"So, the first thing you should do," America started suddenly after cornering Rep on afternoon with vendor catalogs for various bar snack items and candy dispensers. "Is make yourself a list of the things you know your guys like. Romance isn't just flowers and candy, especially if they don't even like either of those. Or if they only like certain kinds. But either way, it's important to know their favourite things."

She flipped the catalog over to a tabbed page labeled deese nuts, "These are a good deal, but you'll want to get a sample to check out the freshness and quality. Don't worry, I already ordered some samples, I'll pick them up on my next leave day. Then," her tone shifted again, "you need to make a second list, and that's about like, your special places and moments. How did you first meet? Where did you first kiss? Are there any significant foods involved? Or a movie that has special meaning?"

America handed him a folder with what appeared to be worksheets on it, "Don't fret about remembering it all, I made these up for you to fill out. Don't flip out, it helps to organize your thoughts. Because you're hella romantic," the girl pointed aggressively at him, "you're just s**t at turning that potential into romance. It's all in there," she pointed at his head, "and now is the time to pick out the things you know an appreciate about your honeys. Big sweeping everything's are great an' all, but it's remembering and acting on the little things that's ******** sweet as hell."

Rep wasn't sure what to do when he found himself cornered. Without a run up to get into a real bristling and defensive rage, he was left without even a single coping mechanism. It didn't help that scattered in the midst of the terrifying talk of romance was a lot of pertinent comments on the bar.

A list, seemed to be the initial consensus, a list of what the guys liked, someone else had told him this before and it had upset him as much then as it did now, because he had struggled to list anything at that time, and felt like he would still struggle to manage it. And if he didn't figure it out, they'd be upset with him. And both of them were so different, he knew what movie Harrison liked, his tastes he wore on his sleeve. Jordan not so much, Jordan was like the mazes he drew out, tough to find the center of. He enjoyed books and intellectual pursuits and Rep was simply without the tools to dissect either.

He couldn't show weakness in front of America, worried that in a fit of overbearing criticism she might inform him that he was weak as well as romantic.

"I don't feel ******** romantic." he said gruffly, looking away. "I don't think I have any potential at all. I think you have the wrong guy." He opened the folder and raised a brow at the worksheets. There was a dizzying, worrying feeling that he might struggle to fill them in and it was almost unbearable. He closed it and covered his fear over - the way he always did - with defiance.

"I never did any homework in my life, what makes you think I'll start now."

Rolling her eyes, America brought out another catalog, this one for bulk candies. "Listen buck-o, of the two of us, I'm the one who actually knows this s**t, so drop the Doubting Debbie attitude." Sge batted his arm with the magzine before handing that over too. "I marked out the good stuff that's not already in the dorm vends, but there's probably some weird Scottish s**t you'll want."

The homework comment got him some raised eyebrows, "Because your boys are worth the effort. If you don't know some of the answers just ask them straight out. Just showing that kind of interest is nice, it'll let them know that you're trying for them." America grinned as she continued, "Maybe they'll decide to start romancing you in turn, now wouldn't that be cute as ******** way she figured it, the Scotland sandwich had probably skipped a few steps in their relationship. Might even be why this wedding was such a ******** hurdle. It'd be good for them to figure out some of the basics outside whatever had brought and held them together so far.

"Aye, I do want weird Scottish s**t. It's a sad ******** fact that American chocolate is really shitty, and bars need decent quality snacks. But a lot of this stuff looks A plus." he tried to focus on the business side of things, because the side of things dealing with romanticism and grand gestures of love was making him completely ******** freak out.

But he was also Rep, and avoiding questions or making smartass retorts was almost impossible for him to do.

"I think it'd be kind of gay." he hazarded, regarding him finding himself the subject of romancing. "And I dunno about asking them either, that like, seems like the easy way out. It devalues like, knowing the thing. If I find out their favourite movies or whatever I want it to be because I understood them well enough to guess. Asking them is like... I dunno its like cheating."

He frowned and shook his head. "Anyone can ask someone to fill in a questionnaire thing. Isn't it more romantic to like, know them well enough to fill it in for them?"

"Honey, you are gay, it's up to you if you want to be good-gay or unappreciative jerk-gay," America commented kindly. Pulling a couple Sugar Daddy suckers out of a binder she wordlessly handed one to him and then unwrapped her own. It may be seen as giving him a sample of potential goods, except the girl always seemed to keep candy and chocolates on hand if she was going to be around Rep for any amount of time.

"No it's not cheating, that's just your ******** ego whining. Guessing is half-assed and arrogant as ********. If you don't know for sure, the thoughtful thing to do is ask, because this isn't about you." She jabbed her sucker aggressively at him before putting it in her mouth with a judgmental look.

Rep made a face at the reminder he was gay and was about to complain that he wasn't really gay but bisexual and that was completely different when he was faced with a lollipop and was immediately both derailed and placated. He got to unwrapping it immediately, still looking slightly grumpy while he did.

"It's about my pride, its about me not getting left by them. I'm meant to know this stuff years into a relationship, asking is just showing how much I don't ******** know." he gave the lollipop a long thoughtful and rather suggestive lick. "I'm just no that romantic, I figured they knew it."

"Scotland, if your pride is what you worry about at the idea of getting left by them, you have a ******** more issues than I can be bothered with, so let's limit it to: making your men feel appreciated is more important than you looking stupid. Now I know you said fryer later, but let's be real: if you're naming a bar The Red Bull you better be serving some ******** wings. Here's some fryers that can take a fair amount of use but aren't hella pricey. The nice thing about wings is that you can fry them up and then make the sauces separate, so there's a bunch of different flavours, but don't have to worry about separate batches. I know great ******** sauce recipes, too. I'll swing some around next week for you to taste test."

America paused and then relented slightly, "You can always have someone else ask them the questions, you know." There was an unspoken if you're gonna be a p***y about it in her tone.

Rep gave America an irritable glare for her comment about his pride. She didn't understand how important pride was clearly, but rather than respond to this with a statement of how important said pride actually was, he addressed the fryer instead. "I'd be awright with a fryer, as long as it's like cheap but works."

He did freeze as she mentioned getting other people to ask the questions. "I'm ******** capable of asking questions ok. I'm no ******** Melvin but I can do it." Though it admittedly was tempting to have her ask the questions instead, at least until he remembered how well anyone asking Harrison personal questions ever went down.

"It'll be a good one, sturdy and capable of good sized batches, but without any gadgets or frills," America nodded, as if that was what he'd said in the first place. "And in the mornings we can use it to make donuts. Bet you'd make bank off the Life nerds if you could offer fresh donuts."

She gave him a beatific smile as he agreed to do the sensible thing, "Yeah, plus this information's for you, and you're a bit greedy in the love department, aren't ya? This way you'll be able to keep those important bits of lovey-dovey information all for yourself."

"You are a ******** genius." he said, and he meant it. "Could do donuts and cheap coffee in the morning. Cheap but no as s**t as the cafeteria swill. I'm sure Jordan'd be on board to help with that s**t. Could make this place invaluable." Despite his best attempts to maintain annoyance at all the questions and challenges in the direction of his romantic life, he couldn't help the way his enthusiasm overcame everything else. There was a satisfaction in doing things that other people needed on the island to make things a little bit less irritating, and he was undeniably looking forward to it.

"And aye I guess you are right. I don't want anyone else knowing ******** anything they didn't earn." The idea of people knowing things about the guys they could use for nefarious ends made him angry. "I'll ask."

He found himself gravitating back to the world of fried food and donuts. "I want to get started on it as soon as possible. "
