The Stables

The stables of Castellum Argentus show a simpler side of the grand castle. The large, barn-like building has the dual levels of ground floor and hay loft above. The horses are kept in the well-tended stalls that line the walls of the space, with hangers for bridles, lead lines, and tools beside each of the wooden enclosures. The soft sounds of the whickering and ninnies can be heard at any given moment, or perhaps the impatient stomping and snorting of some of the larger males. The walkway in the middle is kept clean of debris, and all of the equipment looks well tended. Near the back off to either side are small rooms. The one to the right is used to store all of the grooming equipment and tack supplies like blankets, crops, saddlebags, and saddles. The other room is for food storage, filled with haybales and bins of oats, carrots, and grain. The occasional mouse can be found scurrying across the floor or up a ladder to the safety of haybales or other hidey holes.

Stall Locations:
Near the back of the stables-- Alucina
Not far from that (two stalls forward, same side)-- Orin
Across from the grey stallion-- Fera
Owned Horses:
Sunshade- Temperamental and regal, Sunshade's difficult to handle for a lot of people, but doesn't tend to give Muris too much trouble.
Zora- Elegant, Zora can be a little finicky if she's not pampered enough, but is generally a rather gentle and mild-mannered mare.
Orin- Lazy. Orin seems to enjoy eating a lot, and likes to nibble at people's hair. Otherwise, he's very laid back.
Nimlote- Finicky to a T. She's just like her owner- manipulative, competitive, and has to have things just -so-.
Fera- Doesn't like males, and tends to have quite as much spirit as Sunshade.
Altaea- Unclaimed
Dearg- Unclaimed
Alucina- Very sweet, this is the one that Muris has her eye on, though she hasn't mentioned it to anybody but Alces.
Unowned Horses:
Palomino male- Very spirited-- nearly hurt himself with impatience when he wasn't walked early enough.
Dappled grey stallion- Very nice, gets along with Alucina, tends to be a bit mild-mannered
Tack:
Six saddles cleaned (this includes stirrups)
Ten bridles cleaned
Thirty halters/lead lines cleaned
Twenty helmets cleaned
Chores:
Mucking out stalls
Cleaning Tack
Feeding/Watering horses
Grooming horses
Exercising horses

Session Start
(open to any. ^_^)
Muris clambered down the rope ladder leading from her room to the stables easily-- she'd had plenty of time to practice since she was awakened and claimed the room up there. It wasn't that there weren't stairs leading to her room-- there were. But they were in pretty sad shape, and so she felt that it was just safer to use the rope ladder, especially when Sissy had to come up so often.
King Cervus had told the little mouse that she could pick out a horse for herself the other day, but she had wanted to make absolutely certain of which one would be perfect for her first. With all of the excitement about her friends growing up, she'd been unable to concentrate on this very important matter up until today.
As she set about her morning chores-- the first consisting of feeding the horses, she thought about this for a while. She knew which one she -thought- she wanted, but she couldn't be sure. Not without trying to ride her. The problem with that was that she was so small it might be a bit dangerous for her to go about it by herself.
She had periodically ridden some of the other horses, putting the stirrups up as high as they would go and being very careful..but Sissy had been with her then to keep an eye on her and help her in case something went wrong.

Now that he had had a few days to rest and regain his strength from the change, Alces was on his way to visit his horse. In one hand he held a carrot or two that he planned to give him.
As he entered the stables, Alces began humming to himself as he passed the other stalls, heading towards the back of the stables to his horse's stall. He eyed a few of the other horses as he passed them, continuing to hum to himself until he got a feeling that someone else besides the horses was here. He stopped his humming and scanned the interior of the stables, watching for any sign of another Fey. At last, he noticed Muris and smiled, "Hello Muri!" He gave a friendly wave and stopped once he arrived at the door to Orin's stall.

Muris jumped a bit in surprise, then smiled at her friend as he came closer, "Hi Alcie!" she beamed, skittering over to hug him. His new form still made her a bit edgy, but there wasn't anything to be done for it, really, "What're you up to? Here to see Orin?"

The young man knelt down as she hugged him to return the hug. With a nod he replied, "Yes, that is what I am here for." He smiled wider and held out the carrots for the young girl to see, "I even brought him a treat! I hope he likes them. I don't know if you've fed him carrots before or anything." he began to stand up again and held out the second one, "Would you like this one? You could give it to that horse you would like!" He suggested happily. Glancing over at Orin who was currently standing in his stall, staring at the two of them; being lazy as he usually was. Alces shook his head at Orin and let out a small half-laugh type noise at the horse before turning his gaze back to Muris.

Muris blushed a bit as she took the carrot from him. He seemed very determined about her having her own horse. She supposed it was simply because it seemed wrong that the person who spent the most time in the stables didn't have one.
"Er..I guess," she said, "And Orin'll probably like 'em. Most horses like little treats, though if you feed 'em too many they'll get fat."
She stopped a few stalls from Orin's at the one containing the gray filly she'd shown Alces first when he was looking for his horse. Pursing her lips a bit, the little girl hung over the bottom half of the stall door, offering the little creature the carrot, "I think I'd name her Alucina.." she mused out loud.

He gave a nod to Muris and grinned towards his horse, "And this one would obviously get fat if given too many treats since he is one of the laziest horses." He laughed as Orin snorted as if denying the fact that he would become fat before lunging for the carrot that Alces hadn't even held out for him yet.
Alces had to take a step back to avoid having his hand bitten and blinked at the horse, "We are going to need to go for a ride today." he told the horse as he held out the carrot and the horse hungrily ate it; despite the fact it had just eaten breakfast.
As Orin was happily eating the carrot Alces smiled over at Muris and commented, "That's a very pretty name."

Muris giggled, stroking the filly's forehead gently, "True. Orin doesn't like to exercise all that much. He might get mad at you for taking him out today!"
The little mouse clambered up on top of the stall door and sat facing Alces, her legs swinging back and forth, "He's been pretty good for riding, though, right?"

"I wouldn't be surprised if he got mad." He laughed and then leaned up against the door of the stall to give the horse a pat as he ate his carrot. "But he's going to go out for one anyway." He looked at Muris again and nodded, "Yes, yes he has been. In fact, the other day he actually galloped longer than just a few seconds willingly! Of course, once he saw a very green patch of grass he stopped to try and eat it, but I managed to get him going again. Have you ever taken that future horse of yours out for a ride?"
He glanced over towards his horse, who was just finishing up the carrot and eyeing Alces' fur around his neck and arms. Alces noticed this and took a step away from the stall and continued to smile at Muris.

The mouse tilted her head thoughtfully, "No, I haven't taken her out yet. I wanted to wait until I could to decide whether she's the right one for me..but since she's big I hafta wait until I've got somebody with me to ride 'er..just in case, 'n all.."
She hopped down off the stall door, wagging her finger at Orin and grinning, "There now, Orin. You be good 'n don't munch on Alces or he won't be bringin' ya any more treats!"

After giving it some thought he suggested, "Well, I could ride with you if you like. What would I have to do? Ride on the horse with you, or walk beside the horse?"
He gave Orin a little push on the nose to keep the horse from taking a bite out of his neck fur and shook his head, "He needs to learn how to listen. She's right you know. No more treats if you keep trying to eat me!"
The horse just snorted and backed into his stall a bit to watch the other two, everyonce in a while glancing back at the tasty looking fur and now Muris' hair as well.

She giggled, "Oh, you don't have to ride Alucina with me..just have to ride at the same time as me. So if I fall off 'n get hurt you can help me out 'n all.."
She patted the horse's muzzle gently, "Not that I think I'd get really hurt with her. But she could be a lot more energetic than she seems."
She just didn't want to hit her head on accident and end up dying or something like that. It was probably not really going to be all that dangerous, but she knew Papa wouldn't like her going out by herself on a horse.

"That would work out well then. Since Orin needs to get some excersize...obviously." He looked at the horse that had begun inching his way up to the stall gate again, towards Alces and his fur.
"Would you be interested in riding now? Or had you intended to go some other time?" He asked curiously, and went to lean up against the gate again to give Orin a few pats. He seemed much more comfortable around horses now, eiter due to having gotten used to them because of Orin, or because he was now older.

Muris beamed, "Now would be just fine. I'll go ahead and tack up Alucina...do you need help with Orin? Or have you managed with tacking him up by yourself?"
She skittered towards the tack room, which wasn't far from their horses' stalls and started pulling out the necessary items, "I still haven't cleaned up all of the stuff..some of it's pretty dusty...but we have more than enough, really."
