I was wondering what your oppions were on the Saiyuki fanfiction scattered across the internet. Personally I like the saiyuki fanfics that I find. I think they're cute. However i've heard people say other wise... So what do you guys think?

Umm, well, it depends, I guess.

I imagine it's the same with other fandoms, but out of all the ones I've ever been in, you can especially see the, er, shift in quality from fiction to fiction.

Ex. Every time I hit FFnet, it sees that there are a multitude of self-inserts and MSs. Aggh. Which is bad enough, but they're all the freakin' same. And there's a lot of OOCness. Goku angsting? The hell? That boy wears his heart on his sleeve! No really deep angst there! crying

As for genres, it really runs the gamut. There are a lot of cute ones (Three Demons and a Baby by Shin-no-shibo pops to mind), and a hell of a lot of romance and angst, and everything in between. So I guess there's something for everyone.

My main beef with Saiyuki fanfiction is with some of the writers and reviewers. Y'know, the ones that are all like, "#/# is the only one, and it pains me to see #/# because blah blah blah blah..." Yesh, I know everyone's entitled to their opinion, but where do they get off on saying that someone else's preference is wrong? The only current canonical pairing in Saiyuki is Nii/Gyokumen, if you even want to call it that, so no one's "right" until Minekura-sensei says so.

Other than that, I shan't complain much, because if you really dig, you'll find some great stories that are well worth a read 3nodding .

I like fanfiction. But it all depends on the author.... and I think that goes for all fandoms. With Saiyuki I haven't read that many fics, and the few that I have come across I thought was okay, but nothing incredibly outstanding though. Any recommendations would be nice... xp

Try here. sf = good heart . Lotsa variety, too, and from what I've read, it's all quite good.

Try http://www.discarnate.com/boysnextdoor/ It's not just Saiyuki, but if you dig through the entries in the 2004 Smut Contest there are a few gems including "Good Enough" and "Complicated." The BND girls are good about only taking good work into their archive but with the Smut Contests they post all entries, so you'll have to wallow a bit. ^_^

Choose your fics according to your taste I guess and you'd enjoy them ^_^

I can't say I like them all but I do enjoy reading some. There was one that I read that was truely wonderful but I lost the link when my computer crashed. I'll have to eventually find it again because I didn't get to finish but it was a yaoi fanfic with a plot. (Something rare these days)

YES! Are we talking about the same SF who wrote about the boys not being able to curse, drink, smoke and gamble for a whole day? smile

I really find that lately I'm running low on good Hakkai X Gojyo fics. Thankfully there are a lot of awesome stories out there already that I don't mind reading 3 or 4 times.

Sadly, with the series release here in the US, the fandom has lost some footing and I'm begining to see more and more fics that remind me of why I left the GW fandom.

I'm not a 585 fan by any means, but there's one great fic on AFFnet that you should definitely read, if you haven't already. You may even know which one I'm referring to. 3nodding

I'm not really into writing yaoi stories, and as I read over some of my own, I realize I write stuff a lot like mary-sues. But I have one defense. All the characters are IN character. Always. I reread my fics many a time. (while currently I have two Saiyuki fics going, and one that's... an archived convo... its very hentai.) I make sure, that the charas are in chara, there are only a few exceptions (none in Saiyuki yet, except Yaone kinda acts like an older sister to Lirin. I thought it worked, I'm rethinking that now.) But those are for artistic reasons! Oh, and my ff.net account is Tsu-Tsu the Harpy Lady and mediaminer is that too. Or something a lot like that, I'm always misspelling it. (I currently have no Saiyuki up yet except and envelope with a Hakkai, and Gojyo chibiness on it. Sorry.)
