His breathing was loud though no longer something akin to a task. It didn't HURT like it had before. His sight was returning, mobility regained. He could sit up now, drink food. Eat small soft things.

Ground meat was good. He'd never thought the taste of red meat could be as delicious as simple meat with a salt and pepper topping. Solid foods. Granted small, mash-able foods, but solids none the less.

Walking was still out, but his wheelchair was nice. It took a while to get in and out of it, nurse required, but it was nice, to be able to move around again.

Another night. And that night he'd chosen to wheel himself around the infirmary's quiet halls, enjoying the eerie yet human sound of his own breathing and the feelings of his muscles working to propel him along.

"Going somewhere?"

The voice came from somewhere behind Marcus, as Alistaire never could be satisfied with making a simple entrance. He came walking down the hallway of the infirmary, gloved hands tucked into the pockets of his dark slacks, a look of mild interest on his tanned face. He stopped a short distance away from Marcus and smiled, the corners of his lips quirking upwards.

"Hello, Mr. Hasan. Or should I say cousin, if what Ian tells me is right?"

"Yes." Marcus had heard Alistaire before he'd introduced himself. The echo of footsteps. The vibrating sounds of his own heartbeat in his eardrums- he was still sensitive. The world had him flinch, loud. Everyone always seemed so loud at first.

"Upstairs. Roof. Clear skies means moonlight." Marcus rasped, licking his lips, trying to keep his saliva glands working, keep his lips from drying out, cracking and bleeding. They were taking a bit longer to heal- Dis had been more focused on.. pressing matters than his mouth at the time.

"Yes. Cousin. Alistaire- hungry eyes." Marcus started to wheel himself around. to look at his cousin with his good side. "...Remind me of my weapon. Way you looked at them. Hungry."

He was acting strangely, this newfound cousin of his. Ian had described Marcus as being a very confident, well-adjusted hunter on the island; a man capable of handling things professionally, although with a bit of a stick up his a**, was also how Ian had described him.

This man in the wheelchair was none of those qualities, at least none that Alistaire could see straight off. This man was much more...curious.

"So," he said, making his way around Marcus to take ahold of the wheelchair, beginning to push him down the hall, towards the staircase. "Marcus Hasan. Do tell me a more about you, I'm curious as to your...adventures here on Deus before I came."

Marcus didn't stop Alistaire, nor did he say a word as he was directed to the stairwell. If it turned into a case of push the invalid down the stairs? Marcus would just have to be ready for that. Family after all, never meant kindness.

A lesson he'd know intimately well.

"So." Marcus repeated. Raspy and harder than normal. "Married. Survived apocalypse. Survived Conquest. Death. Now-" He hissed, scarred hand lifting as someone flicked a light on in their room on the right. The side with his bad eye.
"Now Famine."

He let himself be rolled around trying to keep his breathing steady and even. Less stress. Stay calm and dont push yourself were the 'doctor's orders'. "Second of batch to rank- Second to Hunter."

That was quite a bit of information to be had. Alistaire was enjoying this; the open way in which Marcus spoke of himself, the strange tenseness to his voice, which was hoarse and rough, unlike any of the times that Alistaire had heard him speak previously.

How very curious, he thought.

"Ah," said Alistaire. "Married. I see. I must meet your wife sometime."

He didn't understand the "conquest" or "famine" part, other than they were most likely biblical or historical references. Alistaire wheeled the chair towards the staircase, clearly lost in thought.

"You've lived quite a life here so far, haven't you," he said flatly. "All full of accomplishments and pride and appearances. How very...fortuitous for yourself to be in such a situation in the first place. I commend you on your obvious grasp of your situation."

Marcus wasn't sure if the trainee expected him to walk or, to just throw him down the stairs in an attempt to kill him. It wouldn't have been unheard of. Or unexpected- Marcus had his share of riffs and hated parties.

"She'd like you." Cass liked nearly everyone- and even then the exceptions hardly lasted long.

"Looks matter." His hand twitched on the armrest, wanting to grab it and break it. He knew he looked ******** up, yet still he'd yet to see a mirror, yet to see himself. "Foolish. Situation ******** up. Yet- alive. Will return to post." He was determined to do so. "............" Silence, he asked.

"What of you? Your life?"

He shrugged his shoulders, eyes flickering towards the sudden movement of Marcus' hand, though he didn't comment on it. Instead, Alistaire made a humming noise low in the back of his throat and straightened, folding his arms across his chest.

"Not much to tell, I'm afraid," he said easily, lightly. "I've lived a rather mundane life myself. Attended law school, studied a lot, did some things I probably shouldn't have."

The smile on his face didn't quite reach his eyes.

"You know. The usual."
