Sailor Auriga was drunk on her recent successes.
Well, make that success. Singular.
She had, but two nights prior, faced and defeated a Dark Mirror Super Senshi! Okay, so maybe she just made the girl get all pukey with her attack and than ran away from her, only to be saved the the alarm bell and the impending arrival of police who, when they arrived, took shots at Auriga -- BUT HEY. A win was a win.
The confident teen had been out patrolling every night since then, which was a big deal for her. She didn't really "patrol" so to speak. Sometimes, she would run around the city for an hour in her fuku before powering down and going back to her mom and stepdad. It was amazing the kind of things you could do when you had superpowers. It was like the world opened up a secret door to a club she never knew existed. On weekends, she liked to jump from rooftop to rooftop to "scan the city for danger." But in reality, Sailor Auriga was really a 14-year-old girl who, beyond some basic battle training, did not necessarily have the mental maturity or physical prowess to participate fully in the scope of her senshi duties. In many ways, she was more like a chibi senshi than a battle-hardened warrior like Gunn.
(Just don't tell her that.)
On this particular evening, Sailor Auriga was practicing the four basic battle moves that Gunn had showed her during Order Boot Camp. She did her punch, block, punch, block over and over again until the movements became second nature to her. The wind on top of the roof was strong, but she didn't sense any Chaos auras in her vicinity. The scent of doughnuts wafted over to her, making her stomach rumble. She was in a fancier part of a town, rife with designer boutiques and overpriced coffee shops. It was a place that her civilian side, Maggie Lawrence, loved to go to so that she could window shop and peoplewatch the rich and stylish.
But tonight, she just wanted to borrow their roofs for a little work out.
It was strange to think how much her life had changed. Despite her excited outlook, Auriga did take time to consider the negative sides of her life. She had seen people die, though not as many as others did, had gotten herself into some hot water with her mother and stepdad. They noticed that she seemed a little extra sleepy during the day, a little more irritable in the mornings. So far she had been able to hide her senshi side from her mother, but more often, she wished she didn’t have to hide it at all. Would it be so bad?
For now, Auriga would enjoy the moonlight and worry about adult troubles later… much later.
