Tau eyed the treetops and heaved a heavy sigh. He looked to his pet scorra standing next to him and patted Darrow’s side. ”It looks like you can’t come along this time.” The scorra honked towards the canopy and eyed Tau, as if this was intentional. ”Don’t look at me like that.” He cocked his head to the side and pushed the scorra’s head away from him. ”Last I checked you didn’t like hunting. Remember last time?” Tau thought back to the previous attempt to use Darrow in combat. It didn’t go well, with Darrow nearly throwing a fit and then running off. Tau had been left all alone to fight off five aldabuk, though it wasn’t that difficult, he still would have appreciated the help. Tau huffed and mock-glared at the scorra. ”Wimp.”

Tau looked to the spear in his hand and wondered how this would work. He had seen a group of serrafin in the tree tops and after his success with his last hunt he was feeling mighty cocky. He knew that the serrafin, though smaller than kinfa, were just as feisty, and more than ready to take out an eye or two. He only knew his spear though, and again found himself wishing he had an archer with him, like Liira. Damn was she lucky. Tau pulled the spear through a loop around his waist and tried to secure it like that. It seemed to hold enough that he could go scaling the tree, so with one last look to his pathetic scorra, he was off and into the trees. He wasn’t like the shifters, with their climbing all day and night through the tall Jauhar trees. He liked his feet on the floor. But alas, if he was to be a great hunter, he would need to learn to deal with the hand he was dealt, and he was really feeling for some bird meat for dinner. He licked his lips at the thought and continued up into the branches. The height was staggering and Tau just tried his best not to look down. One wrong move and he could be splattered on the ground with his scorra picking at his parts. Gross.

Tau made it onto one of the thick branches and wrapped his arms tight to anything that looked solid enough to not wobble. The serrifs were right ahead, he could see them preening themselves and occasionally squawking. He let go of the branch and rubbed his hands together. Show time. He pulled his spear from its spot on his back and gripped it tight. This was the delicate part.

Tau moved forward, slow at first and then picking up speed. By the time he reached the serrifs he was near running down the branch and with one mighty swing he lashed out at the birds. He caught one in the throat, knocking it down to the forest floor, unconscious, but the other two flew back in time to get out of the way. And they didn’t look too pleased that their friend was probably pretty near death. They came down on Tau in a rage, using their claws and beaks and whatever they could to get to him. Tau held his hand up over his head, his spear still somehow in hand and ran back towards the trunk. Too bad the birds followed. They continued to peck and claw and bite at him until with one false step he was falling toward the ground.

In a panic he screamed out, a high shrill afraid-of-heights sort of scream that would potentially make ears bleed before he was cut short by a group of low lying vines. With a solid “Oof” Tau was caught in the vines and feet above the forest floor, hanging in a tangled mess. His spear had made the complete drop and seemed to be split and cracked where it had landed. Damn it. Tau shakily took in a breath and searched for anyone who could help him, but not a soul seemed to be in sight. He hung his head low and tried to think his way out of it. With a heavy breath and defeat in his voice he called out. ”Darrow…” Maybe his scorra would be able to help him out of this mess. The bird eyed him, seeming to play dumb, turning his head to the side and awkwardly trotting his way. The bird gave him a few sideways glances before letting out another squawk and trotting away. ”C’mon.” Tau begged out.
