Tau scratched the top of his head before putting a hand back onto his scorra. He still wasn't completely used to having a pet… and Darrow was one weird pet. But he wasn't one to linger on things for too long and what he did know was that he needed practice, and Darrow could use it too. ”C’mon Darrow. Time to break you in for real.” He had been “training” with the scorra for a while now, but that was mostly him trying to potty train and get him to behave himself. So really it wasn't training. It was just Tau trying to beat his pet scorra for doing bad, and the scorra having something to say about all of that. Tau had more than a few bumps and bruises from going against his stubborn, idiot scorra. Thinking back on it, he should have just named him Twit.
He slapped the back of the scorra, still on a leash, and walked it through the town and out towards the plains between Tale and Jauhar. Now that Tau was older he was starting to get more and more responsibility and one of those responsibilities happened to be feeding himself and his scorra and whoever else he could get food for. He wasn’t exactly the sharing type, but his mother had beat him enough for doing bad that eventually Tau got the hint. He looked to his scorra and sighed heavily. They really weren’t so different from each other, though Tau didn’t really like to lump himself in with Darrow.
When they had reached the plains, Darrow was already squirming and pulling and tugging. He hated his leash. But Tau couldn’t really trust him otherwise. He grabbed Darrow by the beak and swung his neck around to face Tau. ”Stop it now. We are going hunting and you’re going to help. Got it?” Darrow huffed and snorted in response before Tau let go of his beak and he gave a little snap toward Tau. Tau flicked his beak and turned to look down the plains. Further on the horizon line he could see shapes. And it looked like a lot of them. Tau would put all of his money on the shapes being Aldabuk and he was going to be getting some Aldabuk meat for dinner tonight. He smirked and gripped his spear tighter. He almost wished he had a bow for this, or had brought on Liira. She would be helpful right now, the way she was able to poke him full of arrows during the tournament. Tau pulled Darrow further along and whispered to him, knowing he couldn’t really understand a single thing he was saying. ”Alright. Here’s the plan. It looks like there could be about fifteen of them. If you circle around and scare them my way…” The bird looked to Tau like Tau was an idiot before sitting down on the floor. ”Seriously?” He kicked sand at the bird before sitting down himself.
Being like Tau in almost all ways, Darrow began to furiously dig the sand out of his feathers and moan and complain to Tau every second of the way. ”Guess I’m going to have to do this myself, right?” Tau huffed and stood up from the floor, using his spear to pull him up. ”You’re no help.”
Tau sighed and pulled the leash and collar off of Darrow. ”Fine. Go home, run around, do whatever you want. But you’re not getting any meat.” Tau threw the leash around his waist and cinched it before stalking down the plains toward the shapes in the distance. He still had a ways yet before he would be noticed, but he had to start thinking strategy now. There wasn’t much to hide behind out on the plains, so he guessed his strategy would have to be rush in and charge the group. Sounded good to him. He pulled his hair back and out of his face, securing it in a bun before gripping his spear with both hands and squirming forward slowly. He might have to charge in on them, but he knew that the less he had to run the better his chances were.
He finally broke into a run and charged the group in front of him. From the looks of it, he was right at guessing around fifteen. He swung his spear out and probably out of pure luck happened to catch five of them in the legs. The other ten took off running down the plains and out of sight. Tau brought the spear down and managed to take down two of the five and they went limp in front of his eyes. Tau hesitated a moment, not really expecting this. He had never really killed anything. And in the second he stood there one of the others got to his feet and rammed Tau from behind. Tau stumbled forward and grunted in irritation. He was over his first kill already and brought the spear down on the one that had rammed him, getting him on the ground and dead. He managed to bring down one of the remaining aldabuk’s before the last one got its footing and took off toward the others.
Tau huffed and looked down at the dead animals beside him. Darrow reappeared at his side and squawked a head pounding squawk next to Tau’s ear. ”This could have been you a few months ago.” Tau pointed down to the aldabuk and grimaced. ”Alright, let’s get these things home so someone else can take care of them. I’m not that’s for sure.” He patted Darrow on the back and rigged a harness for him. He tied off the four kills and wrapped two of them to the harness and the other two to his spear. Darrow shook and complained before Tau bopped him one on the head. ”Let’s go now. The longer you complain the longer I can’t eat.” Tau took a breath in and put his spear over his shoulder, pulling the fresh meat behind him.
