He's stronger now, he can feel it. Powered up in his uniform he can run faster and jump higher, even carrying the giant plush that is his 'weapon'. Though how a stuffed toy is supposed to help him fight he's still not sure on. No, he's better off learning to fight with fists and feet rather than try and swing that thing around - though it'd probably give a good wallop if it caught someone in the stomach. The thing is, Kail mused as he wandered, he'd never really tried fighting before, or even thought about it. The powerup hasn't changed his frame - small and slight - and it hasn't got him out of wearing thick-lensed glasses, though whatever bestows outfits on people has changed the usual round spectacles to thin square ones. Not exactly the typical fighters build.

But then, he hadn't started out being awesome at robotics either, he reasoned. Practice made perfect. So here he was, hanging round a junkyard to try and practice punching things. His current target was an old sofa - soft enough to prevent him hurting himself, but firm enough to give a good resistance. The sound of flesh hitting foam echoed quietly in the old junkyard as the button eyes of his weapon stared sightlessly into the night.

No worries!

Merlinite was excited to be stronger, to have proven himself strong enough to get the promotion at all. He was eager, he was happy, and he was motivated to keep on pushing toward his ultimate goal of being the biggest bad a** this side of Chaos. He wanted everyone else to know it, too, and to build himself some kind of a reputation. He had been lazy about it so far, but there had to be more from him.

He had to have a purpose, right? He was not made to be a lackey, and just follow in the shadows of others more powerful than him. He was supposed to have his own road. His own meaning.

He was going to build one, a reputation that could precede him and he would be happy to hear about.

"You'd think you could find a better partner for practicing than that poor old sofa," he said, walking up the aura he had been pinpointing for a little while now. He was getting better at that, too: recognizing and following auras. "I think it's already dead. Not going to put up much of a fight."

Kail had been completely focused on his task with his usual tunnel-vision, so the appearance of another startled him and he swung round with a yelp, fists raised. Upon seeing another negaverse officer (admittedly one with a fancier outfit, which probably meant they were above the level he was ; remember to be polite, best manners, yes yes?) he relaxed a little, blinking owlishly and pushing his glasses up his nose to try and focus on the other male.

"Sorry...sir? I didn't see you there."

Or sense him, or hear him, or anything. He should really try and be more alert to such things, he told himself. It was unlikely to happen, though - at least until he got more of a shock than a friendly (presumably) person appearing. At the sofa comment he shrugged before remembering he was supposed to be polite.

"It's better than wrecking my hands trying to punch metal, I guess."

"Well how about you try and punch me, instead," he said, bracing his legs and looking at the other Nega with a grin and a glint in his eyes. He liked the idea of being able to better communicate with others now. Before, he felt like he was too weak and too far below anyone's radar to matter. Now he had a bit of a boost.

Now he was a Captain. That had to mean a lot more.

"I'll be your sparring partner. What are you trying to accomplish, anyway? Just working on your swing or trying to perfect your form? You'll never get anywhere with a target that's not anywhere close to what you're fighting in real life. I doubt you'll meet a senshi as short as that."

Though, he supposed there were those little kid senshi, the ones everyone hated and had conflicting feelings about fighting. He was not sure he liked them very much, either.

Not because they were kids and he felt guilty about it, but because the ones he had met so far were really annoying. As kids tended to be.

Ah yes, Senshi - the enemy. Kail had lucked out and not seen any yet, but then he'd not spent much time powered up yet. It was only a matter of time though - which after all, was why he was doing this training in the first place - he could take civilians out with a quick negaverse-boosted knock around the head, or get them to touch him and start draining them - but senshi were different. Dangerous. And well, Kail was kinda....weedy. Small and slight and babyfaced. Which was great for tricking civilians! Noooot so great for fighting. So when the other offered to spar he was torn between a few different emotions ; gratitude for the offer, fear about getting hurt - and the worst of all, anxiety about being touched by a stranger.

But in the end, Kail's determination to finish what he started won out and he inclined his head slightly, pink hair falling across his face as he did so.

"Thankyou for the offer. If you're willing to put up with the fact I have no clue what I'm doing, I'd love to!"

The Captain watched his Negaverse compatriot with his keen, devious eyes, grinning ear to ear at the promise of being able to help this guy. He needed to prove to himself that he, Merlinite, was capable of training and bettering others, so he could better himself and continue this climb up the ranks. It had been a long time coming, getting to this first step, but he was absolutely determined now to keep the climb up going.

"Hey, we all start out not knowing what we're doing, right? So just put that thought aside and don't let it get in your way. If you want to get better, you gotta think you already are. Get it? So just take a swing at me and see what you can do."

He lifted his fists and got into a more appropriate battle stance, holding the position as he watched the other Nega keenly. He was aware this was not a real battle, but that didn't mean he was just going to make everything easy for him.

But at least he didn't call his new spikey club to the battle, though he desperately wanted to use it because it was so damn cool. He'd wait for a real fight for that one.

Personally if he'd have known about the temptation to bring out a large spiky club, Cobaltite would be extremely grateful that the other had resisted ; his own weapon (rather useless right now) still sat where it had been left, a tiny tug at the corner of his mind reminding him where it was. But his attention was drawn away from the tiny tug as the other Negaverser spoke and assumed a fighting stance. Cobaltite stood still for a second, observing the other's stance, before trying to copy it.

It wasn't very good, but it was a start at least. He threw a punch slowly, pulling the force behind it, unwilling to accidentally hurt the other....as vanishing as a possibility that was.

Merlinite smiled, and realized for a scary second that he felt a twinge of something wholly unfamiliar when Cobaltite made to mimic his stance. The other was learning from him, which was not something entirely new to Merlinite since he had trained people before in his civilian life... but he never really attached himself to the event in any way.

But for a second he was pretty sure he felt something like pride, just knowing he was actually helping someone, and not just faking his way through it.

That was weird.

"You're going to have to swing harder than that," Merlinite frowned, good feeling fading a bit as he focused. He shook his head and moved to fix the other's stance, kicking his feet so he stood with a bit more balance, and making him lift his arms a bit more. "Put some power in that punch. I'm a Nega just like you: I can take whatever you've got."

Kail adjusted his stance obediently, nodding seriously as his eyes narrowed slightly. He waited for Merlinite to get back in his own stance before throwing another punch - this time not pulling it at all. It wasn't a particularly strong punch, even with the negaverse's power meted out to enhance it. I mean, it would certainly have hurt a civilian, but to another more powerful nega it was.

Well, pathetic seemed a little mean to call it, even if Kail had tucked his thumb in instead of out, and not twisted into the punch to put all his strength into it. As the meaty thump sound of a fist on flesh faded into the night, Kail waited for further instruction, still keeping his stance high.

Merlinite stood there and knew the punch was coming. Everything in him told him to get out of the way or fight back but he stopped himself because he knew this was supposed to be training and this was his idea. He would not be very good at being a General if he could not even be a Captain and help someone train.

He was learning as well, so it was going to be a bit of a process.

Merlinite grunted when it connected but he was surprised by how weak it was. He did not think this one was held back, which was not a great sign. This kid needed a lot of help.

"Oh man, you have a long way to go. But don't worry, I'm going to help you figure this out, alright. The first thing we're going to do is teach you to throw a punch."

Even if they had to be there all night, practicing over and over, Merlinite was going to make sure he knew that one skill before they were done.

A bit of a process was probably going to be right ; Cobaltite might have thrown tantrums as a toddler, but past the age of about three, he'd never hit someone deliberately - and past the occasional horseriding lesson insisted on by his mother, excercise had been somewhat missing from his experience too.

But there was one saving grace to his ineptitude - and that was determination. Cobaltite was revelling in having a purpose, and if learning to fight was part of that purpose, so be it!

So when Merlinite spoke, he nodded fiercely.

"What do I need to fix?"

Melinite looked the other over, nodding his head as if taking many mental notes on his stance and his build.

"First, we're going to get you some muscle. You need to work out, while powered up, and start learning how to use your power and your body together. I know it can be tough, going from nothing to basically a super hero, or villain depending on your perspective, but it's a good foundation to build on. Once we've got you moving better, we'll work on your stance and your motions, okay?"

He thought that sounded like a good plan, and he grinned.

"We'll start a schedule tomorrow, and do, like, an hour or half an hour a day, or whatever, you know?"

This was new to him, too, but he suddenly really wanted to help this guy get strong, and to bring out the best in him. He had never invested in another person before, never thinking he needed them, but maybe this was his path to success. Plus, though he couldn't explain it, something about the promise of helping Cobaltite made him feel... good!

Cobaltite hadn't really put much thought into the whole super-hero/villian thing, and his face crinkled up a little in distaste at the idea. All the same, they were more powerful than normal humans now, which was technically superhuman....Hm. Still, he wasn't sure he liked the idea of being a hero. Or a villian. Neither tended to have good endings.

Cobaltite nodded as Merlinite spoke, rocking on his heels slightly and fisting his hands in the slightly silky texture of his uniform as a comfort. He waited for the other to finish speaking before replying.

"That sounds like a good plan. I don't know much about excercise...I will have to do some reading."

I mean, if you asked him to name muscle groups and the like, he could do that! He just didn't know what was the most effective way of training them, that was all.

"Alright then, we'll meet up again in a couple days, okay? I'll put together a lesson plan, and we'll start from square one. I'm going to make you a tough Nega-fighter, you know?"

He grinned at Cobaltite, giving him a thumbs up.

Merlinite was going to take this seriously. He was going to be a good Captain, damn it, and this was his real first chance to do it right. He had not been serious about much so far, besides his own advancement, but he was beginning to see that there was more than one way up the ladder. If that involved bringing someone else up with him... well.

"So we'll meet up. Uh. Here. In two days, okay?" He was already moving off, his mind on the plan now. He was going to make the best, more rigorous and effective training regiment ever seen by anyone, ever.

To his own suprise, Cobaltite found himself smiling back at Merlinite, albiet a little nervously. He even gave a thumbs-up, and then, realising it was obscured by the length of his sleeves frowned and pushed it up and repeated the gesture.

"Two days, got it. Um, before you go, I'm K- uh, Cobaltite. Thanks for your help, sir!"

And then, realizing it had got late and he better get home, be began to jog off too in the opposite direction, still thinking about what he could do to improve things.
