It had taken him a few days to get back into the mindset of even attempting a patrol. He knew he had acted somewhat like a child in that respect - but the the world could burn for all he cared, the one girl he'd actually had some sort of a connection with had obviously not reciprocated his feelings so what did it matter if the bad guys won. A world without her wasn't a world worth saving. It was a weak rationalization and one he soon felt guilty of. His duty to the people of the city - the world - didn't end just because he got dumped. Darren had then gotten himself mentally prepared, and decided to head out to do his usual round. Maybe he'd bump into Dallol - maybe he could vent a bit to someone who had a different view on relationships that him. Oh well - it was all good. Sneaking out of the window he powered up and headed out to his usual round, stopping at their usual meeting spot and hoping that she'd arrive around her usual time.

Hafwen had initially thought that the sooner she effected the breakup between Darren and her, the sooner she could put everything behind and resume her life just as it would be without him in the first place. Never did she know that she was so very wrong. A couple of days had passed since the fateful event and still she couldn't find the motivation to get back to her studies and soccer.
Every time she closed her eyes, she would see his tear stricken face from back then, feel the lingering warmth of his lips on hers and she couldn't stop her own tears that followed. Cutting off Darren like that, as she was slowly coming to realise now, had caused her to lose a part of herself. Yet there was nothing that she could do about it other than grit her teeth, bear with the pain and move on.
She wasn't looking forward to patrolling this evening really but she had forced herself to come anyway since getting out of her dorm to get some fresh air with the company of someone like Corinth could probably be the thing to get her out of her current funk. Plastering a smile on her face the moment she saw the Neptune knight in the distance, she quickly crossed over to join Corinth.
"Hey... I hope you haven't been waiting long. How's it going?"

Corinth had thought that seeing Dallol would have cheered him up or made him feel better. However, it was quite the opposite. when she spoke, he turned to look at her and his heart just sank to his feet. Her looks only made him all the more aware that he was suddenly single, and that he could attempt to make a pass at her if he wanted. But that would be a rebound, and Dallol didn't deserve to be a rebound. He sighed then, and shook his head slowly. "Naw, haven't been waiting long... It's been... kind of shitty actually." Corinth finally said softly. "The girl I was seeing... we kind of... broke up." He looked away and huffed. "But yeah, I can't really let that get in the way of our work so..."He let his voice kind of peter off as he felt the tears start to return and turned himself away, not that it stopped the shuddering of his shoulders any as he tried to bite back the noise.

This was turning out to be one hell of a week. First Darren and now Corinth too? Dallol found herself moving the moment she realised that Corinth was tearing up at the reminder of his recent breakup with, presumably, the Crystal Academy girl he had previously told her of. Slipping her arms around him, she tugged him into an embrace and held him close. "I'm sorry that it didn't work out between you and her. You don't deserve this at all Corinth."
Seeing Corinth so torn up like this, made her wonder briefly how Darren had been coping over the past couple of days on his own. That was her own doing and fault entirely. She ought to have known better than to soften up after that stupid dare and led him on, only to break his heart when he hadn't done anything to deserve going through such a miserable event. "Look. Protecting the city can wait for another day. It'll be even more dangerous if we come across one of our enemies while you're still in your current state of mind."
She spoke nothing of what she too was currently going through, thinking it unwise to further burden Corinth with her problem when he obviously already had a lot on his plate at the moment. Hugging him like this, in fact, was a very un-Dallol thing to do. She couldn't help herself though. It was low of her but somewhere deep within, she was fully aware that she was trying to do for Corinth what she couldn't do for Darren.
"Let's just take it easy for tonight alright?"

Corinth stiffened a little at the hug, it was completely out of Dallol's character to be this open and, well frankly, understanding about relationship troubles. He slowly wrapped his arms around her and giving her a weak squeeze. "Thanks... Though now I have to ask who are you and what did you do to the real Dallol?" He joked - halfheartedly at best. Was it bad that he still wanted to protect Hafwen, even after all this had gone down? He desperately wanted her to stay safe - he knew it wasn't something he was going to get over in any short amount of time.

There was no mistaking Corinth's awkward stiffening at the hug that Dallol had pulled him into. "I..." She quickly released him from her embrace, looking somewhat distraught for a moment as she tried to recollect herself to form a retort that was more characteristic of her.
"Don't be an idiot. I am Dallol." She stomped her foot on the ground then glared weakly at him in the hope that her display was enough to distract the other Page from realising that she too wasn't quite her usual self today.

"You didn't have to let go..." Corinth chuckled weakly, blushing a bit before looking away. "Sorry, I was joking... and thinking... things I shouldn't be thinking because I know you aren't the kind to want a relationship and a girl like you shouldn't be a rebound..."His face was flushed and he was trying his hardest to not sound flustered. "I mean.. that... uhm... you're just... capable and cute and smart and..." Nope, that wasn't helping at all. "GAH!" He threw his arms up and walked over to the side of the roof to look down into the evening street. "I hate this, my head is a total mess and I can't think straight."

"You... did you just confess that you like me Corinth?"
No matter how Dallol looked at it, everything from how flushed Corinth looked when he spoke of her as well as his ensuing reactions to his own behaviour seemed to be pointing towards an unintended confession. What the hell happened that brought this on? A rebound. Oh right. He did say that he had just gone through a very bad breakup with the girl of his dreams so there was a good chance that he was just transferring what he felt for that girl onto the next most convenient person who happened to be her.
She couldn't help the blush that coloured her cheeks and ears just from that particular train of thought. If that was the case, surely it was alright for her to do her part as a friend and play along with him for now. It would likely help him get over the breakup faster plus it would help some with the guilt that she had with regards to what she had done to Darren. Win-win situation for the both of them.
Crossing over to where she stood, she offered him a small smile, both her hands reaching out to take one of his before she tried to tug him back from the roof edge. "In any case, you should probably step back for a bit first lest you accidentally fall over the roof or something..." Once this rebound thingy was over at some point, they would just go back to how they were before this whole relationship mess came along and threatened to wreck their lives.
Things were just plain and simple as that.

As she tugged him back from the edge of the roof he turned, and he saw her against the backdrop of the city skyline. She really was beautiful - in her way. Corinth really wasn't big on conventional beauty standards - partly being raised in an ultra-feminist household for the later half of his childhood, and in part of his counter-cultural roots in his music. But she was just... perfect. She deserved better than the broken thing he was right then. She would be a rebound, and he did not want her to be one. He opened his mouth to speak but found he wasn't able to say what he wanted to say. Instead - everything he didn't want to say came rushing forth in one great torrent. "Of course I just confessed that I like you - I've liked you since I first met you!" He felt his hands pulling away from hers as he suddenly walked past her and into the center area of the roof, his hands suddenly going up in the air as if he was at wits end. "But I'm a one-girl guy, so I pushed it aside and kept our relationship professional, because that's what YOU DO. You don't let the fact that you can't go five minutes without staring at your patrol partner's a** interfere with your relationship. That you constantly wonder what she looks like under the pittance of cloth that makes up her outfit. YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU KNOW IT'S WRONG!"He spun on a heel, looking right at her, his gaze was intense - heated. "Like, I really, really want to kiss you right now and the only thing that's stopped me so far is the fact that I DON'T want you to be a rebound, dammit. I want you to be a real girlfriend but I gotta get over this girl or it's not going to happen. I don't want to be unfair to you...""I don't... want you to have to try and compete with a ghost - because that's bullshit..."He looked away then, flustered and frustrated and just ready to go home. This... had been a bad idea.

"Corinth... I..."
Whoa. Information overload. Rewind.
Did Corinth just went ahead and said that he wanted her Dallol, his shitty partner who would boot him off the roof if given an opportunity, as an actual girlfriend girlfriend instead of a rebound?
For a moment, Dallol just stood there in silence with a shell-shocked expression on her face as she pondered over the options avail to her. If Corinth wanted her for serious instead of being a stand in for the Crystal Academy girl who couldn't see him for his merits and chose to dump him, surely she too could contemplate the notion and perhaps reciprocate in kind? After all, the main reason why she chose to break up with Darren in the first place was because she was powerless to protect him if the Negaverse went after him again.
But Corinth... Corinth's case was vastly different. Corinth was a Knight like her. He could fight and defend himself if anything untoward happened. She wouldn't have to fear something like that happening again.
"I think that you're a great guy Corinth." She started, closing the distance that was between Corinth and herself to tentatively slip her arms around him to draw him into a hug from behind. "I like the fact that I can be myself around you and how you can roll with whatever s**t I throw your way." Pausing for a moment to wet her lips, she took a deep breath before standing on tip-toes so that she could give him a peck on the cheek and then resume the rest of the conversation as a whisper into his ear.
"I want to be with you. Give this relationship thing a shot. I'll wait for you. No matter how long it takes..."

His entire body burned the moment she started whispering in his ear. There was something about her hugging him from behind, her lips mere inches from his ear, whispering words he'd wished another would say... It was enough to break the poor boy's teenage sensibilities and just take the risk of letting Dallol be a rebound just for the chance at actually enjoying himself for once. But his damn honor wouldn't let him take it. "D-Dallol, I..."He reached up and gently extracted himself from the hug, turning around so he could just hold her hands and look at her. It made what he had to say harder - but it needed to be said. "If you're willing to wait as long as it takes, I want to warn you that you could be waiting a very, very long time. If another boy comes along, that you like - don't hold yourself back for my sake..."He looked away then. "Besides, I'm damaged goods anyway..."

As Dallol slowly lowered herself such that both her feet were now firmly planted on the ground, she felt her heart sink in her chest when Corinth pulled away to turn around and hold her hands in his, everything he was about to say apparent in his gaze and actions even before he vocalised them. He was only doing what he felt was right and fair to her till he was ready to get into a serious relationship with her subsequently. She could see that for herself though there was another part of her that wanted him to throw all caution to the wind, his code of honour be damned as he drew her into his arms to kiss her breathless. To use her just as she intended to use him as a rebound and an emotional crutch to help the both of them get through what they were facing in their respective lives at this point in time.
"My mind is already made. I don't want any other random boy other than you Corinth. I don't care if you're damaged or used or if you've lost your virginity to this girl who dumped you. The way I see it, you haven't done anything wrong at all and definitely deserve a second chance at being with someone else who is able to reciprocate your affections." But she couldn't bring herself to tell Corinth the truth. Afraid that that would cause her to lose him because of her own selfish reasons for choosing to give up someone like Darren.
"I'm... hoping that that someone can be me." She smiled bravely before she had to turn around to cover her face with her hands when she felt herself beginning to tear up. "But I know better than to stay around and keep harping about it given what you've just gone through as well as your current state of mind." Rubbing her face a few times, she took a deep breath to compose herself then turned back to face him with a small smile, trying to pretend as if nothing had happened.
"So let's just call it a day, take a week off from patrolling and reconvene after that?"

Corinth had been around enough girls to know when they'd been crying. Frankly, he was actually upset a little that she'd even try to hide it from him. If she was trying to save him from feeling guilty it only made it worse - because now he really knew that she cared enough to ensure that his own emotions would not be further damaged by her own actions. She deserved better than just a simple 'thanks for caring about me, let's just be friends.' She deserved better than him. But he was a man and thus had to do the right thing. He watched her for a moment, not saying anything before moving across the rooftop to her. He reached out and cupped her cheeks, lifting her head toward his own, he leaned in and pressed his lips squarely to hers. It was not a simple hello kiss - nor was it a goodbye kiss. It was a kiss that held a promise that he would, if she allowed him, do everything in his power to make her happy. "Please," he finally whispered. "If you want to be my partner... MY partner... you can't hide anything from me."

No matter what happened, you would never forget your first love and your first kiss. Whoever said that really wasn't kidding.
For a fleeting moment as they kissed, Dallol thought that she saw Darren instead of Corinth which made her freeze for a couple of seconds while she stared at him with pure disbelief reflected in her eyes. "I'm not..." Her heart was pounding wildly in her chest. She began to feel a little faint and lightheaded, having to lean on Corinth some as she reminded herself over and over of the need to breathe and the fact that she was now with Corinth and not Darren.
Corinth. How did he know that she was hiding something from him?
She instinctively wanted to deny everything. To keep the fact that she was with Darren albeit briefly a secret. Lock it deep inside her heart since it wasn't something that the other Page had to know about her. But Corinth hadn't left her any alternative in this. Of all the things that he had to say, he had to put their budding relationship at stake should she choose to lie through her teeth and deny everything to the bitter end.
Well, damn her if she did, damn her if she didn't tell him then.
"I... I'm not going to lie. I... broke up with someone recently." She lowered her head, her heart sinking in her chest as she covered her face with her hands again though that did next to nothing in stemming the tears that had sprung afresh from her eyes. "But you're not a rebound. I swear. I didn't mean to keep this from you. Please don't turn away from me..." She pleaded. She was pitiful. Pathetic. She hated being forced to lay all her cards on the table by Corinth's hand and face the possibility of losing him both as a friend and a patrol partner.

Was that all? He pulled her close to him, hugging her to him tightly. "That's no big thing, I trust you Dallol. I know you'd never hurt me." He'd thought the same of Hafwen - aside from the fact that she HAD given him a concussion but that had been an accident. Wait... Was it possible he'd pursued Hafwen so hard because she reminded him of Dallol, or was it the other way around? Was he allowing his feelings for Hafwen to bleed into his feelings for Dallol... So confusing. But he had committed himself to this. "Shhh..." He brushed her hair with his fingers and then kissed her ear. "Be still my Desert Rose. You won't lose me."
