Soft muttering could be heard in guardian HQ, accompanied by the soft rattle of metal bits against the uncarpeted floor. Thankfully for the silver cat that was doing the muttering, the large, shielded room was empty of other cats for the time being, because the mass of shiny little bits she had scattered would have been an almost intolerable tease for them. If Ash hadn't been so focused on the disassembled senshi phone between her paws, they might have drawn her into a game of pat-and-stalk... but she had far more important matters to capture her attention.
Another mutter about circuits and something fell out of the air to join the pile. The burmilla guardian pounced on it, turning the bit over as she debated whether or not what she had pulled out of her pocket would fit her purpose. It was just a little frustrating, not having fingers for this delicate bit of work, but Ash was determined to persevere! These phones were ridiculous... she cringed whenever she saw one in a senshi's hand.
Tail swishing behind her to disturb other rejected bits of wire and circuit board, Ash muttered to herself again as she patted the bit over to her phone and worked it into place.

********* was a hummer.
She was rather prone to humming, especially when trotting her way down to the HQ. It wasn't often that the Mauvian was able to linger in her slightly taller form, but the HQ was a safe haven.
The floor felt cool upon her bare feet as she seemed to slide in. However, the silvery haired Mauvian paused in step as her ears seemed to perk up on the top of her pigtailed head. A quick scan of the area revealed the workzone and the worker.
In a playful tone, she sang out "I spy with my little eye someone with a tail!"

The humming was at first unnoticed, or maybe just ignored. After all, there were far more interesting things to occupy the attention. The voice however, was startling in a place that had been rather quiet for rather a long time now, save for its single occupant...
Ash jumped as her tail puffed up behind her, jerking her head around to see a familiar face. Well... sort of familiar. The guardian it belonged to was familiar, though she'd only seen this face the once.
"*********!" She burst out, a laugh catching her. "You scared me, you goofball."
The puffed tail smoothed itself out as Ash settled onto her haunches, flicking it back and forth. Electronic bits rolled and rattled with the motion and she winced a little
"I was just, ah... tinkering." The silver guardian murmured, using a paw to push the bits into something of a neater pile... or some of the bits. There were quite a lot of them.

The Mauvian wiggled her fingers in front of her before cheerfully saying "I am very scary... rawr!" Flicking her wrist slightly as if to mock kitty-scratch, she couldn't help but stick out her tongue.
There weren't very many chairs in the HQ, but that mostly had to do with most of the occupants being far smaller than she was at the moment. However, after seeming to spring out of the room for a bit, she returned with an odd white swivel-chair, setting it down near Ash and her current project.
"...'Tinkering' you say?" she mentioned as she leaned forward, taking an eyeful of the pile.
"...would that happen to be a phone...?"

The way ********* wiggled her fingers was disarming, making Ash break out in a bright little laugh as she relaxed. Her tail swished more lazily now, her neat little head tilting to the side. Green eyes blinked when the other guardian ran out again, the answer to her sudden departure coming swiftly when she returned with a chair. Well! Couldn't expect her to sit on the floor, hmm? Especially since so much of that floor had silicon bits all over it.
When ********* had settled herself, inquiring after the project, Ash laid her ears back self-consciously and poked at the half assembled phone by her paws.
"Well... yes. But not like the old ones!" She said as her ears swiveled forward again, a bit of passion entering her voice. "Those phones we are giving senshi are so... OLD. Out dated... and just horrible. With the advances the rest of the world has made in phone technology, its practically a crime that our senshi should have to work with these things."
Clearing her throat, Ash pushed the phone closer to the other cat, poking it as she spoke.
"So, I decided I was going to make an updated version of the phone. See, I got the body worked out just fine, and the touch screen... But its the guts of it that are giving me the issue. Its... embarrassing, really. I mean, I deal in tech all the time, but there is just something... missing to this. That's what all of the mess is." The guardian glanced down at the bits with a frown, her tail giving an irritated flick. "Rejected pieces... things that didn't fit or didn't do what it was supposed to. I know I can make this work, I just... have to find the missing piece."

********* fingers wandered to the rim of her hat as she pushed the hat up slightly to get a better look in front of her.
"Ah... so you are trying to make this more cohesive to Earth technologies with advances similar to the Mauvian phones thus far?" She couldn't help but smirk a bit before mentioning "...I will be honest... you would have had a fit if you had seen the first generation of phones we distributed to senshi!"
Perhaps ********* relative age of involvement in this war was showing, but the first batch of phones were far less exciting than the current batch.
Keeping her feet up on the rim of her chair so she couldn't accidentally mess up Ash's workzone, she looked over the pieces.
"If you are in need of the opposable thumbs, I am willing to assist. I have been known to tinker, but I am not nearly as technologically intelligent as others. Not my strong suit!"

Ash gave ********* a look. One that very clearly said she had no idea what the old phones were like and very much had NO desire to know. If they were worse than the current ones, she shuddered to even imagine. What had they been, rotary?
"I simply think there are some interface issues that desperately need a face lift, and some wonderful new functions we could add with the proper housing for them." She said as she fiddled with the half assembled phone. "And its just... criminal that half the civilian population has better phones than our senshi."
Anyway. Setting aside the why of the thing, Ash decided to focus in on the how. If one mauvian mind could do extraordinary things, just think what two could do...
"So, here is the area where the component needs to go and..." She waved a paw about. "Here are your choices. Do you think you can one of these to fit? I might have something else squirreled away, but I feel like the anwser is right here, hiding from me."
The challenge and joy of collaboration was fast pushing aside her frustration and the silver cat was all to happy to dig into hard core electronic assembly.

********* shook her head briefly at some of the commentary, but made no actual comment to her own opinion. All she offered was a delightful giggle as she nodded her head.
Her fingers simply hovered over the pieces that Ash had pointed out. "It just seems like a simple case of trial and error then at this point... it looks like if the pieces don't fit, I can simply remove them and try another one..."
With that, her fingers finally seemed to dip down and pick up one of the pieces. Green eyes had visually measured, but the first piece she picked up had apparently been a gamble. Any Mauvian would have known that if a piece did not fit, the worst thing to do was to force it in.
With a gentle hum, she easily set the piece down to the side, then pulled up another to test it out.
"...so which updates were you implementing here anyways? It would be nice to know what I was actually doing at this point!"

Ash frowned as she watched ********* select a piece and discard it as unsuitable. Reaching, the silver cat touched the bit with a paw and it disappeared, back into her little pocket of subspace.
"Well, primarily this will have a touch screen interface with each of the functions the phones have now as applications, of sorts. Why reinvent the wheel, right? It gives us the ability to put out more functions in the future for download by the senshi. I'm building a pearl into the phones so everyone will be able to get to the moon, not just those who happen to catch a cat who has one they can spare. It'll be easier to read the primer and hopefully everything will simply be easier to use." She said as she watched the other guardian like a hawk, unblinking as ********* worked on her phone. "Right now there are no instructions as to what button does what, but hopefully the icons I've worked on will be more straightforward as to what they do."
Ash's tail flicked gently back and forth, twitching when it brushed over some of the scatter circuits.
"Maybe in the future I can add a GPS, or a news feed, or an S.O.S. button... the options are endless, really."

Her nose scrunched up a bit as the current piece also seemed to not fit in place. Delicately, she managed to get the piece out of the spot and set next to Ash's side.
"...If anything, I would almost propose that you put some sort of safeguards into place so that... senshi don't turn these tools into toys..."
Technology was all helpful until it became a liability. Considering how the human-versions of phones seemed to now be causing all sorts of issues.
Another piece was set into place, and with a little work, it seemed to snap into place.
"Okay... i think you can try this... maybe?"

The small snap of a piece sliding into place was caught by pointed ears and Ash pushed to her paws, going to poke her nose into what ********* was doing. Her face was radiant when she saw what ********* had done and the silver cat pounced on the phone, depressing the top button to power up the brand new phone.
A crow of excitement escaped Ash as the screen began to glow and she danced in place. The programs she had written came to life as the interface appeared, smooth little icons appearing on a pastel background.
"It works! OH OH OH looook! Look how pretty it is! So sleek and new and shiny and wonderful..." She gushed as she danced around the bit of electronics. "Thank you so much for helping me, ********* left off her doting over the phone to launch herself at the other mauvian, rubbing energetically against her legs.
"This means we can start updating the senshi phones, because the new phone is working! All it'll take is a little bit of updating, a new casing... easy as writing a virus!" She chirped, unable to stand still now in her excitement. "The phones will have to be updated manually, though... sadly. No auto updates the first go around. You'll help me though, right?"
Big green eyes blinked up at the other Mauvian, putting her best begging look to work.

Though Ash's excitement was refreshing in a "nerdy" way, ********* seemed to grow more thoughtful over the subject at hand.
"...so how are we going about this anyways? Am I to store a bunch of the newer phones in subspace, ready to transfer data from the older phones to the new ones... or...?"

"What? No, no, no... You just create the casing the way you do the old phones and then have your senshi give you their current one." Ash shook her head as she turned the new phone over and pried the case apart, showing her friend the inner workings. A flick of her tail produced the phone she had kept for herself and that too was pried open with a little effort.
"Next, just take that phone and you get this piece here..." The burmilla said as she demonstrated removing the specified piece. "And you put it here, in the new phone... Then close everything up and turn it on!" The steps were worked as she talked and when the phone powered up this time, it was with a new background to the screen.
"There!" Ash looked entirely too pleased with herself. "All the functions of the old phones in a sleek new look, with the possibility of adding more functions, like maybe a way to email knights, or something, I don't know. There is no reason to make games for it, or connect it to the internet, so hopefully that will dissuade people from misusing it."
Rising from her finished phone, Ash began to gather up her parts, tucking them away safely in her pocket.

Once more, ********* observed quietly, green eyes merely looking over the single chip pulled from the one phone and transferred to the next.
"I see, I see..." she murmured with a nod before standing herself up again. With a stretch from one side to another, she mentioned "...well... don't underestimate what some of the senshi can do with the phones... could be more trouble than it's worth!"
With that, she tilted her hat at her companion and proceeded to take the chair she had just brought in back with her.
There were some leftovers in the fridge that were calling her name.
