Kadryn stretched and flew back to her rocky spire to rest and clean off some of the blood from her clothing. Once up there she noticed the wind was blowing more strongly than before. Grumbling she flew back down to find a better place outside of the wind to clean her wings off. The blood was already drying and hardening her soft feathers making them rattle; a sound Kadryn disliked to hear. She found a large cave, probably the dragon’s she’d just killed lairs. She managed to get mot of her wings cleaned when she heard the sounds of growling snarls and hissing voices. Her ears perked up; that sounded like the Ordon’s she’d beaten earlier. She waited a bit, griping her mace as she listened to the sounds. They were getting closer. Should I ambush these one’s? She sighed and shook her head. No, they weren’t near her home and she’d already fought a lot today. If they came here and attacked, she’d defend otherwise she’s et them be.
But, despite her decision to not attack, the voices got closer, and she could hear their claws upon the stone. Shaking her head, she stood up and readied herself for battle. It seemed today was going to be fight filled! Must be making up for the past months of domestication, she thought with a grin. The Ordon’s rounded the corner to see Kadryn bouncing her mace on her shoulder. She grinned and swung it down into a ready stance.

Both the Ordon’s, bearing again the primitive clothing and markings, also took up stances. They hissed and snapped at her, a challenging tone as they manipulated the earth to thrust spikes of stone at her. She laughed and smashed the spikes as they appeared. Then she charged, mace held low ready to bash any magic or stone thrown her way. They both stepped forward and drew their javelins. She laughed at them, spears! Small wooden javelins against her mace? This was no competition! Her mace lashed out to shatter the javelin and the arm that held it as the other ducked her blow and jabbed at her. She skipped backwards out of its range before jumping back in and slamming her mace in an overhead blow that crushed the jabbing Ordon’s back. It let out a gurgling his as it fell and Kadryn quickly lashed her mace to the side to bash the other one into the wall. It slid down, leaving a bloody smear on the wall and lay still. Kadryn shook her head, trying to rest on Ayr was turning out to be a hassle! She cleaned the mace off once more and headed back out into the windy day. She needed to reach the ferry by noon to catch the ferry! She flared her wings and leaped into the air, flapping her wings hard to gain altitude and get above the strong canyon winds. After a while she heard a buzzing sound. Pausing in midair, she hovered for a bit and looked around. The buzzing increased, but she couldn’t spot it. “Blasted mist!” She muttered, just like it kept many from seeing her ambushes, it also kept her from seeing others. She pulled her mace out and prepared to fight. That buzz was getting closer… if it wanted a fight she’d fight! But, Justin case, she flew up a little bit to get out of the mist and hopefully see whatever was coming towards her,

In the mists, Kadryn hovered with her mace at ready. Her bright blue eyes watched the swirls and eddying of the pale mist that shifted with the wind. It muffled the sound, but not enough to keep her from locating its source. She shifted to face it, there were.. two.. no three insects coming her way. They must have been large to generate the buzzing she heard, and they were driving towards her quickly. They must be hunting and think I am the prey, Kadryn thought with a grin. Boy, are they I for a surprise! Her hands gripped her mace and she swung it u into a stance; ready for battle.
Two insects about her sized zipped out of the mists, followed by one twice their size. Kadryn whistled, impressed.
“Large bugs… but you’ll squish just as easily as your smaller cousins!” She knew what they were now that she could see them: Vispirii. And the large one had to be a queen, though newly hatched and going to start her own colony since she wasn’t as big as some Kadryn had heard about. Plus she wasn’t in her hive; established queens never left the hive. Kadryn’s spiked mace lashed out, hitting one of the Vispirii soldiers in the abdomen and got a screech of pain in response. She furled her wings slightly to drop down in altitude to dodge the other soldier. They were very poisonous…. And she did not want to deal with the effects of the poison! Having over shot its target, the large blue bug had to slow down and dive in turn; giving Kadryn enough time to fly up back to meet the wounded one and finish it off before the Queen got too close or the other one returned.
Laughing, Kadryn flew up high then dived down into the mists; she wanted to get them near the ground so she’d have an easier time finding the bodies… Kirosh would love to have their venom for his arrows, she was certain! That meant she needed to keep track of the bodies so she could harvest them. It did not occur to her to be afraid; these were bugs and she’d faced much worse before. Venom nor size scared her. She was used to being smaller ad all she had to do was dodge and she wouldn’t get poisoned. She grinned. That, was an easy task! Magic now.. magic would make this harder. But these were bugs, and bugs had no magic! She spun and smashed her mace into the Queen who’d gotten too close to her. “Fast bugs aren’t you?” She quipped as it screeched and struggled to remain in the air with one of its gloriously colored wings was crushed. The soldier, seeing its queen hurt, dove in without a care. It had to protect the queen. Just what Kadryn wanted! She snapped her wings open to slow her dive and struck up with her mace. It slammed with a gooey crunch into the diving soldier. The wind blew the goo away before it could shower Kadryn; for which she was glad as she already had blood stains on her. No need to add bug guts!
Now to end it, Kadryn thought as her eyes gleamed with blood lust and she flew at the queen. Her hand, gloved in heavy leather that could dull a lightning bolt, snapped out and gripped the queen’s jagged proboscis and held the queens screaming head still as her mace slashed down and ended the fight in a bloody crunch.

Kadryn landed on the ground near the fallen vispirii soldiers bodies. Her hand, still gripping the dripping head of the queen, held it up and she reached to carefully pry the mouth open to expose the venom sac. Years of cutting away poison and venom sacs from food so she could cook it meant that she knew how to get it out quickly and without causing it to rupture as they could if you weren’t careful. After a few quick and precise knife slashes, the sac fell out into her hand. She smiled as she pocked it and tossed the head away. Now for the others! Kirosh will be happy to see these when I come back! She thought as she gathered the other sacs and wrapped all three in some of the cloth she’d looted from the Ordon’s earlier. She shrugged her mace back into its sling and launched herself back into the air. I need to get to the ferry! I’ve probably missed the first launch cause of all these fights! She smiled, but if I clear the area now, it’ll take some time to fill up with more predators so Avani and I should be able to get here without too much trouble.. if I can convince her father to let me take her! Luckily she was able to reach the port without any more interruptions. If I hadn’t had those fights, I probably could have flown across the sea, she thought to herself before shaking her head. No, she’d promised Kirosh to take it easy and not strain her wings when she didn’t need to. Much as she loved to fly over the sea, he did have a point about the dangers. If I fell no one would be there to help.. so higher chance of death. Chancing death was fun.,. but she had Kirosh to think of now! I need to not take ridiculous risks when I don’t need to. There’s enough danger on Ayr as is without risking more.

Kadryn finally reached the port and landed with a sigh on the docks. Now she could rest a bit and clean up after her fights, maybe even take a nap or something. She waved to the ferry master as she boarded. He shook his head with a grin. He’d been running this ferry for many years and had seen her quite a bit when she was younger. Seeing her now covered in blood splatters was not a surprise at all! After casting off and making sure everything was running in good order, he wandered over to chat wit her. “Ye still getting into bloody fights?” He asked with amusement. “
“Well, I had a string of battles right after each other so… kinda hard not to get dirty.” She replied with a wrinkle of her nose.
“What’d ye fight?” He asked curiously. He was a chatty person by nature and always tried to find out about events around the world as well as learning about the people who used his ferry.
“Ordons plus a Vispirii queen and two soldiers.”
“Queen?” He asked curiously.
“Uh huh. Guess it was a young one who was leaving to start her own hive cause why else would they be flying out like that?”
“Makes sense. Normally ye’d have to kill the whole hive to get at one.” He thought for a moment. “Innit their poison super strong?”
“I wouldn’t know that.” Kadryn said as she finished cleaning her mace. Turning to her bag she pulled out the poison sacks she’d found. “You know anything about these?” She asked.
He took them carefully in his weathered hands and hemmed and hawed over them. “This’in is strong poison.” He said, holding up the gland she’d gotten from the solider. “And this’in… this is real special. Ye could get a lot fer it in the right markets.”
“I’m not normally one who uses poison,” Kadryn said, “So I’ll probably just give this to Kirosh… or sell it.” Poison was cheating! Plus if you used it then you couldn’t use your weapon in a sparring match... ever. How were you to know you’d gotten all the poison off after all?
“Good choice that.”

Kadryn, after the guy left, sat watching the sea. She did love how the waves rolled about, the play of light and water upon the boat and in the depths below. Darkness hid secrets, secrets she’d seen just once. A smile at the memory of diving crossed her face. I need to go and harvest some Bahikal salvia so I can take Kirosh down and show him the wonders under the sea! A gift for all the wonderful places he’s shown me. As she was watching and enjoying the cool sea breeze, several shadows the size of her lover’s Hastars swam beneath the boat. Slim and streamlined she almost didn’t see them: but a glimmer along the pale blue scales gave them away. Her hand immediately grabbed her mace as she stood up and looked over the edge. The captain noticed her movements and gave a cry; “Watch the sea lads! Something’s down there!” He knew that a warrior of her skill would not start and grab their weapon from nothing. At his cry the few other warriors grabbed their weapons and readied themselves. The sea was just as dangerous, if not more, than the wilderness of the land. More because large predators lurked in the deep: legends spoke of creatures that dwarfed the largest of dragons, creatures of enormous appetites and faster than a bird in the water. Plus to kill them you had to go into the water, where you were at a disadvantage and slowed while they were at their fastest.
Kadryn had no problem with diving into the ocean to fight creatures: she had enough training that she knew how to fight there. All you had to do was keep your weapon in… or grab the enemy and bash them over the head! She had a very simple solution, one that fit her perfectly fine.
“They’re Kahlikri!” One of the sailors on lookout called. “Five of them! Looks like Huntresses and Seaspinners!” Kadryn paused and looked at her neighbor.
“Huntresses and Seaspinners?”
“Oh…Seaspinners are males and the Huntresses are the more dominant and stronger females. I think.” The mage said with a worried look.
“Do they have magic?” Kadryn asked curiously, “I’ve not fought many sea creatures before…”
“Oh! No… just speed and numbers.”
“Good.” She said as she shed her jacket and stepped overboard into the water.
“Wha—Wait!” The kid (well, more like teenager but kid to Kadryn’s eyes) cried out as he rushed to the edge and looked over. His shocked expression made the captain laugh.
“Dinna worry lad She’s a barbarian… sitting on the boat and waiting just innit her thing.”
“But… to jump into the ocean and fight them there….”
“She’ll be fine.” Another warrior spoke up, this one an archer. “She’s Wild Tribe… They’re crazy like that."
“Oh…” The lad peeked down and saw the Kahlikri begin to circle. “I hope you’re right….”

Kadryn, down below, heard none of this: instead she heard the pounding of the water, the popping sound of bubbles and the rippling of the Kahlikri as they closed in. She smiled when she saw them. No wonder some call them Sea hastars, they’re the right size, just no legs! Plus that cool looking skull. Wonder if I can harvest that and take it back to Kirosh?
There was no time for thought after that. The Seaspinners charged in. Kadryn though, was expecting them and stopped paddling her legs to keep her in place. The weight of her mace pulled her down out of their way. She quickly thrust it back up into the body of one of the trailing Spinners. It spiked though the small scales, and the blood seeped out into the water. She grabbed it by the wounded tail and smashed the skull in. Spinning quickly, she used the body as a shield. It was promptly impaled by two keening Kahlikri that charged her. Kadryn spun her mace towards their heads: one she smashed, the other swam out of the way in time. She pumped her arms and legs and swam to the surface to grab a breath of air, tossing two of the bodies onto the ship’s deck before diving down again.
Now the Huntresses joined in, their keening cries echoing oddly in the water. It made a nice counterpoint to the sound of the waves, Kadryn thought with a grin as she twisted out of the way of the last Seaspinner and kicked its face. Her mace swung out, causing the Kahlikri’s to duck and back off quickly while she crushed the body of the stunned seaspinner with the head of her mace. Good, I’ve got an intact skull! She thought happily. She grabbed it and held it like a shield in one hand. As she watched the Huntresses circle and prepare for the next attack, arrows from above sizzled through and struck the one circling behind her. Oh good, one of them has enchanted arrows...though I could have taken them by myself! She grinned as the last two charged. Her mace met one and slammed it into the other stunning it. Which made it easy prey for the next blow. Hauling the three bodies up (the last one killed by arrows had sunk too deep) she tossed them on board then clambered up with a grin.
“That was fun! I’ve got a cool skull to show my family now!” The others shook their heads as the young mage offered to dry her off. “Sure lad.”
“Why’d you jump in?” He asked as he cast his heating spells. Kadryn, busy with cleaning and getting the surviving undamaged skulls off looked up.
“Because otherwise I couldn’t fight them. Hitting from the surface into the water is much harder to hit things then when you’re in the water with them. Plus while we waited for them to get close, one or more could go and poke holes in the boat. I’d rather not fly back home since I’m tired."
“Oh.. that makes some sense…”
“Plus it’s more fun to fight them there… it’s boring to stay up here and let others do the work!”
The archer, who’d come over to watch, snorted. “That’s more the reason than anything else.”
“Hmm, probably.” Kadryn laughed and offered up one of the skulls. “The one you killed sank but you can have this one!”
“Thanks.. what are you going to do with the bodies?” He asked curiously. “Gonna cook them! My aunt has a recipe for it that I learned when I was little. Never cooked it myself though.”
“Oh? I never thought to cook the creatures I hunted…” the mage said.
Kadryn sighed and shook her head. “That’s a waste. If you kill something then use the meat or something! Otherwise an Elkun can be born from the waste you leave behind.”
“Elkun’s don’t exist.” The lad said. To which both Kadryn and the archer laughed.
“They do exist, boy. They live and hunt down those who kill and leave the bodies behind to rot.” Kadryn said as she shook her head and gathered up the meat. “It’s an ancient spell, one that was cast long ago and consumed the castors very life to cast. Better be careful boy. There may be one out waiting for you to return so it can kill you.”
“What?!” He gave her a shocked and scared look.
“They know who killed.. and they always try to hunt that one down.” The archer said. Kadryn nodded.
“I’m going to go borrow the kitchen, we can talk later.”
