Ancient Earth: The Known Facts

The world you see before you is filled with so much wonder, and mystery, and beings beyond your very imagination. Complex cities scrape the sky with their towers and others shift the ground beneath them to make stretching foundations. You can travel between each major city, go to towns, experience new heights on great Zeppelins or go to New Coventry City and experience the party of a life time. But what came before all of this? What was on the grass, beneath the skies and lurking upon Magic Earth for almost a millennium before the Great Voyage, when Asmodius the 2nd ordered all Magic people to relocate in the world you know today?

Well, since then ruins have been uncovered, and skeletons of old mammals and creatures have been dug up. The Scientists of Entei have worked hard for decades, and specialists of Castayu Del'yir have leant there hand in trying to uncover what the remains have to tell. The ruins, some of which are minor, and show only some signs of a previous civilisation, others much larger, and showing significant sighs of a much greater past. Let's not forget, that the Kujan's of Kuj'anast, the great and vibrant city that fell during the Medieval period by the Circle's decisive hand, were here before the Great Voyage. Old articles made by the Kujan's that had made a life on Magic Earth were even lucky enough to come into contact to some of the beings. It's important to note, the Archon Sky City of Unum is the only 'ruins' found that are not destroyed or lost to nature, and a lot of observations are compared to this.

The civilisation that was described by the past scholars mention only the odd, rare humanoid being. We know that from the remains we see today and the books and scrolls left behind in the Library of Kuj'anast that there were fabled beings, rumoured as the Aether. These are to hold responsible for the Archon ruins we've seen today, all six of them. Unfortunately, the only written records of these sound fairly fabled, more like fiction, only seen on rare occasions and the only description, which consists of one single article, says the Aether were like us, but would glow and fade into nothingness. Running through meadows before just... become a wisp of itself and vanishing with the air. Whatever was here before us, the Archon ruins were indeed their major cities and their homes. The Archons, that are often written about in the ruins are presumably a person who was in charge, like a lord, a king, or so on. This is going by the Greek meaning of the word, for all we know is these Archons could be objects, perhaps even the fonts of 'Aether' that is often found in the ruins. There is, however, one more thing. The remains of Dragonend are perhaps some of the greatest fossils known to Magic Earth that date from Ancient Earth... the remains of dragons. It was thought to have been the resting place of many dragons that were to die, and the remains come in all forms and sizes. Young and old... slim and large.

So what existed alongside the civilisation known as the Aether? Remains point towards animals like ours today, but with far more vague and odd skeletons and purposes. A large sum of these can be put into a group named the Verdant. This is another name often found repeated in Archon ruins and must have lived alongside the Aether, but times between the two were rough. We're looking at creatures with more than one head, extra legs, giant insects and big, muscle based creatures. Though some creatures that are estimated to be more beautiful, do not fall into the Verdant category, but have also died out. From what has been deciphered, we understand that the Verdant lived in the wilderness, where the Archon ruins never reached. The Aether depict themselves fending these Verdant forces off daily, controlling them and keeping boundaries with great and powerful beasts that ruled the skies - dragons.

The theory is that there was a point during Ancient Earth where the numbers of the Verdant bolstered, quickly - archaeological records explain this. The remains are denser between 1000 - 900 BC, shortly before that of the Burning Invasion and the formation of the Order of Injustira. This is when it seems the Aether fell and became disused, carbon dating on the etchings, and magical analysis of enchantments left behind supporting this date range. For what reason the Verdant suddenly became more powerful no one can tell, but some remains do show major signs of decay of the bones before the Verdant eventually died. Some suggest diseases might have acted like steroids or a strength increaser, but side affects ate away at them - other evidence suggests that the verdant were dying for a very long time during this time too, but none of it makes sense as to how or why they survived and managed to over throw the Aether and their dragons. However no known diseases exist in Magic Earth. This will explain why those that came to Magic Earth to defend against the burning Invasion didn't see many examples of the living Verdant or Aether. Only a few examples can be found dating after the Burning Invasion, leading to the articles written by Kujans. But Not long before the Great Voyage, there is no evidence whatsoever. As for the dragons, they were free beasts, only a couple were seen when the first men crossed the border between worlds and came to call Occulas home under the reign of the first king of Occulas, Asmodius Leonheart II. The last of them is told in legend to have became what is now called Dragon-(to be named...)

Otherearth: Discovery!

Following the defeat of Lucifial, the world was given a fresh breath of life, a golden warmth that covered the world in the absence of the darkness. Once again, peace was at hand. However, flames burned the remnants of Lucifial to ashes, flames purified the tainted lands of Zakernand and the source came from great flapping wings, and for some days on an unknown Dragon swept through the skies of Occulas. The Guildeam was notified immediately, and they took no time in getting involved to make sure this wasn't another threat to the Lands of Occulas. The Circle were put in charge of investigating the lone Dragon that circled the skies above The Crossing, they questioned the Dragons of the Crossing but learned only a little. But eventually the lone dragon, twice the size of either of the two dragons of the Crossing, landed. Much to their surprise the dragon had a rider, a man who's skin shimmered , who's eyes told a lot more than he could ever speak.

In time, the Circle learned that the man is of a race called the Aether, and the land he comes from is known as Otherearth. Their unseen lands came under threat from Lucifial's darkness, and so he was sent to not only search for the source on the mainland, but to request aid against the Aether's own enemies. Eventually, it was agreed that the Aether would meet with the High Court.

In the walls of a different, secret dimension, the High Court sat with the being. It was divulged that his name is Unh'atar, and he comes from the city of Aetherpolis as a representative of his people. The High Court wasn't too pleased to hear that Aether scouts have been keeping on eye on Occulas for some time since the beginnings of Lucifial's rain of darkness, and the fact that this being breathed dragonfire amongst Zakernand was worrying too - the only leader who didn't seem too worried was The Oracle himself, and he wasn't even a member of the High Court. Unh'atar explain that Otherearth has been home to many races, all of them inf act originating from Occulas. Therians, Star Elves and even Orcs have lived on the lands with the Aether for almost two thousand years, and during all this time have been fighting against the Verdant, a force so strong in numbers that it is difficult to destroy permanently, and may only be controlled.

It is agreed that an alliance be made between Otherearth and Occulas, the Guildeam will visit Aetherpolis and represent Occulas as a notion of goodwill. But ultimately, Occulas will aid Aetherpolis in it's defence against the Verdant. And in exchange, understand of how Occulas came to be will be learned, for great Aether whom once knew those that fell in Occulas and left behind their ruins still live in Otherearth. These are Wu, Ba, and Liu, great Aether Archons, the first of the Aether and last of the 9 that existed.

Many weeks on, trade routes have been established, Zepellins fly across the unknown oceans with the Aether's guidance, academies sent students for training and aid, Elites adventure for prestige, experience and honour... and much much more.

The Aether

The Aether were the first race to dominate Magic Earth upon the dawn of it's creation. Though after centuries of fighting off their natural-born enemies, the Verdant, and an end to the war between them, the remnants of a once beautiful and splendid culture now remains in Otherearth. The Aether can only be described as ethereal beings who can either look human or see-through, appearing to be made of a magical substance, tinted by the colour of their Archon.

The Aether are ruled by the Archons, who were born when the Occulanium was used by the Eternal to create Magic Earth, and are supremely more powerful than the other Aether. With their fonts of power at their thrones, they created more Aether in the shape of themselves. There are 6 thrones in the known Magic Earth, 3 in Occulas, 1 in the Land of Crows, 1 in Zakernand and another in Sheol. There are 3 more here, in Otherearth, which have not fallen to ruin and their respective Archon's still live. The 9 Archons that have each created their own throne in Magic Earth use the fonts of magical Aether and turn the mysterious aura into living beings. Though each font can only be used by the Archon that tapped it.

The 9 Archons exist as follows:
>Unum: (Depicted to the right) He favoured Might and Valour - he thought only the best and most unique was deserving.
>Duobus: She favoured Growth and Tradition - using nature to her will and keeping life true to it's heart.
>Tribus: He favoured Chivalry and Manipulation - achieving moral standards to keep order but break the mind of others.
>Quatuor: He favoured Creation and Destruction - knowing that every great thing may one day need a replacement.
>Wu: She favours Magic and Perception - augmenting what she can to achieve.
>Liu: She favours Beauty and Light - realising that nothing can always be hidden.
>Septem: He favoured Life and Resourcefulness - believing all things had a purpose.
>Ba: He favours Tact and Stamina - using carefully thought out plans to outlast his enemies.
>Novem: He favoured Secrecy and studying Death - acquiring hidden knowledge to outsmart.

However, only Liu, Wu and Ba remain. Wu's throne is her beloved Grove, where magic roams free and the perception of the world is changed. Her people are very skilled users of magic, and her grounds are filled with her tamed Draconyphs. Liu's Promenade is crafted with beauty, and light shines over all corners of her realm, her people disgrace what would cause destruction to the world. And Ba resides in his Acropolis, baring the only true tactical army beneath the cliffs of his realm, hardened warriors ready to defend Otherearth from the Vardant.

The Verdant

The Verdant were born just as the Aether Archons were, however from where they were born is very different. When Magic Earth was created, the Verdant began as simple organisms in the wilds of Occulas. Over time though, they became more ravenous, primal instincts of beasts evolving and their intelligence growing. The Verdant can range from gnawing critters to monstrous abominations, some fly with grisly talons and shrieks, others swim through the ground.

The Verdant were the arch nemesis of the Ather, and for some time both sides were at a stalemate. The Verdant came from everywhere, where ever nature existed and lived on they were break away from the trees or crawl from the grounds and take flight, sometimes they were even devour less devastating mammals and creatures, onto to become a parasite in their body and use it for their own means. They continued to fight the Aether, trying to reclaim what land was perhaps their's, and when Liu, Wu and Ba left, the Verdant began to take the upper hand.

Then Quatuor diminished half of the Verdant with all his destruction in the area now known as Albanoch. A once hospitable land now sundered and covered in scorching sands and dunes. For a time, it would seem the Aether had one, until a mysterious being, unlike the Aether descended from the north and gave a renewed, unholy life to the Verdant. The Aether were then given a new threat, posed with a new question. How to kill what is already dead. Soon enough the Verdant, nature's horrific, perhaps even rejected army was given a new purpose and began to overthrow the Aether with their new leader. And then, after many more years... both races perished, mysteriously. Leading to the history that began to evolve that we understand today, when the elves first arrived at Kuj'anast, when the other races took hold on Magic Earth and when the Great Voyage took place, leaving all the Ancient Earth history... a mystery.
