When his travels had led him onto Never Idle's threshold, The Killing Moon hadn't thought twice about offering his services. There had been no purpose in his wandering over the last few days and being a buck used to always having a task to accomplish, he would often stop in his tracks, feeling completely lost. It was a strange feeling, even if his ultimate goal was simply to explore and learn.

He was thus grateful for the chance to put himself to work and search for the swamp for the required items.

You find the still-glowing tail of some dead lizard. The rest of the carcass has been eaten. It's not what he asked for, but it sure is lovely....

Down a sharp incline, close to home bade, he found the glowing lizard tail. The rest had been carried off by some hungry beast and it was useless but he stayed for a time anyway, imagining how fascinated his mother would be.

Only a few paces away he found another lizard tail and Killing Moon chuckled. Rather unfortunate for the glowing lizard population, but some other beast out there was no doubt rather pleased with itself for the day.

You had every intention of bringing this perfect fallen fruit back to Never Idle, but temptation won out, and you ate it yourself. Way to go.

The juice of the fruit ran down and dripped off his chin. Even upon eating the perfect fruit, he didn't feel guilty. The treats was well deserved and he'd barely eaten a thing all morning.

A wonderfully lovely conch shell is nestled in the grass. It is strange to see this so far inland...

The Killing Moon rolled the conch over, admiring each angle. It wasn't what he was looking for, but it was beautiful and he wondered if he should bring it along anyway.

In the end, he chose to leave it for someone else to find and enjoy.

You find an ideal log. Unfortunately, rolling it free of the bracken it's trapped in and getting it back to the construction site will require some assistance! Help required. Success!

The perfect log... that wasn't going anywhere.

The Killing Moon alternated between trying to tear the bracken away and pushing at the log, but he was no match. It was stuck tight and there was no way he was going to be able to manage this without some help. Getting help, now that was the issue. It wasn't as if someone was simply going to stumble into the clearing...

But that was merely because Playing at War never did anything so silly as stumble about. No, she strode with purpose: and she stopped, a little disbelieving, when she saw the fiery buck pushing at the log on his own. "Are you actually helping that guy?" she asked, though it was a rhetorical question. Of course she'd heard that Never Idle and his band of merry familiars needed help, and of course she didn't care. She'd get trinkets in her own time.

She ended up helping the guy roll the log to its destination, sure, but only because it meant she might get to collect on a favor...later. A valuable one - the log turned out to be really heavy.

"So the Swamp does provide," he said with obvious amusement when the poison green doe appeared.

"There's joy to be had in honest work." It was a point he endeavored to prove to her as they laboured together to shift the log. A favour she was certainly entitled - and judging by the twinkle in his eye, a reward too, if she chose to take it.

Wow, Killing Moon, behave.

Thank you, darling! <3

A four-leafed clover probably isn't any use to Never Idle, but hey, maybe finding it will bring you good luck.

He laughed; of all the impossible things to find and all the things he was searching for. The buck took it as a good omen, dipping his head to the clover and continuing on his way.

Your nosy poking around has disturbed an angry old mare, who chases you off her land. You escape without incident.

When he stumbled over the old mare (she was bathing), he offered his most sincere apology. Unfortunately she took little heed and like a terror from an old story, rose from her muddy pool to run him off.

A smooth, sunbleached lynx skull lies in a clearing.

It was stunning, and again he felt a pang of regret that he could not simply take this item home. Still, perhaps Never Idle would have some use for it. He carried the skull back to the Legendary, leaving it to the side to be found later.

You stumble accidentally on what looks like the world's most perfect swimming hole. Maybe you should make yourself some path symbols, so you can find it again--or maybe you should take a dip right now.

He hit the water with a splash and felt the dust and exhaustion from his search simply float away. One day, he vowed, he would bring his brother back here.

Never Idle didn't ask you to bring back spider silk, but this perfectly-preserved web from a giant spider is too valuable to be left unattended.

He certainly hadn't been asked to bring back spider silk, but the web was perfect. It stretched across his path, glimmering with point of dew. It took a long time for him to carefully remove it from place and carry it safely back to Never Idle.

A Kin has died here, perhaps this past winter. Its carcass has long since decayed to merely bones, and on a tree above its resting place someone has scrawled the symbol for a name, and a shape like a ripple in a still pool. Strangely, they have accompanied the marker with the symbol for a safe place..

It was a moment of solemn reflection for The Killing Moon. He stood above the carcass, head bowed and his hair hanging past his eyes. This would be him one day, was the thought that ran through his mind first, and didn't scare him as much as he thought it would.

Who had this kin been? What were their hopes and dreams? Did they die too early or late in life? Had they accomplished everything they wanted? Had they been happy?

He was there for a long time, until finally walking off with a quiet, 'thank you.'

Another skull, but this one he left untouched in the clearing and continued onwards.

Long, winding ribbons of paper birch bark litter the ground, carefully peeled down by some unknown kin or animal. They weren't anything he asked for, but they sure are pretty...

They were lovely, but he had already taken back more than had been asked for and he had a task to focus on. Regrettably he left the paper birch bark behind.
