Romano stuck his paws into the moist sand before him. It was an odd type of dirt, unlike anything he encountered in the mountains where he lived. Oh wait, he rose his head. His ears flicked forward to listen to the cawing of a bird off in the distance before he turned his attention back to the waves that were swallowing up his toes. That wasn’t entirely true, sometimes it rained and the dirt turned into a dark and pasty mud. But it wasn’t like sand, when sand dried it gradually fell off your pelt whereas mud would clump into bits and pieces before it dropped to the ground. Romano was awestruck, curious with the new substance he had only heard of and not actually had the pleasure of touching before. Waves from the ocean tide inched closer and tickled his paw pads as he wiggled his toes in the sand. He almost looked the sight of a cub, frolicking about carelessly. Had it not been for him staying in the exact same spot this entire time he might have been mistaken for some happy, bouncy, upbeat fool.

Waves crashed against her mint feet cooling her down to a drop. She looked out at the sea of water. The burning sand rubbing against the pads of her feet and were over taken by water every other second. Her eyes were drawn to the blazing sun. A smile creep up on her face. Euanthe stood their content with being alone. Sometimes it was nice to just enjoy the nature around one with no distractions. She sensed someone coming near her. She turned noticing a beautiful leopard. He just stood there. He looked down at the sand the whole time. It seemed as if he was a small innocent child. It gave Euanthe an overwhelming feeling of happiness. It let her know that people could still hang on to their inner child. She felt as if hers had been lost forever. She approached him. Their eyes meet and she smiled. ”Hello.”

Romano was surprised by the approach of a hyena. Had she been even slightly darker furred he would have mistaken her for seaweed. Instead her pelt favored the color of mint and he felt the primitive hunting desire to bite into that fur and see if it tasted like mint as well. But Romano shook the thought away and back into the deepest depths of his mind and soul. No need to be violent, the canine was being friendly. If that was the case he must not have wandered into her territory or a pack territory. Sniffing the light salty air he absorbed the scents around him and picked out the minty hyena amongst them. But no others, well, no others that were fresh anyways. This confirmed to him that it was safe enough to converse with her. For now. Until he grew bored of her and moved on.

"Afternoon." He greeted her with a head bob, turning to face her and no longer expose his body to being attacked. What did this hyena want?

Her grin grew when he greeted her back. ”Isn’t it so beautiful here?” She turned looking at the water. She was happy to meet someone who enjoyed scenery such as her, but she wasn’t sure if he did or not. ”I’ve always really liked water so why are you here?” It just came to her know that you don’t release how alone you actually are in till you talk to someone. It surprised her to even be able to hear her own voice. She always would frequently lose her voice due to an unknown reason. At times she would feel like a mute. She would feel unapproachable when it happened. She always felt as if she was trapped away. Euanthe felt that if she could have a friend to understand it that maybe she would be different. That maybe she would be friendlier. But that would be impossible… She always felt lost in her mind unable to communicate her feelings when she lost her voice. She pleaded that it did not happen now. It was why she always tried to talk as much as she could because she was afraid when it would disappear. Most people would say that she just talked a lot but it was more then that. It was her grabbing on to hope.

Found it!

Romano paused to consider why he was here.

He was near the beach for the experience of it. He wanted to understand just what, as the hyena put it so nicely, why it was "so beautiful". What made people be drawn to the water in the first place? Wasn't it filled with icky little creatures and wretched monsters that swam through it.

On that topic he stared briefly at Eua in an attempt to decide whether or not she was a sea monster herself. Truth have it Romano knew little about canines of the world he lived in and found himself scarcely in their presence. To him it was perfectly plausible that Eua had crawled out of the ocean (as she seemingly had popping up out of nowhere in his eyes). She could be a monster, could being the key word. He withdrew the thoughts of her being a creature of myth and focused primarily on answering her delayed question. "Never been. Trying something new." His answer was short, affirmative and to the point.

Euanthe looked at the man and understood him. Sometimes it was nice to try something new, but sometimes fear wouldn’t allow you to. Euanthe tried to be fearless with no worries. Being fearless was something hard to do though. She worried that one day all that fear would engulf her and she would be gone. If that ever happened would her saviour even be able to find her?

Why did she love the water so much? Not even she knew. Maybe it was the fact of how free it seemed. The water did what even it wanted it never hesitated it just flew. She wanted to be like the water at least as free as she thought it was. She reminded herself that even the water had monsters lurking beneath it, just like she did.

Her monsters were trapped inside her mind taunting her at every step she made. She wanted to scare them away but she was too afraid. That’s why she wanted no she needed someone to help her do it. Every creature she saw she always thought to herself ‘Maybe this is the one’ When even she said that though it seemed to never be true.

She looked up at the leopard once again and knew that it wouldn’t be him either. She knew that he would never be able to save her. She had this feeling that when she met the creature that would save her she would know. That creature would make her feel warm and change her outlook on life; she just knew it. ”I always like to try new things.” She always wanted to try something new in hopes of finding her hero.

"Hmm." He replied in response. "I'm the opposite. I'm fine with the ways things are." Romano preferred order, discipline and constant. If something was out of order, wild and inconsistent and unpredictable he was unlikely to engage in such behaviour.

It just wasn't him. He wasn't scared of new things he just felt no satisfaction from trying them. So in a nutshell he really didn't understand Eua. Her desire for trying the new, seeing what is unique. It never fit him quite as well. He couldn't grasp a hold on the idea. "The sea water is interesting." He admitted however. "It's... Different. Good different." He pondered if there was such a thing, and came to the happy conclusion that there must be. Or else he wouldn't enjoy the ocean and the sand as much as he was currently.

This leopard seemed to be the exact opposite of her. She knew there were creatures like that though; the ones that were afraid of change. Euanthe never understood them though. She didn’t know why change was such a thing to be afraid of. She always liked it when she did new things it gave her a refreshing feeling. He seemed like an animal that she would never begin to understand.

To her he seemed like someone who rarely did anything different. She didn’t get how anyone could do that. She didn’t understand since it seemed like such a pain having to do the same thing over and over again. She never wanted to be trapped like he seemed. She always wanted to be free. She was thinking that maybe that was why she was so lonely because no one else wanted to be free like her, but that seemed almost impossible.

”That’s good you like it.” She was thankful that he liked the water. If he didn’t there wouldn’t be any point in talking to him. When she first saw him she thought that he seemed like a child with no worries. After she talked to him she learned that he acted almost as if he was trapped inside a cage. If she had to use the best way to describe him it would be that he seemed lonely. He seemed lonely just like she is. That was the reason she knew he wouldn’t be good to spend time around. When two lonely souls spend time together their sorrow only increases. ”What are you looking for?”

"Not sure." Romano admitted. "Fate, I suppose." Ew. Sounded so cheesy when he said it. He wasn't even sure why he said it when it mattered not to him why or how he got here, just that he was.

It then struck him that the hyena was beginning to becoming a nuisance. With her fantasy talk of searching for theoretical things and similar nonsense. It confused him and he wasn't interesting in hearing more about it. She was too social and he was just not. Leaving was sounding like a nice little option right about now.

"I guess I'll see you around." He said to Eua. On the off chance she was a sea monster he was making a point not enrage her by walking without saying a word. That was just how he treated most people, leaving the conversation without a problem. But if he did that to a sea-beast? Well, Romano wasn't quite sure how it would end for him.

So he decided to leave, turning and walking down the expansion of the beach. He was still most curious about sand, but walked close enough to the grassy hills that it wasn't difficult to move. "Goodbye!"

Euanthe watched as the un social creature walked away. It almost seemed as though he was trying to escape from the conversation. She was hoping that he would be able to find that fate he was looking for. She wasn’t quite sure why she asked that question. It might have been since she had thought that everyone was looking for something. Or maybe it was because she was the one looking for something.

He wasn’t too far yet if she said anything he would still be able to hear her. At that moment she remembered that she had not told him her name. He hadn’t told her his name either. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to end the conversation with no regards to who the other was. If they left it like that they would forever be strangers.

”Wait.” She said in hopes of stopping him. ”What is your name?” She looked to him in hopes of response. Before he could say anything she answered her own question. ”Mine is Euanthe.”

Romano paused for a single moment as the flicker of the word "wait" made him stop. He hadn't even considered the fact that he never knew her name, it was a detail that he hadn't taken into consideration as being worthy of knowing.

Though, he supposed others did exchange names upon meeting somebody for the first time. "Euanthe, eh? That's a nice name." He had never heard such a name before, it rung well off his tongue. A long name, but not as long as some of the common tongue words he knew. It was likeable, but not dislikable either. Kind of like it's owner and how Romano felt on the manner.

His name? That was something he didn't trust to give away to just anybody. But, as he began walking he felt the need to return the greeting. Perhaps they would meet again, and how was he to address her then?

"My name." He said, looking over his shoulder in order to ensure the hyena heard him properly. "Is Romano. It's been a pleasure, Euanthe." At that, he finally took his leave.
