Hijil watched from her branch perch as the Radaku paced below. The remains of the fight were slowly being reclaimed by the jungle, the bodies decaying as the heat took its toll, the weapons sinking into the soft ground. Fungus was already starting to grow on the bodies, wasting no time in getting nutrients from them.
What wasn't decaying was the Radaku's loyalty. She had watched it for two days now, and it stood only to take some meat from the other corpses, returning always to it's master's lifeless side. It had protected the body from scavengers and the other beasts of the forest.
Hijil felt sorry for it. She wanted to leave it to its grief alone, but it attacked anybody that came near it, which made it dangerous. She had to take care of it.
She stretched and pounced down, trying to tackle it so that she could kill it quickly, cleanly, and humanely. It struggled against her, clawing at her until it threw her off. She stood in a defensive stance as it growled, assessing.
Fighting was less than humane, but as long as it was out of its misery, she was at peace with it. It lunged and she deflected it, but it was agile and well trained - it landed on its feet, snarling, and Hijil could see this turning into a long, drawn out battle.
It Lunged again, howling and, throwing it off, Hijil escaped into the trees, watching it growl and pace below before returning to its master's side. She sighed. Poor dear.
