There wasn't really a particular time of day that Hijil liked to scout. In the Jahuar understory it was always dusk, save to the south of Neued where the trees thinned to sandy desert. She had determined, however, that the Obans were active in the daytime, much like most other earthlings, so she patrolled most often during that time. It was best to monitor their activities when they would actually be doing them.

Today was uneventful. She had monitored the movements of a known Oban outpost in the jungle, reported it, and moved on already. She had checked on the movements of Oban squads she knew of, determined they were no threat, and was continuing to make her rounds of her Jungle home when she came across a recent battle. A skirmish, really, one of many such skirmishes that took place in the jungle and bloodied the soil.

It was new, the blood not yet washed away by the forest rains, and Hijil decided to investigate further to bring what news she could back to Neued. Any encounter, no matter what the result, was important news to the town turned outpost, and she wanted to bring back as much information as she could.

From the bodies, a group of shifter hunters and warriors had come across several oban archers. That the bodies were still here boded ill for all involved, they had likely retreated and were waiting to retrieve the bodies at a later time. Which probably meant that she should not stay long. It looked as though there were more Oban dead than shifter dead. A good sign, perhaps? She didn't know.

A growl raised the hairs on her neck and she saw, out of the corner of her eye, a flickering glow. She turned, slowly, to see a radaku, large and scarred and bloody, standing protectively over the body of a shifter - a rider by the spear. It snarled and snapped again as Hijil looked at it.

Poor dear. Its master was dead, and it was likely alone and upset. She offered a hand to it, snatching it back before the Radaku could bite it off with its snapping jaws. She wanted to bring it back to camp - a trained animal like it would be very useful for the war effort, more so than here where it was but a danger to travellers. She clicked softly to it, trying again.

It charged at her, snapping, and she leapt away, scrambling into the safety of a tree. It snapped at her again, and then returned to guarding its master.

"Hmmm..." she murmured. She'd come back later, when it was calmed down a bit, perhaps.
