Lorne had been beyond surprised to wake up, realizing he no longer looked like him. He'd grown again and in more ways than he'd realized at first. He could see his hands were larger, and legs longer. It wasn't until he'd stumbled into the bathroom he realized that he'd evolved as well.
Standing there in front of the mirror he studied himself a little and realized he had absolutely nothing that would fit him right. So, tugging on the much too tight clothing he did have he slipped out while Bast slept, not an unusual occurrence and began prowling to find something suitable.
It was early enough that though he got some odd looks at how he was dressed there wasn't as many people as there would be in a few hours time. No, now was the time to get the things he needed. He had recently acquired a lock picking kit and had been practicing with it. It was a highly prized possession he kept on him at all times not knowing when it might come in handy.
Now was no exception. He was standing by a store he'd passed by many times and always slowed to look into it, entranced by the clothing there. Stealing around to the back he found the backdoor and quickly let himself in. He'd cased the place before and knew there was no alarms, so he merely closed the door behind and carefully crept through the dark store.
It was a classy place, upscale clothing for the discerning customer. Oh, he was discerning alright.
It took some trial and error, but finally he found something he liked in a size that worked for him. One sharp nail was used to carefully loosen the seam in the back of the pants and he pulled everything on, making sure to grab socks, and shoes...and for the hell of it a hat which he flipped onto his head at a roguish angle.
His old clothes he kept hold of to dispose of elsewhere, and as he prepared to leave he stopped a moment and threw several more outfits into a few of the shopping bags the store offered. He'd need more than one set of clothing after all!
Pausing in front of the full length mirror there, he grinned as he took in his new look, the dashing suit, the splashes of red. Oh yes, he was glad he'd picked these clothes, they looked good! He just didn't realize how good until he was moving back towards his and Bast's hideout and got stopped by a couple of girls who ooh'd and ahh'd over his clothing, and began to flirt with him blatantly enough he picked up on it, and ran with it. He swept off his hat and bowed to the trio of girls, calling them all 'beauties' and such, making the girls titter in shy delight.
He was saying his farewells when one of the girls darted forward a slip of paper she'd written on suddenly shoved into his jacket pocket, and she daringly kissing him on the lips, a grin crossing his face as he reacted on some unknown instinct and let one hand rest on the girls lower back pulling her closer and staring into her eyes a moment with a wink. "I'll be sure to give you a call soon beautiful." the other two girls gaped as their friend was released and they giggled more. As Lorne stuck his hand into his pocket, with it he had the girls wallet that he'd pulled from her pocket as he'd pulled her close. None of the three had noticed!

Bastet woke after Lorne had left and something had her in a particularly foul mood. She could sense that all was not the same as when she'd gone to bed and it was definitely not something in her favor. This irritation, compounded with the fact that Lorne wasn't around to complain to/at/about, just put her in an even worse mood.
She stomped about the house they'd recently claimed as their own in a silk pajama top that was much too large for her. It'd been one of the few things she'd actually managed to steal on her visit with the Kitty Kat twins. It was one of the even fewer things she kept, most everything else had been sold. Despite what little she'd snagged, they actually got quite a bit of money from it. Thank goodness for the twins' employer being one of the most sought-after designers in the world. The filched jewelry had gone for a hefty sum.
Growling and ears pinned flat to her head, she stormed the kitchen, raiding the place for food and finding the last of the cereal and milk. Fixing herself a bowl, she sat at the counter, on one of the less-rickety stools they're found.
The house was silent, other than her angry crunches. This was not going to be a good day.

When Lorne finally breezed in after the little impromptu meeting with the girls he dropped his bags into his room, eyes glancing sideways and noticing Bast's door was open. Well, best to get this over with he reasoned. As he neared the kitchen he could hear her eating, and he merely moved to the cabinet to get himself something to eat, he was starving at this point! He was avoiding looking at her at the moment, knowing that this would likely not go over very well. Finally he sat at the table with his own food and began to eat, not yet glancing up from his bowl of cereal. He also didn't realize that from the pocket in his vest a scrap of paper was sticking out, and on it was Call me sometime! 555-5555, Candace. Oh no. If he'd realized it was visible, he'd have done something about it before sitting.

As Lorne walked into the kitchen, Bast had barely noticed him out of the corner of her eye. She was still half asleep and staring into the bottom of her nearly empty bowl. It wasn't until Lorne actually sat across from her that she'd noticed anything.
She looked up from her bowl, spoon in hand, her half-shut eyes going wide. Her ears shot forward for brief moment before sliding back to their prior state, flat as they could go. Eyes narrowed and her grip on the spoon tightened. A low growl began to well up inside her before she erupted, throwing the spoon at Lorne's head and roaring, "WHAT IN THE NINE HELLS DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" With Lorne's reflexes, the spoon would most likely miss its mark, but Bast couldn't care less about the fate of the utensil at this point.
Her eyes furiously darted around, taking in all aspects of the newly grown and evolved form of her companion. Oh, no, that hadn't escaped her, nor did that little piece of paper that was peeking out of his pocket. Before he could react, she scrambled over the table, knocking her stool over and snatched the paper from him. She sat on the table and read it to herself. If Lorne had thought she couldn't be more mad than what she'd just been, he was sadly mistaken.
"Candace?" Her voice was low and calm-sounding. Very eerie, given her prior outburst. "Who's Candace?" She looked up from the paper, her claws digging into it and an undeniable rage in her eyes. "And why do you have her number?" Her voice wasn't changing in octaves, but she had asked the last question through gritted teeth.

Lorne had just barely taken a bit of food when he felt the spoon collide with his hat, knocking it to the ground, and his eyes followed, spoon still in his mouth.
Calmly he pulled it out and set it back into his bowl. "Well, I was having breakfast...." there was an undertone of Duuuuuh to his words, and with ease flicked his tail at the hat and up at him where he caught it and slid it back onto his head.
It was the sudden action of her clambering over the table that had him slide his food to the side to keep it from being spilled all over, his eyes widening. She was behaving so weird!
This question though...it made Lorne laugh a little, uncomfortably. "Oh..some girl that I pretty much literally ran into on the way back. Her and her friend thought I was cute and talked to me for a bit. I think she likes me."
There was an amused laugh to his tone, eyes lit up a bit more than they ought to be. Though he tugged out the stolen wallet and threw it on the table. "Wonder how long it'll take her to realize I nicked this from her when she kissed me."

The expression of the Meowth girl hadn't changed as her narrowed eyes bored into his own while he tried to explain. It wasn't until he'd mentioned kissing her that Bast's eyes went wide another moment, her tail curling around her and her grip on the paper loosening. Her hands fell into her lap as she sat on the table and stared at Lorne.
"K-kissed? Y-y-you kissed her?" At this her voice was trembling, but still the same, low volume. There was obviously more she wanted to say, but that was all she could mutter at this point.

"I didn't initiate it, but I saw the wallet in her pocket and took advantage of the moment, and so I did return it, though the moment I had the wallet in my hand I broke it off."
The expression on her face was lost on him as he tugged his food close again and returned to eating. He was starving! Though after a few more bites he realized she was still sitting on the table.
"Bast?" he was wondering what had gotten into her.

"Ya know, ya think yer so damn smart!" Her fire returning, she crumpled up the paper and threw it at Lorne. It harmlessly bounced off his hat and into his bowl. "But yer not! Yer just a damn fool!"
With that, she pushed herself off the table and rushed to her room, locking the door behind her.

The crumpled paper was plucked from his bowl, and he turned to toss it into the trash even as Bast fled the room and he gave something of a sigh. "The hell is eating her?" He took his time, dithering over washing his bowl and spoon before he was finally going to her door, and knocking on it. "Bast...open up the door and talk to me..."

By the time Lorne had finished everything and knocked on her door, Bast had finished getting dressed and ready for the day.
She flung open the door and pushed her way past him. "Move," she growled as she headed out the front door, slamming it behind her with one final warning. "And leave me alone!"

"BASTET!" he yelled her name as he reached out intent on grabbing her arm, to yank her to a stop.
"What the hell is wrong?! I'm still me, just an older me. Don't you see the possibilities? The capers we can pull off now? Think god dammit!"

Bastet tried to wrench her arm free to no avail. "I. Said. Leave. Me. ALONE!" At this point she started slapping and clawing at his hand, trying to free her arm. Tears were beginning to well up in the corners of her eyes. She wasn't thinking about heists. How could she? She didn't want to admit it, but she was thinking of Lorne with some... woman, not her. She was jealous and felt betrayed. How could he go and grow up without her?

"I'm not leaving you along Bast. I want to know why you're mad at me!"
it was her tears though that had him letting go of her arm, a stunned expression. She was crying Bast didn't cry! Was she okay?
"Bast...." his voice softened as he did reach out again. "It'll be okay...you'll see..."

"Jus-jus' leave me alone, Lorne!" she managed to choke, trying not to sob. She turned and wiped her tears on her shoulders. Ugh, how awful this whole thing was! Not only was he grown up and she was still a child, but now she was crying AND he was seeing her cry. The whole thing was just making her even more angry!
She began to walk off again, wanting to get as far away from him as possible at this point. She needed to cool off and being around him was definitely not the answer right now.

Lorne gave a deep sigh watching her walk off, but he did as she asked, and stayed put to leave her alone. Maybe once she calmed down they could talk. Or so he hoped anyhow.
He continued to his room and shut the door, looking down at his now much too small bed and flopped onto it anyhow, half off the bed and grumbled. "Ugh. What else can go wrong?"
