It hadn't actually taken long. Freya and Kettil had so many discussions about whether or not they wanted kids, how many kids they wanted, how many kids they thought they could afford, how many kids they wanted despite that - it had gone on for years, really. But now, it wasn't really just talk anymore, was it? They had graduated. They lived together, they worked, and - Jack help her, her blood still boiled about it - they found themselves already married, a fact that had apparently been true for some time now.

Thackery.

But the more she'd thought about it, the more she realized there was nothing left to stop them from starting their family. They'd managed to achieve everything they hoped for, in such a small amount of time.. and when she brought the topic up to Kettil, it had been irrefutable.

It was time to go pick their first pumpkin.

That decision found the two of them at the pumpkin patch, after being carefully instructed on how to maneuver within, and exactly how to find their perfect pumpkin. It was out there, somewhere! Among the hundreds upon hundreds of pumpkins waiting to be picked.. theirs was out there.

They just had to find it!

Freya did not want all of the children. Freya wanted a scareling, and then later another, and so on, forever into infinity until they eventually had all of the children, sure. But today, she did not want to take home an entire pumpkin patch. Their first scareling was going to be a challenge, and she was prepared to meet it head on - with one. Kettil, however..

She felt like he was going to fly away. Her hand held tightly to his, to keep him from floating up like a balloon with all of the energy he was producing. His excitement fed into hers, but she was happy to be the sensible one, for once.

"Yeh don't knows if it will be a he, yet!" She reminded Hooter, snickering up at him as he listed all of the things he was going to teach their child. They had so many ideas..

But first, the choosing.

"What kind of pumpkin does yeh thinks will makes the best scareling? Tall? Fat? Round? Dark or light orange? Or - should.." Her voice came out as a whisper. "Should we smell them?"

"Ach, that is a very smart idea!" Of course! Picking out a pumpkin that looked like theirs, assured their Fear would be very comfortable in it. And perfect, just like they were! She remembered the one single picture that her mother had taken of -

Oh. Oh this wouldn't work at all.

"Nuu, we will has teh finds one that looked like yours. My pumpkin was, ach, yeh knows.." She made a hand visual rounding out - it almost looked like she was gesturing breasts. But she wasn't. "Twins."

Don't even think about it, Kettil.

"Was it fatter than it was taller, or was it tall and lean? And does yeh knows how big it was? Like.." She walked over to a pumpkin, and put her arms around it without actually touching it. "This big, or bigger?"

"Well I didn't says we should picks this one, I was just using it as an example!! Besides YEH LOOKS FUNNY." Freya giggled and hopped back up, holding her arms out to look for a pumpkin that was bigger than the one she'd measured. She looked like she was carrying something invisible, and found a pumpkin that looked bigger. Lowering down, it was clear that she wouldn't have been able to put her arms around a giant one she found, and dropped her arms to look up at Kettil.

"This one?" She leaned in and sniffed it.. it just wasn't doing it for her.

Freya let out a loud, annoying whine at the mere idea of having to go to another patch. "No, we can't gives up that easy, looks how many pumpkins are here! We has teh keeps looking.."

Freya's wings fluttered high up in the air, lifting into the air for better perspective.

"Keeps looking!!!"

Freya was two pumpkins away, inspecting a group from above. They all looked close.. like they would one day be a family.

But were they her family?

"Of course it will likes us, Hooter!" Freya cried out, so loudly the pumpkins jostled. She slammed both of her hands on her mouth, and then whispered, quietly, "Of course it will! We're amazing!"

There was a large group of pumpkins just in her range of vision, and she pointed over to them. "Checks those for any good ones Hooter, I will look at the ones teh the left."

Freya was trying to measure a pumpkin when Kettil cried out to her right, and she nearly fell from the sky in surprise. As it was, she smacked the pumpkin she was measuring and let out a horrifying screech, as if touching it was going to ruin it forever. The pumpkin keeper had told them not to touch them!!!

She waited, and watched, but it seemed like the pumpkin she'd smacked was fine. She only hoped she hadn't just ruined it forever... and she hoped she hadn't just given it any of her Fear. She didn't want surprise scarelings walking around that she didn't know about.

"Yeh sure?" She fluttered over to her side, landing softly on the ground nearby. Kettil was already bubbling over with happiness, and she couldn't deny that the moment she landed, she felt compelled to come closer. So she knelt on its opposite side, and leaned in-

"Oh." She'd never felt anything like it before. They'd told them that they would know, but.. she hadn't realized.. "Ohhh."

She reached a hand out, and placed it on the pumpkin. She wasn't afraid to touch this one.

Because it was theirs.

Her head snapped up and she grinned wildly at Kettil, tiny hiccups of giggles escaping her as she bounced in delight.
