Kazeno Uta stretched her wings carefully as she flew. She loved flying, loved the sound of the wind around her as it fluted through the strands of her hair, it was musical. The Melody of the wind. Kaze No Uta, for which she was named long ago by parents long since gone and far distant. She missed them, but they had sent her out in the world to seek her fortune. No trifle of money or other shiny things that humans and crows alike seemed to adore... no her fortune was to be love. She knew this from the time she was a foal, first popped. She would have stayed with her parents, would dearly have loved to, but her mother said that Kazeno would never learn to love another as she should, if she were to stay with them. They sent her out to fly, start a family anew in the world, a family composed of friends and others, of those who would always be dear to her heart. She was to find many to love, and one to love more than any, until she was to love baskets of her own most of all. All very neat, and pat, she thought. She was quite certain that life did not work quite that neatly, but she was game to give it a try. She loved and missed her parents, but she did see the wisdom. For herself she would have hesitated to leave them, for fear they would need her. She loved them, but she craved the chance to love someone who needed her, who she could truly aid and protect, love and care for, who would see her as something truly special. She loved her parents, but they had each other. She needed someone who would one day look at her the way her sire looked at her dam.
Motion below caught her eye. Fish in a small lake in the middle of a sunlit wood. How lovely! She let her thoughts slide away for the time being, intent on a long drink, and perhaps splashing some cool water on her hot flanks. She glided in for a landing, when something caught her eye. Motion that wasn't a fish. She twisted, pivoting in midair to see if it was safe to land and...
Don't ever suppose it is impossible to trip in midair, to stumble on nothing. Wings could stutter as easily as hooves, and unlike hooves, she only had two wings. She listed to the side, tried to right herself and stumbled into the branches of a tree. A small gasp and she fell the rest of the way to the ground. Thankfully, she had been nearly landed, so the fall was not overlong, but... a throbbing pain bore the bad news. Her wing was torn. Not much, though she couldn't tell that the wound was small, superficial. All she knew was that it hurt, and she was laying on the ground... then she remembered suddenly that something had scared her, startled her. Whatever it was, if it meant her harm, she was helpless. Not a comforting feeling....

Nigiri swam in the lake, his body gliding through the water easily. Swift smooth practiced strokes, carried him in dives and dips as he stretched his muscles. It felt good to get away from his family for a time. It wasn't that he didn't love them--but that it was nice to get away from them and enjoy the silence. He felt guilty even saying that, they were everything to him. It seemed wrong to enjoy and long for time without them. Yet here away from them, all he could think about was them. Funa and Yakinori were probably playing practical jokes on each other. Kisu and Ikuara were probably plotting revenge why Onigiri was probably out gathering seaweed. Daddy Nori was probably beside himself trying to reign in the joking and dueling duo while Gunkan was trying to keep an eye on Hirame, Kurage, and Sashimi who were still young and very mischievous. He missed them, even as he longed to escape. He loved the chaos in ways he couldn't explain. He--he saw a shadow far above him and surfaced to see what it was. A colorful being tumbled from the sky head over heels and struck hard. Dripping wet, he hurried over to the mare who was bruised and looked in pain, "What can I do to help?"

She stared up at him from her place on the ground. Like some sort of knight or hero, he had come rushing over when she was hurt. It made her feel... well... humiliated. She was a silly filly indeed, to have dragged him to her side like that. Clearly there was no danger here, she had tripped over nothing. But then, here was this handsome male, rushing to help her, and dripping wet. She must have disturbed him. Foolish foolish filly.
She flushed in iridescent colors so that her face matched her spots, and as the flush crept across her, hid them. It did not help that he was about the most handsome male she had ever seen.
"Sorry," she said softly, nearly a whisper. She knew others had called her voice musical, but it seemed horrible to her now. Even if it was musical, would he think that the sing song tone that she could never quite shake was an indication that she was not serious? That she had called a false alarm to disturb him? He blush grew deeper, until the whole of her was rainbow colored. She had the weirdest way of blushing, and it embarrassed her even more. She wanted to get up, but she was half terrified that if she tried, and stumbled, she'd make even more of a fool of herself than she would just by laying there. Her tongue felt thick in her mouth... and she realized she was laying on something sharp. A stone or a twig. She was a mess. She wanted to just... sink into the earth and disappear.
She opened her mouth to tell him that she had tripped, that she would be fine, but she found herself tongue tied, and the throbbing pain in her wing was not helping matters. The water her was dripping on her was refreshing though... as was the sight of him. She flushed again, just as it was starting to consider fading. This was not the time to be focused on how handsome she found him to be!

Nigiri looked at the way her skin flushed beautifully, but he couldn't figure out what for. "Is something wrong? Are you okay? How can I help?" He asked her earnestly as she laid there on the ground looking up at him.
He looked over her whole body quickly, her wing seemed a bit frayed. "Is this it? I can find a healer or bandage it myself." He didn't know what to say or what to do. She seemed so helpless and hurt, and flushed.
Gently, he pushed her hair back from her face. "Do you want me to look at it?"

Okay, so she was pretty sure that she would never stop blushing. He was so kind, and handsome and sweet. And here she was, a klutz on the ground. And when he brushed back her hair... yeah. She was going to be blushing the rest of her life.
The problem was, she didn't know what to say that wouldn't make things worse. She wasn't usually a klutz, she was rarely tongue-tied, but when one hit, why did the other so often follow? It was as if they were a pair of co-joined twin imps of mischief. The mental image amused her, and that loosened her enough to speak without the terror of mangling the sounds into inarticulate unrecognizable random vowels.
"If, If you would," she said softly. "I... fell." Okay, so it was lame, almost pathetic, but she had managed actual words. Words that made sense! That sense of achievement would, she hoped, make it easier for her to find her feet again, verbally as well as physically.

Nigiri pushed his wet hair back out of his face as she stuttered out a reply. So that was it, she was a bit shy. "I'm not going to hurt you," he smiled at her. "Deep breaths. Let's get you to your hooves and see if anything is the matter. We'll go slow. I'm here for you, so don't worry. I've got quite mischievous siblings, so I know a little bit about first aid."
He attempted to help her to her hooves. "My dad, Nori. He tried to save my dad, Gunkan once and almost drowned himself. Nori thought that Gunkan was stuck in some seaweed and tried to save him, only to get himself entangled. That's how they met. I have his grace, which is none. So don't be embarassed. If you'd waited another minute or something, I'd have tripped over water." He smiled warmly at her.

Her lips twitched, despite herself, as he spoke, especially at those last words, that last bit. "I tripped over the air," she said softly and demurely, "so I couldn't be one to judge..."
The rainbow colored blush was still fully in effect, but at least she was able to speak again. She took this as a win. It was progress. She could do this. She knew she could. She could have this conversation.
And she wanted to. There was a lovely melody to his voice, a cadence that sung to something inside her, and she wanted to sing with it, to hear their voices mixing in true song.
Perhaps sometime later, if their association lasted that long, they would have such an opportunity. It would be a lovely thing, really. She hoped it would happen.
But first...
First... she really should get herself off the ground. It would be easier to sing together if they were on the same level. Physically, at the least.
She accepted his help, but where her tongue was loosened by his humor, her muscles were still tight from the impact. She tried to stand, but it took her several tries for her to even be able to bend her legs. Longer for her to be able to shakily stand, even with his assistance.
And of course, it taking her so long just to stand made the flush, which had finally started to recede, to come back in full...well... blush. Rainbows of embarrassment scintillated under her skin, declaring her self proclaimed folly for all to see.
Where all, of course, meant the handsome stallion before her.

Nigiri helped her up gently, but it took awhile and some coaxing to get her to her feet. "It's fine, really, don't worry." She still looked shaky, but she was standing. "You'll get your strength back in a minute or two."
Across her face were brilliant hues like a rainbow. It was like watching the heavens after a rain. He felt a blush creeping into his own cheeks (though never as pretty as her would be). "I don't mean to be forward. But you blush beautifully, it's a work of art."
He smiled at her warmly, trying to show it was kindly meant. "I'm Nigiri, by the way. What's your name?"

Which, of course, just made her blush even more. She was starting to get light headed from it, really. He thought she was beautiful? Had he seen his own reflection recently? Art? Her? Seriously?
Yeah... she was never going to be able to stop blushing. At least he liked it... that was something... right?
"K.." Deep breath, try again. "Kazeno Uta," she whispered musically, letting the air take her name. It usually was a source of pride and happiness. She loved her name... usually. Now she thought he would find it silly indeed. When did one stallion's opinions go so far towards reshaping her own self worth?

Nigiri tilted his head at the sound of her name, it was like the sound of rain on the wind. He repeated it, tasted the sound of it out on his own tongue. "That's lovely," he said blushing more profusely himself.
"Are you from around here? Or are you just passing through?" He smiled at her. "Would you like some dry kelp or...well, I don't know what you eat?" He said half in question.

"I..."
It sounded so silly now, it truly did. But he had asked her a question, and she had been raised to be honest.
"I.. am searching," she said softly, looking down in hopes that she might blush less if she didn't look right at him. The face that he was flushing too was making her feel oddly giddy and light headed.
