She'd wandered too far...that much was clear by the rapidly disappearing claw marks scratched within the bark of nearby trees. Still the little filly was feeling quite bold today and knew her father or grandfathers would come running if she cried out. After all the woods in which she'd just left belonged to the ghost herd. At first today had been about collecting herbs in a small pouch but, the scent of freshly spilled blood drew Awahi down a different pathway. Her wolf tail swaying to keep balanced. Nose quivering to try and sense what kind of creature had been injured. Surely nothing dangerous lurked nearby.

He hurt. Everywhere.

Yes he knew what he was asking for when he asked the knight to train him in the art of combat, but it seems that his muscles do not agree with what his head thought was a great idea. He had a few cuts and scrapes from that day’s training, nothing new, for he had survived worse. A shadow tinted his vibrant blue eyes as he thought back to the day when he nearly died at the hooves of a Kalona. The young foal does not blame the Kalona for what he did, he was just acting out his nature, and to the large stallion the tiny foal with a spiked tail was an abomination and should be disposed of. Killian walked over to the stream and looked down at his reflection in the clear pooling water. He was different, he was who he was, and that is all he wanted to be.

The sound of water let Awahi know exactly how far she'd wandered. So that was the stream father had brought them too a few weeks back. Smiling at the memory of learning to fish. The filly pressed onward with the same smile lighting up her young face. However when she rounded a bend in the path Awahi caught sight of what was injured. Without thought her voice filled the forest's relatively calm silence. "Oh no! Are you alright?" Moving forward her nose lowered a bit to peer at the cuts and scrapes. Brows furrowed with sudden worry. "Those will get infected if you aren't careful."

A white blur came out of nowhere startling the foal. She did not pause but came right up to him, seeming to be concerned for his well fair. She had claws instead of hooves and a bushy wolf like tail, who was this filly who showed worry for the health of a stranger? Killian looked at his wounds, “I’m fine, they are just scratches.” He paused, “Do you really think they are bad enough to get infected?”

The last time he was injured and bleeding, a mare healed him of all his ailments, he did not even have a scar after she was done with him; which was fantastic because his parents still do not know how close to death their son had come.

Tail swaying Awahi turned to grab the bag that had been light tied about her leg..father's many bird companions were learning to do such marvelous things with their beaks. "No no it's dangerous especially if you don't keep it clean..sadly I'm not a unicorn..." Claws scratching at the earth she carefully turned over the bag full of herbs..nose lowering to sniff..claws lightly pushing things aside. Spotting what was needed the filly wasted little time. "Please. Wash your leg cut..that one looks the worst, I have something that will help! How'd you get all beat up anyways? Did something chase you?" Eyes lighting up in a sudden burst of curious excitement she watched him, waiting to hear the story. Hoping the other foal would have something cool to tell her of the world outside the herd’s territory.

He bowed his head in consent and entered the stream; his blood flowed away from him as the cut became clean. The colt removed himself from the water and faced the little filly who appeared to be a skilled medicine mare. “I was not chased, these wounds that I have are a sign of my training.” He was not sure how much he should tell her, but since he could not just stand there in silence as she treated his leg and other various scratches, he decided to tell her his tale. “I train so that I will be able to protect the ones I care about and be able to best those who wish to destroy me… this idea of study came to me after I almost died during a Kalona attack. He saw me as a monster, as a Lessor who should not even exist and he did his duty and attempted to destroy me. He almost succeeded. If he was not injured from the battles a month before… I most likely would not be standing before you today…”He took a deep breath, “The world had gone black and I was drifting upon clouds when a tug brought me back. A mare was using her powers to heal my wounds. Soon I only had a few bruises to show for my ordeal. She introduced me to her Champion, her most trusted knight and he has been teaching me to protect myself and to be able to fight creatures or soquili who wish to do violent acts.”

Listening intently Awahi was in awe at all he said and nearly lost focus on the task at hand. Shaking off all the questions buzzing in her head the filly gently began crushing herbs with her claws..then spreading the mixture upon the males cuts and scrapes. "Just try not to let this get rubbed off..it will tingle some." Smiling at the job she'd done the filly stepped back a bit..finally letting the buzzing questions flow free..eyes lit up like stars. "That's amazing! You aren't a monster though, just like me.we are just unique. That's what daddy says! I wonder how she learned to do that..did her powers glow colors? What's a knight? Is that what you will be?" Taking a slightly gasping breath..she paused in her speaking..feeling shy all of a sudden at rambling off so much. Darn. Awahi had been trying so hard to not ramble to much at other soquili she met but, sometimes the words just broke free.

The pain of his leg lessened as she placed the herb compress upon it, he gave a small sigh of delight. A smile appeared upon his countenance, she was like him, they were different than most other soquili and yet that did not stop them from doing what they desired. His head cocked to the side as he considered her questions, “I do not know if her powers glowed any specific color, I was unconscious for most of the healing process… but if it did glow, I would have to guess that it would be gold, just like her horn and her heart. A knight is a solider, a protector of the weak, the guardian of the small. It is a person who is willing to fight for what he or she believes in. I am not sure I want to be a knight exactly, I think I would rather be a warrior.” He turned to look at his healer, “And what is it that you want to be, Lady Healer?”

Taking in all the information and filing it away for future reference; the little female gave a please wiggle...her claws tapping at the ground thoughtfully. "I-I…want to explore and trade things like my papa and grandpa do! I also want to learn more...everything I can. There's so much out in the great big world. Like the ocean… The mountains… So many things that I have only heard about but, haven't seen yet." She could hear her father’s voice echoing within her head 'Not until you're older.' Cheeks puffing out somewhat comically she stepped her way back over to the male, poking her nose curiously against his tail. Why didn't it have fur or hair; she wondered. "I like your tail…oh!" Suddenly realizing she had forgotten about 'manners' Awahi stepped back with a semi graceful little bow, lopsided smile in place. "I....Sir Warrior…am Awahi. It's very nice to meet you. Wanna help me collect more herbs or do you need to rest some?"

He watched as her claws tapped the ground in a rhythmic pattern, it was the first time he had ever seen claws upon a soquili. He had heard about Hippogryphs who have only two claws on their front hooves, this filly was different. Her words caused him to stop musing about the reasons she has four claws, “Your family trades? What do they trade?” There was a slight wishful sound to his voice, for he had not seen much of the world, but had heard of its many wonders, “The world is vast and there are so many wonderful places that have yet to be discovered… When will you get to see the world?” Killian gave a small laugh, “I think you are the first person to tell me that. Mostly people just stare at all the spikes and wonder what I did to be twisted.” He shrugged, “They do not see this as a blessing but a twisted curse by the Halloween Spirit.” An embarrassed flush comes to his face, he had forgotten his manners as well, he bowed his head, “It is a pleasure to meet you Healer Awahi. I’m Killian.” He lifted up his head and smiled at the filly, and hopefully his new friend, “I would love to help you collect more herbs. The knowledge may come in use someday, especially if I keep getting cuts and scrapes.”

Laughing in delight she gave a little hop of joy at meeting someone who was curious...and strange like her. Killian. "Yes, my papa trades soft pelts. Since four of our family members prefer to eat meat…we hunt and then use all the parts of the creature who gave it's life to help us keep going. Papa also has birds that help him with small tasks...and I help with my claws." Beaming with a small amount of pride Awahi bent to gather up her herbs…clumsily fussing with the tie...when the filly saw she wouldn't be able to tighten it with her mouth a little snort escaped. "Darn..." Settling the bag back to the earth Awahi realized she'd have to carry it till they found herbs. So she took this opportunity to talk more before exploring. "My parents say I can see the world when I'm older and bigger…until then my twin sister and me try to sneak out of the little barriers papa marked on the trees." Smiling a bit mischievously the clawed filly scooped up the bag and motioned with her head towards a nearby meadow. Humming around the material she moved with a sort of clumsy foal like grace...clawed toes occasionally gripping the grass & dirt to keep balanced. Once there among the bright green grass Awahi dropped the herbs...spinning around with a sweet giggle "Killian, let's be friends. You're the only boy I've ever met! Plus my sister is the only other foal that I have ever spoken with…or seen."

“That is fascinating, so there is a high demand for these pelts? Do you trade with other soquili as well as the Kawanii?” He did not even pause at the thought of her family eating meat; she appeared almost wolf like in some of her movements so it did not surprise him to learn of this knowledge. He looked at the small pouch upon the ground, “I would offer to help tie that, but my hooves are not quite as ambidextrous as your claws and my familiar is off hunting somewhere…” His thoughts went to his raven; it seemed Thaednevar only appeared when he wanted. Killian nodded his head, “That is how my parents are as well; it took them a lot of convincing to allow me to work with Sir Callan. If they hadn’t acquiesced, I think I would be going crazy if I was sequestered from the world, well the small amount that I get to see going to my lessons.” He followed the filly as she headed in a direction of the meadow, Killian gave a slight wince as his muscles protested walking, but soon the soreness receded as he warmed up his muscles. She must have had a very sheltered life if he was the first foal that she met outside of her sister; a smile came upon his countenance, “Yes! Let’s be friends. That is kind of sad, so you have not been able to meet with others and be a carefree foal?”
