Noemi's small body lay still in the hospital wheelchair she had acquired. The bandages that most were sporting now reached up to her neck, barely touching her chin. Most had face damage as well, but hers remained okay, if not a lot of sunburned. The freckles darker then normal. it hurt more then anything to move, and she wasn't sure why she had...but she came to see Milo. Crawling into the chair to be wheeled in by a life hunter had sucked, and she had even cried a bit but...
She just wanted to make sure the one who brought her back was okay.
But really she wanted to talk to him.
And understand why she was like this. In a small raspy voice, she whispered.
"Why did you make me go...?"

By the second day, Milo found he was able to sit up properly, there was still a dull ache in his back but not as prominent as it had when he initially woke up in the hospital; mostly only if he twisted a certain way. The bandages around his face had lessened as well, a few pieces of gauze left stuck on in some sort of care with a few wrappings to secure the side of his face that had gotten the brunt of it. His arms remained the same, though Milo didn't feel like he wanted to do dramatic hand action from pain when he moved his fingers. All in all, he felt better.
Koume had gone on about how hard she was working and how he didn't appreciate it. The Sun tried to assure her he did (realizing more and more of how much the Tengu helped).
But he was still there, needing one more day until release - and even more before he could get back on active duty which gained an agonized sounding groan from him. They had given him a random book, something called Divergent. The pages were being flipped but Milo couldn't really say he was reading it.
He would have been happy with the distraction that came, the person it actually was (and to see that she was okay, albeit being in a wheelchair at the moment) but not with that sad sounding question. Milo's smile fell and he almost turned away from her. But he couldn't, he chided in himself - Koume as well - because a hero didn't turn away.
"Sorry, Noemi-chan." They could still apologize at least. "Didn't think it would get that bad." The usual cheer in his voice seemed toned down, like he was trying to actually be serious or something. "Not that they don't get bad and all,"Though in his experience, this might have been the worst of the bunch he had dealt with. Even being eaten. "It's what we're supposed to deal with, ya?" They were Hunters after all, at least what he constantly reminded himself.

Noemi couldn't curl into the chair anymore then she wanted. She felt terrible, coming at Milo with that question now. He had done his best to protect her the whole time and yet...and yet she knew neither of them would be like this if not for him. She didn't blame him, she couldn't. She just didn't know how to be anymore.
"It is not what I am use too..." She looked at her bandages, peeling a bit of them. "I did not want to go, I was terrified. You said it was an adventure, and I thought, I could be brave but this...but that..." She shook her head. "Is that what we face everyday? They didn't tell me this...They told me if I came to Island, I would keep parents safe. That if came to Island, I could learn to deal with these shadows. They did not say eaten...they did not say death."
She could remember the stench of flesh and blood. Wading around in it. Oh god, she wasn't sure if she could handle it.
"This was a cruel way to show what our lives are like now." She wheeled closer to Milo and sadly looked at him. "Thank you for protecting me as best you could."

Even in such a situation, Milo let out a small breath of a laugh at what Noemi told him in her quiet voice. "Don' think its what any of us are used to," he admitted. He never could figure out how he kept it together, especially when seeing how the smaller Hunter next to him was reacting. It wasn't like he had been on the island that long, had seen too much (so many had seen more, worse). Television maybe? Or maybe there was something off with him. Koume chuckled, wanting to comment on that.
"Thought it would be fun," he went on with a sigh, leaning back against the pillows of his bed. "sometimes it can be, going to different places and seeing different things, ya know?" There were monsters, it had to be expected. Always were. It was what he had expected, had come to learn. Did they tell him he would encounter them? They probably did, it seemed to fit in the job description. They had played to his interests upon his recruitment, if he remembered correctly. Told him he could be a super hero. And they fought against something.
Milo didn't mention it to her. But also couldn't see how she didn't come to expect it herself. Though, the being eaten and the death parts. Not as cool to realize or learn about. Noemi-chan," he began then paused. His lips pursed for a moment before they twitched into a sad smile for her, "cruel ya, but that is our life now." Another sigh as he attempted to scratch at the bandage on his cheek. "Its okay to be scared, ya, some great heroes were in the beginning." How many countless reds had found themselves suddenly in their roles? How many pulled through to see it in the end, "just gotta use it and make yourself stronger." His smile turned to something more earnest.
"It's no problem, what are neighbors for?"

"How do you laugh..." She looked over at him, "We could die...we should've died but you laugh?" She didn't mean it to sound harsh, and it wouldn't seem like it in her quiet meek voice. "I don't understand, other hunters here are so...so strange." She shook her head, "They laugh at things like this, and make jokes. But it doesn't seem funny. It's scary!"
She closed her eyes. "It is not your fault, I should not blame you. I am just....I have never dealt with this, even in books and movies. Sheltered. I live very sheltered till I came here." She tried to explain. "We live good, on the land and faraway from people. I only had my mami and papi."
"I thought...I thought they would teach me not to see shadows, or the creatures. To...um...block them out." She shook her head again...."How do I make myself stronger...Too scared..." She sat in her chair, already defeated by her self confidence. "This Island is not for me is it? I will not make it long here..."
Especially if she already felt herself breaking from just one mission.

It did sound a little harsh, it sounded like she was scolding him on bad behavior. It was just a personality thing, and all Milo could do was curdle another chuckle. "Its feels better than being worried all the time, ya know?" Was how he explained it to her. Because laughing at the danger seemed a better use of his emotions than letting it all get to him, then he'd never get through a job.
As she explained her situation, Milo shifted himself on the bed and eventually sat on the edge of it with his feet over the edge and planted on the ground. "Might also just be a Sun thing since we gotta be on the front lines and all." The brunet leaned closer and rested a hand on one of her's, "You're Mist, ya? If I remember right you get to like do all the jobs, you can find where you fit in here, ya?" He tried to sound reassuring and encouraging.
"They wouldn't recruit ya if they didn't think you were up to snuff, wahine." He told her, giving her a squeeze to her hand and a little wink.

"I...I guess." She looked up at him again, "I am too scared." She nodded, "So maybe I take a page from your book? Not laugh all the time...but try not to be scared." She stuttered a bit..."I might take awhile."
She blinked as he started shifting, waving her hands. "Ah Milo, You shouldn't be moving!" She immediately flushed as soon as his hand touched hers, but she didn't move it away. Small things, small steps. "Si, Mist. Must work hard." She was almost trying to turtle away even with his encouragement.
"I............I'll try." She whispered meekly, "Could be..." Ah she was shaking her head no, as if to tell Milo that she couldn't. Her hand moved under his, squeezing back just a bit before moving away completely. "What...What does Wahine mean?" just to change the subject, thinking about the dreary stuff made her want to cry, and to be stronger, she would not cry.

Milo would have waved off her concern, but his hand was holding a firm grip on the bed least he fall off it the way he was leaning in his attempted comforting gesture. Instead he shrugged which tingled his back, "nah, Koume is doing good work repairing me." The tengu snorted a chiding 'duh.'
"As I'm sure your weapon is too, ya? And then you can get back on your feet." He went on in his upbeat tone, not missing that small squeeze of her hand. It was alright that she pulled it away, really. Simply meant he was able to push himself upright and lean a little on the bed (despite wanting to just let it linger somewhere on her persons, because it was just funny how she didn't like it). "Trying is good though, I'll help if you wanna." A nod. "And remember, you dun gotta be a total badass, still gotta be yourself but it doesn't hurt to be a little tougher." He could think of countless heroines like that. And he opened his mouth to rattle a few names but then her question.
"Aa ~ well, its the Hawaiian word for 'woman' ya?" He explained, scratching at his cheek. "Like, its not the best word," he paused, "not that its derogatory or anything but I wanted a cool word to use for girls like how you call dudes 'brah' and it just sort of stuck, ya know?" Milo never felt like he was the best at explaining it. Taani hadn't liked it either.

"That is your weapon name?" Noemi shifted a bit closer, "If Koume can hear me, I hope you heal Milo soon! He does not deserve to be chained to the infirmary beds. Oh...also thank you for healing him." Satisfied, the mist hunter sat back in her wheelchair. "Melusine is my weapon's name, she is mermaid. She doesn't like these burns from fires, so she is doing her best to cool the pain." She nodded.
"Yes, though...perhaps chair is more fun?" There was a slight teasing and amused twinkle in her eye, perhaps a figment of imagination. "Tougher, but not badass. Will try to do this."
She blinked, because he said Hawaiian and she had never met somebody (though she had met Milo of course) from the Islands. "O...Oh? So like nickname?" She gnawed her lip a bit, "Ah perhaps...should I call you...Brah?"

Milo nodded at her question and had to laugh at the words she directed to his weapon, the female simply scoffed and made a comment to correct the pronunciation of her name - she might be letting him slide for now but he was going to introduce her properly. "Ya, Koume Shizuka. She's a tengu." He told her, said tengu snorted appeased. "That's a sort of Japanese bird-like demon." He explained, since it might not have been that common of knowledge. "She says she's doin' her best." She hadn't, not a word on that subject matter but he would indulge his cute little friend. Getting the information about her weapon though, the Sun was getting ideas. Awesome ideas.
"They look more fun, totally." He smirked as he lifted a foot to one of her wheels and pushed lightly on it. Teasing back, completely, and just pleased to see that small twinkle back in her eye or at least there at all. And her resolve, she seemed in such a better mood now, Milo was happy.
"Ya, nicknames, kinda." He would think of a proper one for her soon, but at least had more of a direction. Milo swung his foot back against the side of the bed again with a small thumb and stretched himself out. With a small crack. He winced a little. "You can call me brah if you wanna, kinda weird though." Especially from a girl.

"I see." How wonderful, weapons were interesting. Hers seemed to be...not so much scary as far as creatures go, which was probably a good thing. "Ah, she spoke to me as well?" Noemi clapped her hands a bit, "Thank you again Miss Koume!"
His small push was met with a very gentle sway of the chair backwards. Just a bit.. She righted it and nodded. Though he mentioned Brah being weird to call him.
Hmmm...
"I will come up with different name for you! Or...Maybe I will just to stick with Milo?" She added, "O..Oh!" She looked up at the clock hanging away before waving her hands. "Ah...I've been keeping you too long here..." Not that he was going anywhere. "Maybe leave you to rest again, this okay?"

Milo just kept on indulging her, "totally." Again, not really, at least in the way that the Sun was making it out to be. Mostly it was Koume grumbling and telling him not to speak such lies about what he was telling the 'ghoul' and whatnot. Though he mentioned from time to time what a nag she was to others, eh, this time it seemed he wanted to make a better impression. Or something. Or maybe at least to the Mist.
Or something.
"Yeah, give it some thought." He told her with a small nod, as far as his body would allow with such movement. His back was still a little sensitive after all. "I'm tryin' to think of one for you," as he did with everyone. But now there was a direction to go at least. It was at least a good though before he realized she was trying to excuse herself. Made him a little sad to lose some company.
"Nah, you haven't really," he told her, wanting to extend the visit. "But if ya really wanna go, you're totally able to, ya know." No way did he wanna make her feel like a hostage or something. Or keep her and stuff. Free country and all, right? (Was it?) At least he got her in better spirits from the looks of it. That was at least a high note to end the visit.

She was delighted. His weapon would take care of him, and she was being nice to her. Melusine thought that was nice as well.
"I will!" Or she would try. her fall back was usually mister and miss. Mister Milo....That sounded stuffy. She watched his face fall a bit, then return the smile before settling her chair.
"If you don't want me too, I will not leave yet!" She gave him a crooked smile. "Do...Do you wanna hear a story or something?"Chirigami All of the rps. Just all of them

He let out another laugh as he carefully pulled his legs back into the bed properly, well close to it. Well, at least to look more like an eager little child being told they would get a story before bed time. "A story from Noemi-chan? You bet!"

She tried to think of one. She was trying really hard.
"So...So once upon a time..." Noemi started, blushing because it sounded ridiculous. "There was a little girl! And she liked animals! Lots of animals. She lived on a farm you see, and they raised all sorts of animals." She nodded, "Like cows and horses and some sheep...and a couple of pigs. She had a pet bunny once, and later a big dog. Sheep dog!" She brought her hands up, miming the sheep dog.
"A..and one day the girl found a colt...that's a baby horse! It's leg had been hurt and there was no parents around. So...So she asked her Papi and they helped it heal and then it became her best friend. She named it Spirit because it had a lot of guts." Noemi smiled fondly. "And Spirit and the girl would go flying through the farm. Have you ever ridden a horse Milo? Have you ever flown like that?"
