I'll let Castor run into the dragons first, if that's alright. :3 Then Sam can come to his aid!

Sam wasn't entirely sure why he had been the one tasked with finding and bringing the borlarn its lunch. It seemed like something Oblivion should do, seeing as how the Diabi didn't want to spend two minutes with the borlarn, anyway. As opposed to Sam, whose favorite pastime was playing with his adorable assortment of pets. Unfortunately, he hadn't brought any with him on his trip to Soudul, so he only had the borlarn he'd caught since he'd been here... He'd learned quickly that borlarns enjoyed live prey, which meant Sam had to venture into the forest to find something small enough for it to kill on his own. Something that Sam could carry back without killing it or sustaining any injuries to himself. It was harder than it sounded, that was for sure.

"I suppose a bouken would be best..." He grumbled, knowing that meant clambering about in the underbrush in search of the elusive rodent-like creature.

That's perfectly fine, I do want him to kill one or two of the dragons himself though, one for the first one and the other for the awesome roll Castor got. Ah and for reference mostly this is the sort of sword he has.

Though it was Castor's first real venture outside of Oblivion City he found himself more lost in thought than excited for the chance to prove himself. Could he really slay a dragon? He knew he had to, but couldn't help questioning his own skills on whether or not he would be able to really kill a dragon. After all, he had only acquired his Dao a few weeks ago. He had been training non-stop with his uncle Julius since then but... what if it wasn't enough? It may be swung sort of like a club, but it was alien to him compared to the wooden practice maces his father had trained him with originally.

He had no problem seeing in the dark forest, which was the only convenience of being born with this sort of vision. The trees and underbrush were perfectly visible, and while he saw some rustling in the trees and bushes here and there in the area around him it seemed quiet. Much quieter than it had been just an hour ago in the first leg of the forest.

"Oh?... What is this?" he spoke softly as he looked over a bush with what appeared to be little berries from a bit of a distance. If he remembered correctly from studying the books filled with survival information for Soudul that uncle Julius had made him read those looked to be of the non-poisonous variety... he have a few days worth of supplies in his bag but a bit more food wouldn't hurt anything.

As Castor crouched down to pick the berries off of the bush he heard some flapping noises and a soft landing. With a quick look up over the bush he saw a dragon... it was slightly different than the depictions in the books, as the dragon began to bare it's teeth. "Wha..." his mind froze for a second and his body became stiff as the dragon reared back on it's two hind-legs and began to swing it's front legs with their sharp claws at him. "What's... what..." he gasped as a light bulb switched on in his mind and all of the reactions and instincts he built up over the years training had come to fruition. He dodge rolled to the right out of the way and drew the saber, swinging it into the back of the Ysali's neck, he hit its spine and while it was dying quickly it wasn't dead just yet. It let out a horrible ear-piercing shriek as it hit the ground.

"Dammit... hold still, I need to pull this out..." he muttered as he attempted to dislodge his saber from the back of the writhing Ysali's neck. It was fading fast now, about to breathe it's last breath as he heard a large group of flapping wings approaching fast. Looking behind him as he was attempting to dislodge the saber from the now dead Ysali's fading corpse, four more Ysali closed in at a breakneck speed. "Oh my gods! Why did this have to happen Now!" He shouted struggling with the blade still.

His rolls were higher on three of the dice, so he can kill those three, if you'd like. ^w^

There was nothing. Sam was pretty sure there was nothing for a borlarn to snack on in this entire forest. And that was sad, seeing as how forests were supposedly much more populated than deserts... The Gaili never had too much trouble finding dinner on Eowyn, so why should he have trouble finding it here? In a forest. Where food was supposed to be abundant. With a huff of annoyance, he kicked a shrub, half expecting a bird to fly out of it. But no, the forest was quiet. And still. And dark. Much darker than his sunny home. Levi should've handled this, Sam was sure of it now. The Diabi had to understand the ways of the forest and darkness, and he was much more suited to this than Sam would ever be. With a scowl, he trudged forward, ever deeper into the blackness, and silence, and stillness.

Until it wasn't.

Something screamed, and Sam twisted his neck to peer in the direction the noise had come from. Even though the sound gurgled to silence, it still seemed to echo around him. Whatever it was must be hurt pretty badly. Maybe little creatures would go and feast on it... Easy pickings. Sam had to check it out. His wings were useless in the trees, so he set off at a run, ducking under branches and weaving around roots until he heard... two-legger speech.

This seemed a peculiar place for a two-legger to be... The Gaili approached curiously, poking his head in between some leaves so he could catch sight of what was going on. From what Sam could make out in the darkness, it was a young two-legger, surrounded by writhing green tree trunks and- Wait, no. They were bodies. Sam squinted, then shut his eyes, feeling out across the ground with his earthen magic. The bodies of dragons. In addition to the one the child was grappling with, there were four others. Sam hadn't met many young people, but any number of dragons was probably too much for a two-legged child to handle.

He had to help.

With a low rumble, his summoned forth the coils of his magic and called it to his aid. As he dove into the clearing, he sent a ripple of earth out from around the Oblivionite's feet, pushing the screeching and bloodthirsty Ysali's away from him, while the first merely crumbled away, freeing his sword and revealing two shimmering Dragon Orbs. "Kid, are you alright?" He asked brusquely.

Makes sense and works for me. :3

He stood in awe for a second as a large ripple of earth spread out in a circle around him like when a drop of water hits a pond. Castor was sure it was magic but he didn't really have time to think about it too much. While the Ysali dragons were pushed away they were not even close to dealt with yet.

Ignoring the orbs for the moment Castor reached down and picked up his sword, quickly getting back into his stance and scanning the area for where the magic had come from, his eyes landing on a very tall elegant looking man. Was this man a Dovaa? He had never met one before and he heard they were dragon-like people, and this man fit the profile that his father had told him, horns on the head, strong, majestic looking sort of people. Though... he never heard that they had tails or wings. Castor. And yes, thanks to you I think I'll live to breathe at least a few more minutes. You have my gratitude." He said appreciative of the help. He decided he should still remain cautious around this new person, for now at least.

Readying himself for another onslaught from these dragons he readied himself. "I think I might be able to take one or two more of these... but I'm not sure, this is the first time I have done anything like this..." he said with a bit of nervous sweat running down his back. It was a well placed blow the first time, but he wasn't sure if he would be so lucky yet again and these dragons were beginning to ready themselves again. He didn't know if he could keep up for too long with his novice sword skills.

Sam glided forward to take up a post next to the ki- erm, Castor. As he landed near the young Oblivionite, he blinked in surprise. "You... You've never fought a dragon before?" And here he was surrounded by five of them. Vaguely, Sam wondered f he wasn't out here alone. The tyke was dressed well enough that he had to have a family. What reasonable parent would send a kid out alone on their first time? He glanced around but caught wind of nothing but forest and dragons. "Well, let's see if we can't extend that time a little." He wasn't one to allow a defenseless child to handle the world alone, no matter the race.

"It'll be good for you to handle as much as you can. There are much stronger creatures than Ysali dragons out here. I'll stick around and make sure you don't get hurt too badly. So go ahead and give it your best shot." Sam encouraged lightly as the four remaining dragons righted themselves and grumbled out disapprovingly. With a snarl, one of them lunged forward, baring its teeth at the two-leggers.

"No I have never fought a dragon before..." Castor spoke, readying himself to the best of his ability as the man glided towards him."I've been preparing for years... but the real thing is a lot more...." Intimidating was the word that came to mind, but he kept himself from speaking the word, choking it down. "difficult to fight then I had imagined." He still wasn't sure about the man's motives, but the man seemed like he wanted to help, which was welcome given the circumstances.

"Right..." he spoke trailing off at the end at the thought of these dragons in front of him being pretty weak compared to most monsters. Castor was still just a boy and inexperienced in real combat but he realized that had a hard path ahead of him, and that he would have to embrace it whole-heartedly. "I'll do my best to take down as many as I can." Castor said, gripping the handle of his sword tightly.

When the Ysali dragon lunged forward shortly after he spoke he found himself frozen for a few seconds, not sure where he should strike with his sword. The eye? The neck? That had worked pretty well the first time, other than the mishap of not cutting through the entire way. He was sure the head was vulnerable, most animal's heads were... The only thing that had pulled him back to reality from his pondering were the claws that were now just inches from his face. Move! He screamed out internally as his eyes widened and his head shifted a bit to the left, a few strands of his hair being cut away, lucky that he had reacted. With a clumsy overhead chop Castor brought the blade down on one of the Yalsi dragon's horns, cutting it off. "That was... uncomfortably close." He said quietly as he jumped back a few steps.

Sam snorted and shook his head. Poor boy out here all by himself and then suddenly surrounded with dragons. He was lucky Sam had been around, even if it meant the little borlarn would have to wait for its meal just a little longer.

The Ysali reared back with a roar as Castor's sword hacked through the brittle end of it's horn. It's sharp cry of pain summoned forth the other three Ysalis to converge on Sam and the young Oblivionite like a wave. While they were by no means the most powerful of creatures, they still had sharp claws and talons that could rip flesh from bone without thinking twice. Sam knew it would be unwise to let the beasts separate him from the young lad. When he felt heated breath just barely ghosting over the back of his wings, he whipped around, leaping into the air to kick out. The motion sapped a collection of gravel from the earth, and it careened forward to crash into the side of the Ysali's skull, knocking it to the ground long enough for Sam to bludgeon it with a heavy boulder. The dragon crumpled into dust and scattered to the wind.

He turned back briefly to see if castor had made any progress with his own beast. "As a side note, you might find it easiest to go for softer spots." Sam commented, remembering how he'd tried to chop at a horn. Ysalis didn't have the thickest of hides, but some had scales like bark. Sam generally found the best place to attack, if at all possible, was their much softer bellies...

Castor found himself muttering "Cool..." to himself as he watched the man jump through the air and take out the dragon with earth magic. He must be a mage like his mother... these Dovaa people seem strong, or it could be that this man in particular is especially strong. He realized as he turned back to the now aggravated Ysali dragon that he didn't know the man's name or anything about him. Putting the thought out of his mind, he settled on asking later as he tightened his grip on his sword.

"Oh... yeah... that would probably work a bit better than going for the horn." He spoke back as the dragon lunged at him, rearing up on it's hind legs. Soft parts, where are the soft parts... looking over the dragon's body it looked remarkably like a tree in a different form, and it had the same pattern of bark-like scales over most of it's body. Ah! Opening! With a bit of a grunt he put all of his strength into a chop at the dragon's chest. The blade slide through with much less effort than the other swings he had made on the dragons, and after pulling the blade through the chest and into the stomach the dragon turned into dust leaving a little pretty dragon soul on the ground. "I... did it!" He let out in a little cry of happiness.

So... If you wanted to (and don't feel obligated XD) Castor can kill the one that attacked Sam, and then Sam'll use magic to cover Castor's back and finish the last one.)

The Gaili grinned, proud to be some sort of help to a young dragon-slayer. When he'd been starting out himself, he hadn't had much luck at all, particularly with Ysalis... No one had taken it open themselves to help him in the field. It would've been a good bonding experience for he and his brother, but- Never mind. There were still two dragons left. While Ysalis were hardly a threat to him any longer, Castor still needed to be watched. The Khehorian felt some strange degree of pride at being able to watch the youngster slay his first dragons. At being able to guide in this situation. "It was a good swing!" Sam praised brightly. "But there are still others. No time for celebration during battle. There'll be time for that after."

He wished he knew more about two-legger fighting. He knew very little about going in with a sword, so he wouldn't be any help with that... Castor seemed pretty handy at his young age, so he'd probably only get better from here. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew that while he was paying attention to two things, it wasn't the right two things. There was one dragon, yes. And then Castor. So something was, missing...?

He grunted as something larger than him crashed against his back from behind and shoved him to the ground beneath two sets of talons. He was heavy-set enough that the dragon couldn't simply crush him with its weight. But it still had a nice set of pointed teeth and sharp claws that could rip through his thick skin and scales enough to mess him up pretty badly. Sam snarled and writhed beneath it, his tail lashing in agitation.

Going for it cause it works so well for this.

"Yeah! I can't believe I've actually killed some dragons, on my first hunt even." He was smiling ear to ear, looking down at his dao and the dragon souls on the ground. This was going a lot better than he had expected, he thought he would be out in the woods more than a few days before he would defeat a dragon. Now he could spend the rest of the time out here hunting other beasts for supplies for his training or.... what was that noise?

He heard a grunt from the large man that pulled Castor back from his thoughts. Quickly turning around he saw a Ysali pinning the man down. He might not know much about the man, but he seemed nice, and from what Castor had just done to the other two dragons Castor could probably get the Ysali off of him, or get rid of the Ysali completely. He couldn't stab very well with this type of sword, he figured that out early on during training and thought about how to do this as he slowly moved forward, trying to draw as little attention to himself as possible, he wouldn't be any help if he got smacked away by the dragon.

Finally within arms reach the dragon seemed to notice Castor's presence and he swung the dao out sideways, lodging it between the dragon's ribs deep inside for a few seconds before it faded to dust. "Wait.... wasn't there one more dragon?" Castor asked between pants, there had to be one more, but he didn't know where it was until he felt the warm breath on the back of his neck.

So much for being a proud tutor. Sam tried not to dwell on the thought of being pinned by a measly Ysali and subsequently being saved by a child who'd never battled a dragon before this. It wasn't as though he couldn't have gotten out of it, of course. He was just... miffed that it had come to this. Oh well. So long as Castor didn't get too swelled a head, it wouldn't annoy Sam to the point where it would ruin his attitude, anyway.

The blade chopped into the dragon. Where it could've tried to sink its teeth into Sam's neck, it instead drove its claws into his back, writhing as it tried to dislodge the source of its misery. After a few seconds, and much of its blood being slung about from its wound, it faded into dust, and the weight of it was lifted from the Gaili's back.

Now free to move about, Sam glanced up to catch a flash of white teeth nearing the smaller, dark child. The last dragon. The beasts probably could've ended it while Sam was grounded, but once he found his footing, the Ysali didn't stand a chance. Even as it dove to take a bite out of Castor, Sam moved, crouching down to the ground with one leg extended, and calling forth his magic to push back on the earth. The ground beneath the Ysali turned to silt, and it slid away, dragging the beast back unexpectedly. For a mere moment, it lost its footing, stumbling against the shifting earth.

It fanned its wings to right itself, but before it could raise itself to its full height again, Sam slammed his foot down on its extended neck. The bones creaked and shattered beneath the force of his blow, and after a moment, it too faded away. The Gaili waited until the forest was still again, with no signs of more encroaching beasts. He turned to the little Oblivionite with a soft smile. "Are you alright?"

After the large man slayed the last dragon in a flashy sort of way by slamming his foot down on the dragon, Castor had not seen someone use his body by itself as a weapon in combat before, maybe it was a part of his inexperience but the movements fascinated him. Castor bent over and picked up his sword from the ground where it fell after the dragon he placed it in thrashed around before it died.

"Yeah, I think I'm alright..." he let out as he sheathed his sword and pat his hands over his body to make sure everything was still in place, until he got to the left side of his head and found that one of the passing swipes of the dragons had shortened some of his curls. "seems I got a bit of a haircut by one the dragons though." He dusted himself off a bit and looked up at the tall dragon man. "It's nice to meet you, I've never met a Dovaa before... though now I am finding that I don't know your name." He scratched the back of his head and looked down. "Sorry... I probably wasn't that useful or anything... I only started using a sword a few weeks ago. You were amazing though! Thank you for helping me." He gave the tall man a warm smile as he looked up with admiration.

As a side note, we've got our word count, so don't forget to post in the Stats Thread to get Castor's updated stats!

Sam blinked in confusion, his tail swaying behind him curiously. A... Dovaa? He looked down at his arm, scrutinizing the thick scales there. Truth be told, in all his years he'd never met a Dovaa either. But he was sure there were unique differences between what a full-grown two-legger child would look like and what Sam looked like. Right? His claws, his tail... And that... actually might be it, as far as he heard. With a tiny forwn, the Gaili shook the thought away. "I'm no Dovaa, little one- Er, Castor, I mean. My name is Sam, and I'm a Khehora!"

Right. He could probably just show the young Oblivionite. That would at least make it more believable, anyway. With a tiny nod to himself, Sam stepped back and let his magic swirl around him in a wave of gold. When it dissipated, he was on all fours, though certainly no smaller because of it. he fluttered his wings and flicked his tail, claws digging into the earth. "See?" He questioned. "Pretty cool, right?" Couldn't Dovaa also transform into dragons, though...? So, he wasn't really proving anything at all... Sam snorted and shook his head. "You'll just have to trust me."
