Summer was coming to the swamp, Burning Bush could feel it in the way the air grew heavier and heavier. The ground itself seemed more inundated than usual. It was a surprise it was not raining yet, though the seer had no doubt that it would soon. She did not need foresight to know that. Behind her, there was a quiet thunk. The doe raised her head and looked around. All around here were trees so heavy with fruit they were bending downwards.
Oranges. She liked oranges, and though she doubted she would be able to bring them back to Westfen, she knew of a doe in the area that specialized in drying foods.

Burning Bush leaned down and grabbed as many oranges as she could with her mouth. But the number of fruits all around her and the number she could carry were so vastly different. She looked around for either a giant leaf or a hollow to put her plunder in. A few minutes away from the grove she found a great hemlock that had a gaping hole in the trunk. A pity for the tree, but a blessing for her. Burning Bush deposited her oranges there. Orange Count 04 Roll 01

Now that she had somewhere to store the gathered fruits, Burning Bush felt free to spread out and look for the best. The trick to preserving fruit was to pick the ones that were at the peak of ripeness. Since she needed to travel a few days to reach her friend, Burning Bush looked for the oranges that were just a few days shy of peak ripeness. Orange Count 06 Roll 02

Kiss of Death had awoken early before sunrise as usual and had been wandering around the swampy place looking for bones all morning. This time, she was desperate in trying to find an intact skeleton. But after a while of searching and digging around in the mud, there was a sweet fruity scent that mingled with the Northern wind as it swept across matope. The sweet smell of ripened fruit lingered in the air. The smell of oranges to be exact. She whistled loudly, and her companion followed closely behind. Since she hasn't eaten yet, she followed the scent with her nose and kept her eyes open. Up ahead there was a doe, grinning at all the kin who had come out of curiosity, and without knowing Kiss of Death got lured in too. "My my what have we here," she said to the doe as behind her was a vast sea of oranges! "They look ripe enough to match the colour of my hair.." After hearing what the doe had said to her, it was her turn to grin. Collect the most oranges. This to her, sounded like a game. A game of eat and take. And free food for both her and her companion. She gave the doe a quick nod and sprang into the sea of oranges, kicking and squashing some as she ran through it making a path of her own.

Death watched her companion try to get past the sea of oranges to keep up with her and couldn't help but give out a loud grunting laugh as she lost balance trying to step on the fruits and fell stomach first onto the orange. "Come here you," she spoke to Half Alive and kicked a few oranges out of the ramcat's way. "I'll make a path for you so you won't lose me or I lose you in this sweet sea of oranges." It appeared that she had kicked a few oranges just a tad bit too hard for it flow in mid air and ended up hitting another kin nearby. She stared in horror at what had happened but covered her shocking face with a sly smile. "Sorry, didn't see you there." And she waited for a response. Maybe the doe would kick some back for fun or ignore her completely. roll 1 oranges 4

"Tis no problem, there's more than enough for all of us." Burning Bush was talking before she looked back, but when she did finally get a look at the kin who had spoken to her there was an air of familiarity to her. Odd, but not surprising. Passing familiarity or vague recognition was something that the seer had long gotten used to. The only question was if she had seen the doe in a dream or in real life. Perhaps her name would jolt a memory.
"My name is Burning Bush, what might yours be?"

There was something about this doe but she could not pinpoint it out. Skin a bit more rough than her own, she had a feeling that this one travels with a group and not on her own. Death had always wondered what it's like to be away from the swamp but didn't dare leave this place. Maybe one day, when she has gained more courage she will give it a try. "There sure are a lot of them." She rolled a ripe orange under her hoof and squished it, spilling out its juice onto the dry soil. "Kiss of Death," she replied to Burning Bush. "I live around here, in the swamp."Minsuil It's ok. Real life comes first. roll 2 oranges 1

Kiss of Death, a name that rang no bells. Odd. Perhaps she was antiquated with a relative or something. Something of the doe's coloration... But no, the details still slipped from Burning Bush's memory.
"Then, you must be familiar with this orange grove. Is the harvest always so plentiful and neglected?"

Burning Bush continued to collect oranges as she searched her recollection. Briefly, she recalled a buck with a scaled tail from the flower festival inquiring about his "kind". Ah, that must have been why Kiss of Death looked familiar. Perhaps she was a relative of his?
She walked back and forth between her storage space and the grove selecting what oranges she could find.

The sweet crisp scent of oranges clung to her skin, and her nose. Burning Bush wondered if it might wash out, but then she mused that she did not mind smelling like oranges at all.

She looked at the doe and chuckled. "It is my first time visiting this place. Came by today to quench my thirst from the burning sun." She bent over, head low to the ground, and bit into an orange. Still, Kiss of Death was unable to figure out where this doe was from. the markings on her body was eyecatching to her. "Do you come here a lot. Maybe?" she asked, and swallowed what she had chewed. roll 3 Oranges 4

Kiss' ramcat found a nice round and plump orange while the does chattered away. She tried hard not to lash her claws at the fruit and carefully rolled it back toward her leader through the cleared path that Kiss had made for her. With a long purrring noise, she pawed at the doe's tail tail to get her attention.

"Ah, I see. No, I am only passing through, though I think I might have to pass through more often. These oranges are quite delicious."
Burning Bush bit into an orange as she paused in her collecting. Already, her hollow was almost filled. She would need something to help her carry these oranges lest they be wasted.

Kiss of Death watched her with much interest. "A traveler, are you?" she asked, as she finished eating an entire orange. "I must keep watch of this place in the future. Maybe I can find myself a mate here, one of these days," and she laughed at the absurdity of it. She noticed how resourceful this doe was as her hollow tree trunk started to fill with many bright oranges. Roll 5 oranges 1

"Yes, I suppose you could call me a traveler."
She shot the younger doe a knowing look, and threw back her head and laughed. All young ones seemed to have the same few thoughts running through their heads. Was she the same in her youth? Sometimes she could not recall.
"Take an old doe's advice, don't worry about the future. What will come, will come."
