These 'ruins' are perhaps the most different to any of the others related to it. Here, a giant, hollow stump of what used to be a giant tree, though smaller than the now destroyed World Tree of Shard. Life is still grand around these ruins, and all that signifies these are indeed ruins and just not another destroyed tree is what lies within. Inside the floor is paved, though now worn down, stone. There is also a stone spiral staircase inside the root that swirls around the outside of the trunk, and around this staircase, within this spiral, are stone rooms, though no overgrown, and commonly home to birds. In the centre of the floor of the giant hollow trunk is a circular bowl-like decline. Here, there is a continuous fount of what has come to be diagnosed as Aether, similar to the others, here it is the colour of a golden-yellow. Inscriptions around the doorway signify these ruins are of or two 'Duobus'.

°‘¨___________❈_________¨‘° Maverly Asche _____________________ _______________________________________ ~ "There's no room for wilting flowers here." It starts with the unexpected loss of something dear... The warmth that comforted and cradled just disappears. And in its place there's nothing - just an endless empty hole. The path to isolation is littered with the dreams that lay destroyed. So what's the problem, what's keeping me. From moving forward, it's hard to see. I should be free now... I should be fine. But the life I fought for still isn't mine.
Maverly and Ivan had set out together from the Academy later in the evening. By now it had been dark for a couple of hours and the temperature had dropped so much that she could see her own breath in front of her. Ordinarily, the trip down to the middle of Veridium would take a couple days walking, but Alexis was able to tear open a portal only about an hour away. She was one of the few people in Occulas that could open a portal at whim, and seemingly with little effort. Maverly had her theories as to how she had so much power - but she chose not to question the blonde on it. Now she and Ivan were walking over the rolling hills of Viridium, the lush green realm that held within it the elven lands, the neutral territories, and the forest of Kuj'anast. Maverly could see the Aerie Peaks ahead, and as she peered down its spine towards the right, she knew that somewhere beyond that horizon was Asmodius. They had been walking for some time time and for the most Part Maverly made little to no conversation with Ivan. Emphasizing that she must focus on their mission. She finished her decent down one hill, and was now beginning to ascend the next as she passed a rough boulder, damp to the touch as she ran her hand across it. "This land is filled with so much history... anything could be causing the famine and decay - even if it is magical" Maverly mused, allowing the crisp cold air to brush over her cheeks. She filled her lungs, allowing her chest to chill. It may be cold, but it kept her alert.
Time for you to learn, it's my turn. I won't be held down any longer. I've waited all my life and finally it's here. Rise and take flight, darling - let's soar high. For the first time in forever I'm alive, don't you forget that. Cruel and wicked life, how it hurts me deep inside. Cold and vicious life, how I wish to make it right.

Ivan Baron
The cold temperature of the night threatened to freeze his cheeks and ears, but luckily he had a black scarf with pumpkins all over it that Lumina had knitted for him. Maverly and him had traveled to the Veridium within an hour thanks to the portal Alexis had opened for them. She was the only person that was magically strong enough to create portals at will without being drained of energy. The land within the Elven land was lush and green housing neutral territories and the forest of Kuj' anast with the Aeries Peaks ahead. Beyond them was Asmodius, a place he had rare explored but would make the trip someday. As they descended down a hill, neither of them had conversed for a while. Ivan wanted to respect Maverly's request of concentration, and he was secretly preparing himself for battle as he loaded up his pipe with colored leaves. Passing a rough bolder, Maverly swiped her fingers across it saying how the history of the land was rich and that anything, even magically, could be causing the decay and famine. Ivan spoke up lightly trying his best not to irk her in anyway, "I'm no expert on magic, but something definitely is stirring amongst the land. The silence is deafening." His assassin skills were kicking in as his eyes narrowed keeping a visual over anything and everything he could see. He even pulled down his scarf from his ears just so he could listen for any subtle moments.

The path to isolation is littered with the dreams that lay destroyed. So what's the problem, what's keeping me. From moving forward, it's hard to see. I should be free now... I should be fine. But the life I fought for still isn't mine.
Ivan was right, the silence was deafening. Maverly felt it in her bones, a kind of supernatural chill. "We should be careful" Maverly replied, taking wide steps up the remainder of the hill where she could finally see the top of Duobus peaking over ahead. As the two of them neared the top, a clearing of level land could be seen dead ahead. Beneath them, and some way further was the gigantic tree stump known as Duobus. It was the remnants of a world tree destroyed before written history of Occulas began. It was once a home of the Aether, lost to time. Maverly took in the breath-taking view, allowing it to rest deep within her mind. She didn't want to forget it. "I've never actually been here before" Maverly admitted quietly, feeling an almost gravitational pull to the tree's remains. She felt... an aching sensation in her heart. She couldn't help but think about those that once lived here, and what a horrid disaster must have caused the tree to die. It was then in that moment that Ivan noticed movement and Maverly ducked down to her knee. Her keen eyes quickly narrowed down on it after Ivan pointed it out. There were figures in the distance, moving near the entrance to the ruins. Together they decided to make their way down as quietly as possible.
Maverly had several questions. Who else could be here so late at night, and who else knew about the ailment of the wildlife here? Sure, the birds had spread to a few nearby villages... but who regularly traverses this place? It is mostly a forgotten ruin. As they approached, they saw no further movement from anyone or anything. Maverly looked at Ivan with a little bewilderment. She then let him lead the way within whilst she kept watch behind them.
Within, they found themselves inside the colossal tree. It was big enough to hold an entire village, tall enough to house a skyscraper. And to think this was just the stump. Silence filled the air as she looked around, taking in the stars above them. Just as she had read, the font of golden light could be seen at the centre of the space. There was a dip in the floor lead to it. The light had a weight to it, as if a little fluid. It attempted to rise like a fountain, but would collapse under its own weight. "There's nothing here..." Maverly whispered in disbelief, still looking around them. She could see the large slopes coiling up against the trunk's inner wall, creating a means of traversing the upper levels. She could see carved out, ancient rooms in the walls, ruins of empty structures ground from the tree itself dotted around, empty, filled with blackness. She looked down at the font, noticing its glimmer occasionally faltering. "That.... wasn't in the books" she said, "look". She knelt down closer towards the font of aether, the very essence of the people of the same name in Other Earth. As they watched, it looked as though a stream of it's light was sucked out of existence before the rest of the essence reignited it's light. However, Ivan's keen eyes had noticed something else. Teeny... tiny... eyes. Emerging from the darkness of the ruins, seemingly appearing above them, around them, near and far. Tiny specks of cold-blue light. Like pin-pricks gazing at them from the voids. It took Ivan a few moments to finally grab her attention. And when she stood up she felt a chill run through her body. "What... is... that" she slowly asked, slowly grabbing her riding crop. She could feel her heart beginning to race as the prospect of the unknown began to test her courage. Her half-elven eyes then watched as a skeletal beak appeared within the twilight from above as a large avian stepped forwards. It looked like a heron. She then had the horrifying feeling that all the eyes she saw... were undead. Unfortunately she was proven correct, but oh how she couldn't have been more wrong about what kind. She watched as the skeleton bird limped forwards, but it was attached to something else. These weren't just reanimations, they were golems. Creatures of varying sizes, all stitched together with unseen magic. Some tall, some wide, some barely able to crawl, some others apparently able to fly. As she was taking in the sight all around them a sudden screeching came from immediately behind herself and Ivan. A tall avian creature let loose a terrifying howl into their ears, causing Maverly to jump forwards out of her skin and clasp at her eyes. This thing stood with a hunch-back and scythe made from a giant beak. It's head was made of an amalgamation of beaks and bird-skulls. It had wings of sinew and talons, and each and every skull on it's reanimated corpse had beady specks of blue light in their black sockets. Without a single thought, she let out a sunset missile to throw it back a few yards. It was time to fight.

Ivan Baron
Marverly insisted they be wary of their surrounds which Ivan had been since they arrived sensing the ominous atmosphere. Nodding, they made their finally trek of the hill and beyond lay an open field where the decaying stump sat. Duobus was once proclaimed as the World Tree of Occulas housing the Aether, but sadly the destruction of history had taken its toll. Marverly seemed mystified by the stump, and considering its origins fantasying out of the tree's past would bewilder anyone. If time hadn't have been so cruel, perhaps the tree could have thrived for many generations to come. Suddenly, moment of a lumbering figure caught Ivan's eye and he pointed it out to Maverly causing them to both duck. Hopefully, the moving mass didn't see them as it made its way to the entrance of the ruins. Together, they inched cautiously towards the stump in order to not arouse suspicion from anything else close by. If Ivan could read minds, he'd be surprised that him and Maverly were theorizing the same conjecture. Why would someone be out here so late at night and for what purpose? The dead bird epidemic hadn't of spread that far so finding anyone to snoop around for information would be highly unlikely. As the neared the opening, Maverly allowed Ivan to lead the way to which he did so gladly. The last thing he wanted was for her to get hurt on his watch.
The inside of the tree was something to behold because it could house an entire city! The internal structure had some innovated engineering seeing how large sloping coils reached up to the upper floors. The open stump frame a jagged circle of the stars above them making one thing in the sad, empty place beautiful. At the center of the stump the floor dipped and the font of golden light of the Aether streamed. It moved as if it were made of water rising like a fountain before pooling under its own weight. Maverly whispered about the desolation of this place which had him on edge. It was completely empty, which it shouldn't be. 'Where the hell are all the bird caresses!?', he thought. Suddenly, Maverly pulled him over to the font of Aether and they discovered that a stream of light was being sucked away before it regained its essence back. Beyond that mystery, something else more sinister capture Ivan attention because staring back at him were two icy blue beady eyes. Pin-pricks of more blue eyes popped into existence causing him to nudge Maverly urgently in order to see it. Raising slowly, Maverly grabbed for her riding crop while Ivan place the pipe in his mouth and aimed his already loaded gun. "Looks like they found us. Dead birds.....resurrected." He no longer needed to speculate knowing it was abundantly clear as to what the blue dots were.
A skeletal beak emerged from the darkness and the creature attached to it looked like a heron terrifying limbering towards them. What he couldn't see was the string of magic binding them all together which classified them as golems and not zombies. More birds appeared, ones of various shapes and sizes and some able to fly while others crawled. They were ambushed by a screech behind them revealing a large and tall aviary. It beak was shaped like a scythe and its head was formed by an amalgamation of bird skulls. Each induvial skull had its own set of blue eyes. It had a hunched back with wings made of sinew and razor sharp talons. It resembled a crane in stature but before it could attack Maverly launched a sunset missile at it throwing it back a few yards. Without a second though, Ivan blew out smoke to confuse any of birds ready to launch towards them. He immediately created illusions of him and Maverly fighting on them other side of them to lure the birds to that small. The smaller ones that could flight honed in on the illusions allowing him to shoot them down once they got close. What ever was left of their corpses liquified from the acid bullets leaving bubbling green puddles. "Maverly, create a barrier around us." He said rather calmly as he moved closer to her. "I don't know if they can be killed, maybe naturized at best. We need a plan. Got any ideas?" Ivan could see the crane rustling about trying to regain its footing once more. Their challenge wasn't the small fries, but the large boss ahead of them.
