The grass under his hooves squished into paste as he stormed back and forth, his strong wings flexing and unflexing in irritation. His spiked tail lashed back and forth haphazardly but he paid it no mind. He was too busy with the anger that was swelling in his breast. Who did his father think he was? A prince? Of what? Some good that title was here. It meant nothing to anybody but himself! His father was so self-absorbed that he thought the entire herd revolved around him. Truthfully, Helias doubted even Blod would mind if he vanished. It was not as if she was particularly attached to her children or grand children he noted bitterly to himself. Helias looked like her and still he was barely noticed. The only star to pay him any mind was Akane and that was because she had to...That was the whole reason she was even here at all. "NOTHING is ever good enough!" he shrieked, knowing he was far enough from the herd to let his emotions go. "No matter what I do it isn't enough!" His hoof stomped the ground again and he kicked at the dirt, the pent up emotions too much for him to control. "ONE DAY!" he started, "One day he'll notice I'm gone...Then what? His precious slave boy won't be there to do his dirty work!" Tears were beginning to well in his eyes but he refused to let them fall and he squinted to keep them firmly in place. "I tried so hard," he finally whispered to himself, eyes dropping to the ground at his feet that he had been tearing up. All he wanted was Belenus' approval...

Epiphora had been following Taranis. The younger stallion had taken to wandering around often as of late and she couldn't help being curious about where he went. Merely curious. Though she was at that stage the opposite sex was starting to look...Different, he still looked to her as the little foal Prince Belenus had brought back with him from somewhere far away. The carefree foal that the personalities of the rest of the herd never seemed to bother. He still tugged at her mane and pulled her tail when he wanted to play. Or cause mischief, usually in the form of playing some mild prank on a herd member. Never one of the higher ranked officials. The other kids were his main target. If he went after any larger, he always made sure the prank looked exactly like an accident.
Lately, however, he seemed to have become bored with pranking. Mischief was still in the cards, but they ended up exploring more than anything. Sometimes it was like he was looking for something or someone. He would never say what or who. Epi hadn't seen any strange Stars around the herd lately that she could remember. The herd's colors were pretty easy to remember.
Right now that was what he seemed to be doing. Exploring. Looking. He hadn't exactly invited her along, but she had tagged, anyway. He had not driven her back home, so she figured it was okay to keep following. Until she lost track of him. Leaving her from the herd on her own. This made her nervous. What kinds of predators were out here who would love to make a snake of a young Star?
With her ears pressed against her head in her distress, Epiphora didn't hear the sounds until the bright pink shape materialized in the distance. A familiar pink color, she moved closer until she seen who it was. One of Tara's older brothers. What was he doing all the way out here? And looking so unhappy?
Standing her ground shyly, the filly tried to raise her voice, unsure of how this herd member would react to no longer being alone. Shadow members could be so unpredictable.
"Uh...Hello?" Bit louder, Epi. "Are you lost?" Don't let him know you kind of were...

Helias' thrashing was brought to a sudden halt as he thought he heard someone call out. The yearling turned, curious as to who would be out this far. Sure, Taranis liked to wander and skirt around the edge of the Shadow territory but he he was sure he was busy doing something else today. His golden eyes locked on a blue form and this time he could hear her...sort of. It was Epiphora, one of Retinadeath's many, many, many children. Sometimes Helias thought that Belenus was just trying to compete with her for who can have the most offspring they didn't actually care about. Helias casually used his wings to swipe away the welling tears, making it look as if he was just scratching his forehead before he stretched them out and folded them back in a fake yawn. That would make him look less suspicious, right? If he looked tired or bored? He really hoped she hadn't seen him crying... "Who, me? Nah. I come out here all the time," he responded, stepping a little closer. Helias decided to stuff his anger at his father back down for now. Perhaps her company could be better than the forest's. "What are you doing out here?" he repressed a cringe as his voice cracked. So much for looking cool...

Oh, good. He wasn't going to yell at her or call her names for disturbing him. Or for being so far from the rest of the herd. Not that most of her family besides Cataracta would worry. She wasn't even sure if Taranis would anymore, he seemed so content on searching out whatever it was he was searching these days. Even when he was around he was preoccupied. He was obsessed by something she couldn't understand. It made her feel forgotten. Didn't he still enjoy her company?
Epi stood her ground, still feeling unsure about going any closer. Shadow members were tricky as well as unpredictable. She cocked her head to the side, taking in his bright fur and the little black marking on his leg. Tara had one exactly like that, just more elaborate on the bottom. Most of the herd was lost on her outside her own family, but she concluded he must be a relative of her friend. Hadn't Tara's father also been known for his...Produce? He wasn't from the same mother, though. Epi had seen Tara's brother. She wondered who the pinkish colt's mother could have been. A Solara was obvious. The rest of his markings and colors didn't seem strange to the Shadow.
When his voice cracked, she tried to stifle a giggle, the smile twitching on her mouth in the effort. Cute. "I was looking for Tara. He's run off. Are you his brother?"

Helias thankfully missed the twitch of her lip as he was much more focused on making sure he did not look ridiculous. He used his right wing to casually rifle his hair back, making it fall perfectly into place. After all, he'd been crying only minutes before. As a son of the prince, he could not afford to look weak or crazy. "Taranis? Yeah. He's my little brother. Father brought him back from his last trip. Him and Blake," he responded, mildly surprised she did not know. With how much his father talked about politics and everyone in the herd and what they were up to and who they were up to he just sort of assumed they all knew who he was. Then again, Helias was not very outspoken and other than fighter training, he was not good at much the Shadow herd valued. He often heard his father use the word "useless" to describe him. "I haven't seen him come by here though. He's always off doing whatever it is he's doing, we don't really see each other much," he responded. In truth, he did not want to get to know his new siblings. He did not want to do anything with the Shadow herd. He was a screw up anyways. Broke everything he touched. "I can help you find him if you'd like. Or try. Taranis is good at hiding," he added with an annoyed sigh.

Epiphora continued to watch him, still nervous about going forward despite the increasing lack of hostility. The urge to laugh had subsided, overpowered instead by the nerves. Taranis was fine, but who could say the same for the rest of his family? Like her own, she wasn't like the rest of them. Even Cat, the one member she got along with, had her interests different from her sister. Epiphora didn't really like to cause mischief. Even Taranis' kind.
As he confirmed her question, she nodded her head like she had known all along. Should she have? Maybe. In her opinion, not just for the Shadow Herd, but any herd member should know the rest of their herdmates. Outside her family or friend group-which only included Taranis if she could be honest-the rest of the herd was mostly unknown to her. At the very least she tried to keep up with the royal family. Mostly in fear of being kicked out for being ignorant. It wasn't her fault. She just didn't care much for the rest.
She guessed finding him out here on his own and the fact he seemed unhappy had triggered some kind of...Maternal instinct with her? She always thought of herself as too cowardly to approach someone in distress if she was afraid.
"I don't know," she said in response, quickly gathering herself when she realized it could be taken a different way. "Know what he's doing, that is." Lowering her head a little, she turned it to the side to try to hide the embarrassment. "He's been vanishing a lot, lately. It's not very important to find him, I was just wondering." She stood there, not looking at him now, feeling awkward for even bringing it up. She didn't want to bother him when it wasn't even important. Nor force herself on others. But it would be rude to just walk away, so she stood quietly, waiting to see if he'd tell her to leave.
