Ellion had been travelling this way for about a week, following a broken narrow path along the edge of a deep river that cut its way along a gorge at the bottom of a cliff. He was searching for new flowers to bring home to his mother and simply enjoying the new sights. His father and sister had finally returned from their long trek south and it was the first time in ages that Ellion had been able to leave home for any long amount of time, he knew his father's familiar and their family friends would look after Vesper in his absence, but he worried nonetheless.
He was no longer used to long trips and he found himself exhausted by the journey, his hooves ached and his muscles were stiff and sore from the now unfamiliar work of pickig his way over rough terrain, The stallion simply gritted his teeth and ignored his minor discomforts, he would just have to build his strength and stamina up again.
Ellion rounded a bend in the path and gasped with astonishment, a little way ahead, there had been a rockslide, a huge piece of the cliff above had slid down across the valley floor, leaving a rocky perilous slope, Ellion was doubtful that he'd be able to pick a way across it on foot without risking a broken leg. He would have to fly, but that was no problem. Flexing his wigs he effortlessly launched his body into the air over the rubble, shuddering a little at the sheer weight of the rock below him. He was glad he hadn't been there when the cliff face broke away. A flash of color caught his eye, causing him to dart in for a closer look. Bright orange feathers were scattered around a particularly large tumble of rocks. Testing the flat stones below gingerly with his hooves, he judged them safe and set down a top one of them, blanching in terror as the whole mass shifted and then settled again under his weight, making a terrible racket. He leaned down and picked the feather up in his teeth for a closer look. How curious, he had never seen a bird with such bright plumage before!

The click of gravel moving reached his ears, Ellion turned his head out of habit to identify the source of the noise and was greeted by the sight of more scattered feathers and a great heap of stones that was shedding loose pebbles and earth in a small trickle. Enough to clear a tiny hole into the mound, it wasn't entirely solid then. Nerves prickling, the stallion edged away, if it wasn't solid, he ran the risk of causing this entire mess to start sliding again by putting his weight on it. He was about to take off again and be away from this death trap when a small sorrowful sound cam from the opening. Carefully, ever so carefully, he edged his way over to the space and looked in. It was dark, too dark to see much, but he was almost certain he saw movement down there. "Hello?" He called out tentatively, certainly nothing could be alive down there, could it? He picked up a fist sized rock between his teeth and spat it away. A few more rocks followed the first until he had a narrow fissure to look through. There was definitely something down there. He could make out a flash of orange and green just barely. The bird who'd lost so many feathers? His stomach twisted at the thought of the state it must be in after so terrible a fall. "Can you hear me?" He was terrified the rocks would tumble into the tunnel he was clearing to finish the thing off before he could free it so he worked as fast as he could, even while trying to call to the poor creature entombed below him.
Wasteland Wyvern xD At least its not just me! <3

Ellion's pace doubled when he heard the weak cry, that was no bird down there. "I'm coming" He responded, trying to keep his voice even and calm. She didn't need to hear the panic thrumming through his veins right now. He did't know if he would have the skills to heal her, or how he could possible move her without making things worse once he dug down, but that was unimportant right now. He had to concentrate on getting to her safely before he could move farther. He was careful to move the rocks downhill from them and he hovered as much as he could to keep from shifting anything with his weight. His wings were starting to feel the strain of so much use but flying was one thing he had never stopped practicing, it was his passion, his wings had never failed him before and he would not allow them to now.
He worked for what felt like hours, certainly the sun was much lower now than when he had begun, finally he had a gap large enough to get to her. He set his hooves down gingerly and carefully picked his way through the tunnel, holding his breath as much as possible to try and avoid breathing the dusty air but coughing despite his best efforts. When he was next to her he squeezed his eyes shut for a moment in sympathy, needing to compose himself before moving further. He knelt down and nuzzled her gently, "It will be alright." He promised, hoping that he was not lying. "Can you walk?" He questioned in a level voice. He ran his nose lightly and impersonally over her limbs and abdomen, "Where does it hurt?" he had to know how best to move her if she couldn't do it herself.

Ellion's chest was tight with concern but he did his best to school his features into a calm expression that conveyed nothing of the turmoil inside. Causing her to panic would not help the situation. He could hear the creak and groan of thousands of pounds of barely settled rock around them, he had to get her out of there before the entire mass fell in and killed both of them. He hoped her ribs weren't broken, or at least that there were no splinters or jagged edges, if so, moving her could puncture a lung. There wasn't much choice however, if she stayed she would be lost and there was no time to stabilize her before moving. Gently but firmly, Ellion wedged his head under her soft stomach and lifted. "Come on then, we should get you out of here. We'll find you somewhere more comfortable to rest and recover." His heart was thundering with adrenaline fueled by terror. Faster, faster, not fast enough! a little voice seemed to be saying. If he could get her to stand, he may have to try and carry her after all. Something was screaming to him to get out of that hole in the ground as fast as possible, but he couldn't leave her. Couldn't live with himself if he fled to safety and left her to perish in whatever was coming. Their fates were now linked. "I'm not sure" Ellion answered honestly, "We've only just met, but once we get you out of here, I will do my best to help you find out."

Ellion was relieved the mare was able to stand on her own, if unsteady, legs. He wasn't sure he could have carried her on such unsteady ground and he would have ran the risk of injuring her more. He could see her injuries were grave, he could see she would be a long time in recovering, but thankfully none required immediate treatment. "This way," he replied firmly, leading the way out of the tunnel he had cleared, staying close enough to be able to steady her should she lose her footing. As they reached the open air, his heart nearly stopped as he felt the whole mound begin to move. "Quickly now, he murmured, trying to keep his panic out of his voice. He quickly spotted the shortest route to steady ground and led her down the trail, feeling the vibration beginning under his hooves, making the pebbles shiver and clatter around them. "We may have to run once we're down," he warned, his voice shaking slightly.
Wasteland Wyvern Me too, just been caught up in a moving haze! Our elevator is broken and we've been carrying up various heavy pieces of furniture up four flights of stairs for ages now u-u

Despite his attempts to remain calm, Ellion's breath was coming in shorter gasps as the adrenaline pulsed through his veins. It was a harrowing climb down and all the while he could feel the tremors beneath his hooves. He thought his heart might burst with relief when they finally reached solid ground. He wanted to stop to allow her time to rest but his instincts screamed for them to keep going, he let her cut in front of him and nudged her with his nose towards the game trail. "Back that way, don't dally but try not to jostle yourself too much. We'll run if we must but lets save our energy till we absolutely need it." They would follow the river as far as possible, he knew a few miles away the ravine was much less desolate, plants and trees were able to flourish beside the river. They could find food, a soft place to rest, and herbs to help fight infection and pain for the injured mare. He wished he didn't have to make her move, it likely would only exacerbate the injuries she already had, but it was run or die at this point and he couldn't treat death. Once they were out of immediate danger she would need to stay still to heal, she would need his help to survive while she recovered. And Ellion would help her, it was the right thing to do, and more than that, he felt a strange draw to her. It seemed something precious would be lost from the world if this particular life was extinguished, that made matters simple as far as the stallion was concerned, he simply wouldn't allow that to come to pass.

Ellion cast concerned glances over he shoulder at his companion as they moved, her breathing concerned him and her injuries looked even more grave out in the sunlight than they did when she was buried alive in that rocky tomb.
It was with relief that they finally passed the boundary of the ravine. A roaring crash behind them and the subsequent cloud of dust and lighter debris that rolled over them was testimony that they had been correct in their decision to run. They had barely escaped in time. With the threat of imminent danger and possible death past, Ellion turned with concern to the mare and bit his lip to hold back the worried gasp. She was a mess, she definitely should not be moving around. He spotted a grassy area not far away from the meandering river that looked promising, with a reassuring smile, he gently nudged her in that direction.
It was a good choice, peaceful, quiet, perhaps not as secluded as he would have liked but it would do for the time being. "Here we are, lie down, and lets take a look at you." He stood close by to steady her if she needed it but otherwise made no move to help her, he knew from experience that having someone else move you when you were injured could be excruciatingly painful, even if he was careful he would risk jostling something. "I'll need to call you something." He said gently, trying to distract her mind from the pain she must be suffering, "I can't very well call you 'you' all the time, I imagine you wouldn't appreciate it either." He smiled, inviting her to share in his little joke.
