order-side senshi through word of mouth and text messaging. She is also recruiting others to help her keep the event organized.

There's no RSVP necessary ICly, but your character does need to show up in civ form ready to work--it's Gunn's opinion that if you can't trust your wingmen, you can't trust anyone, and she's not asking you to give up your civilian identity anyway. The event's held in a closed location, so there won't be any need to worry about a Chaos-aligned individual overhearing you tell someone your senshi name, especially since there will be no reason to think Order Boot Camp is anything but a new fitness group getting started.

Please keep in mind that Gunn's opinions are NOT mine. She """grew up""" in the era of the BMC and has spent a year in the military, so she is kind of a zealot for order, structure, and teamwork and has really high standards.

okay, how can my character get involved?
If you've met her in the past, you can be assumed to have gotten a text cordially inviting you to the DCU student union building for a day of first aid and power identification trianing. Past boot camp attendees or attendees of her Saturday training sessions would have heard through email. If you haven't met Gunn, then it can be assumed that you heard about it from someone who does know Gunn, or someone who knows someone who knows Gunn--you get the idea. If you want help organize the event, though, I will request at least one RP where your character broaches the idea with Gunn. JUST BECAUSE.

i'm not sure about the civ-side requirement?
That's just so we don't have to worry about getting interrupted by Chaos-side guys, really, because while I would enjoy an RP someday where the boot camp gets crashed, that is not this RP. You know?

how is this going to run?
I'll be posting a start post on June 4th for people to filter in. Sign-ups will run concurrently, from the 26th of May (today!) until the first prompt is posted on June 10th at 2300 PST (2am June 11th for you East Coasters); at that time, the first prompt will be posted, and sign-ups will close.

Order boot camp is a dice rolling game with a very, very mild stat-based component (which I will elucidate on in the next post). There will be five rounds, consisting of five "activities": warmups, mental fortitude, splinting, carries, and teambuilding. For certain results, you get certain amounts of points--and the two teams with the most points at the end of the game is going to get... prizes. Which will also be elucidated on in the next post. Rolling prompts will be posted every other day.

Make sense? OK! moving on!

As I said above, Order Boot Camp is a dice-rolling game with teams and a mild stats component. This stats component is so extremely mild I am sure a caveman with rudimentary math skills could do it, but if you have a problem, I will happily lend you a hand! BELIEVE ME, I understand having a hard time with math and did my best to simplify it as much as possible.

the mechanics
In every round, your character will be rolling a single ten-sided die to measure their proficiency in a certain activity. High rolls indicate that your character did better in the activity. Lower rolls indicate that your character didn't do so well. You will be choosing a statistic that grants your character an advantage in certain events, and this will be added on to your roll to reflect your senshi or knight's strength in that event!

At the end of the game, your rolls will be aggregated to get your character's total score (out of 50, with a possibility for more if you are really lucky with your rolls). Then your character's score will be added to your teammate's, for a total out of 100, to be ranked with the other teams.

There is no elimination mechanic. It's assumed that your character makes it to the end of the day without incident, although if you WANT to have an incident, that's certainly something we can talk about! (I once had heat stroke doing a mile and a half run.) (Incidents happen.)

teamwork, teamwork, teamwork
Your character will be paired off with another character randomly for purposes of determining (OOCly) who gets the PRIZES!!! This character will, ICly, be your character's "opponent", as well as being their partner for the team-building exercise. Since there are no prizes on the IC level (OTHER THAN THE GLOW OF KNOWING YOU HAVE MADE FRIENDS AND SHARED GATORADE) that's really all it is. smile

If there's someone you really want to be paired with please feel free to let me know over PM. UuU <3 HOWEVER, if you go for picking your own partner, your character will not be able to take the "teamwork" statistic--just for fairness on the OOC level. smile Part of the benefit of the teamwork stat is the risk inherent in the decision!

the statistics
There are three statistics, and you are required to choose one for your character to specialize in. In the three main events, one of the three statistics will receive a three-point bonus (indicated above in parenthesis).

However, you can also choose to not take a basic specialty, and instead take teamwork as your statistic--for which you will receive a one point benefit in the three main events, at the cost of one point from your own warm-up score. This is because ICly, teamwork is the point of the day; it's assumed a senshi or knight with teamwork as their skill is cheering on their teammate, increasing their will to GO HARD and GO FURTHER. If your teammate also has teamwork as their statistic, you'll both receive two extra points on the teambuilding exercise at the end.

So, to break it down: while taking a basic statistic gives you three points straight-up and guaranteed, choosing to take teamwork can give your character four points over the competition (eight total!) and therefore, an advantage over the other teams. However, taking teamwork is a risk, because you may not be paired with someone else who took teamwork, and then your team only get two bonus points.

Wisdom (+3 to mental fortitude): Your character can keep their head in a disaster.
Dexterity (+3 to splinting injuries): Your character is better able to splint injuries, due to flexible limbs ohoho
Strength (+3 to carries): Your character can lift a lot, and then carry it.
*Teamwork (-1 to warmups, +1 to fortitude, splinting, carries, possible +2 to team building): Your character has got team spirit.

Statistics idea + system ganked from Shazari and DivineSaturn's Aquarius game from the Surrounding metaplot!! I added the trick stat, though.

the events
This round, the three events are based off SABC--Self Aid and Buddy Care, or combat-specific first aid. Senshi and knights can expect to learn basic first aid skills. The day will conclude with a race--but one partner will be carrying the other!

the prizes
OOCly, prizes look like this: First place team will receive either the Silv prize pack (a stick for both players, of the character they played in Order Boot Camp) or the Romeo prize pack (a headshot for both players, of the character they played in Order Boot Camp). Second place team will receive the other prize pack!

Silv sticks: x x x x
Romeo art: x x x x

"A sound mind in a sound body!" -- Eternal Sailor Gunn
"Third place team gets fired." -- Squire Megiddo, probably.
