Everything was wrong, and it was driving Tahigwa insane. She was in a Shifter village, surrounded by thousands of scurrying people, injured and not, and her girlfriend had wandered off again. Yaholo had taken off towards the forests, visibly upset over something, the boys were playing as if nothing was going on, and her mother wasn't there to bring her out of this hell. In fact, no one seemed to be paying attention to her, even when she reached out to her elders, or raced after Pahana as she went by with Dyakida at her side. She felt so alone... So uncertain.
Being an adult really sucked. Was she even allowed to complain about how she felt? She wanted to bolt, she wanted to hide, but what if someone needed her? Her stomach twisted into knots as she resigned to sit upon an empty crate by the side of a hut. A few children raced past her and waved, to which she paid a subtle smile, before leaning her head against the hut and sighing.
"I really wish I could be like them..." She muttered to the trees. "Why did I have to grow up?"

"It would be nice to have that sort of innocence again, I agree, sister." Rishima said from where he standing nearby. He was taking a walk, getting a breath of air, trying to relax despite the fact that it was nearly impossible at the moment. He didn't like this, didn't like retreating, it would only strengthen the resolve of the invaders. They shouldn't have fled, they should have fought harder... but at the same time there were some amongst them that were injured, too many. He wished that there was a way that he could have done more to keep his people safe he thought to himself, thinking on Gerraden who had been amongst those who were injured quite gravely.
He couldn't help but to worry about him, poor Gerraden. He had been more roughed up then he'd of liked by the Oban invaders. How he wanted to be with with him right now... but just needed to get himself a breath of air. Rishima's antennae gave a little twitch before he turned his attention toward the direction that the battle had taken place. He wondered what the Obans were doing now, where they were, if they were planning to come here. The idea was something that worried him a bit, not knowing if they were coming here, if they were bringing more of those monsters, and if they were getting reinforcements from their home country. It was something that he didn't like thinking about because it meant that he wouldn't be able to get the answer without a lot of help.
Turning toward his fellow Alkidike he asked, "How are you holding up, sister?"

Tahigwa turned her gaze to Rishima and sat upright against the hut. Hm, she'd never met another hybrid male before, besides her brother and her nephews, that is. She offered Rishima a smile, out of courtesy, and went right back to flopping against the hut.
"Horribly, I haven't felt this distraught since my mother was sick with Crystal Rot." She replied, huffing out a puff of air. "My girlfriend wandered off, my brother's sprinted off somewhere in a panic, the world is dissolving into chaos, and I'm miles away from home."
She pursed her lips, pondering why she added the last bit to her reply. She always hated going home to Andile when she was younger... Why did she miss it so much now? She couldn't help but worry about her mother, her aunt, her cousins, and her baby sister. What were they doing? Had Yaholo raced back there to tell them that everyone had made it back alright? Something in the way her antennae twitched told her that he was far from okay, so he couldn't be headed home, could he? She sighed, shook her head, and faced Rishima.
"What about you, Sister?" She asked. "Is any of this making you as dismal and shaken as I am?"

Rishima's mismatched eyes got a little wide as his fellow Alkidike explained to him how she was doing and he couldn't help but to sympathize. It really wasn't all that good a time for anyone in the area. Most everyone was left demoralized by the loss, something the Obans would probably be joyful over. It was all that he could even think about at the moment... Sighing a little he gave her the best smile that he could muster given the circumstances, "All of it is." He murmured, antennae twitching a little before they laid back.
"One of my charges was injured in the battle, I blame myself. I didn't keep a good enough eye on him even told I told him that I would protect him. It's something that is weighing on me." He hated the fact that Gerraden had been hurt, he was far too young to be in the middle of a war. He didn't want to see him hurt in such a manner. Turning to look over at his sister he said, "It's also something that is weighing on everyone, myself included, that we were beaten by the Obans and their beasts." He gave a soft sigh before he said, "How I wish that we had known they had something that big, we might have been able to prepare for it better." How, he couldn't say, but knowing would have been better then being so blindsided by it.

Tahigwa sighed and adjusted her position again. Well, at least others were feeling as helpless and disturbed as she was, she wasn't as alone in the abyss as she thought she had been after all. Her own antennae twitched, moving towards where her brother had raced off to, before drifting back into a calm position. Something was happening... Her Sister senses were tingliiiing...
"Ugggh, me too!" She exclaimed, pulling her knees towards her chest. "One of my brother's friends got his arm crushed by one of the beasts. Every bone, smashed. This guy's lucky he's a Monk, though, he can heal himself, I guess." She shook her head. Rastian was not the luckiest guy of their bunch, was he? She and her brother were the luckiest, Ogbonna was fairly mashed, and Rastian... Well, he'd be nursing his arm for the second time.
"You know, though..." She continued, gazing to the side. "Why blame yourself for what the Oban's did? Your friend isn't angry with you, is he? You did your best, Sister."

"I fear that things are going to get worse. We need to work hard to keep close to those we care for, to protect them, and prepare for whatever Oba plans to do next." He said as he looked once more in the direction that they had been battling not that long ago. His hand tightened on his weapon for a moment, eyes squeezing shut, and he dragged in a deep breath. It was painful, knowing that they had no idea what was coming next. His antennae twitched a bit, his arms crossed over his chest, hands gripping his upper arms. It was one of this situations that were driving him crazy at this point, it made him want nothing more then to go to Gerraden again, to fret over him. He knew that it wasn't a good idea though, Gerraden needed to rest after the wounds he'd gotten in the battle. Best to let him get that rest.
As his sister tried to sooth him he gave a bit of a smile, though it was a weak one, and he said, "Even if that is the truth I still can't help but to blame myself. I guess, given that he is like me, one of very few, it makes me want to look after him. I know how hard it can be to be someone like us." He had made very minimal friends among the hybrid community. There was Gerraden, of course, and then he'd met with Yaholo just a little bit in the past as well. As such the few he knew of were those that he wanted to protect... and he'd failed to do so. Rishima ducked his head for a moment, eyes closing, "Once he is back on his feet I am sure I will feel better, it will mean that I can watch over him again... though I think it would be best for us to move deeper into Jauhar as soon as we can. The more space been us and the Obans the better."
Turning to look over toward Tahigwa, "What are you plans?" He asked of her, curiously. He wondered what it was that his sisters were planning to do now. Would they return to the Chibale Isles? It might be the safest place to be but it would also appear as retreat, meaning he couldn't say what they might do next as a group.

Orpheus Solon No rush, just letting you know I replied! <3 Tahigwa's eyes seemed to sink further in sorrow as Rishima spoke. Things were only going to get worse, more people were going to die, and she would be far further from feeling safe. That was fantastic, just, fantastic!
"Plans?" She squeaked, literally blinking out of her daze. "...I... I don't know if I can keep any of my plans for the future, now. Aside from my girlfriend... I think everything else I want will have to wait." She pursed her lip tightly, feelings of anger welling up underneath her anguish. "I feel that Yansa could have told us more, she could have done so much more! But, as usual, she's just another useless elder that refuses to get down from her shiny pedestal and be level with the rest of us." She let out a low growl and clenched her fists. "If I were an elder, I'd be honest, accepting, and loyal no matter the cost! The way she told us to retreat was nothing short of cowardice! I hate her!"

Lifting a hand up Rishima chewed on his thumb nail in a nervous manner, not really pleased at the moment with the fact that they were standing still. While he knew that they needed this rest at the same time he felt as though he... no, they, they should be doing something. He tried to make it seem as though the group as a whole needed to be doing something other then waiting around, those who were uninjured at least, but deep down he knew he was the one that didn't want to sit still. It was too quiet, too still, and he felt as though it were the calm before another storm... he would much rather storm arrived then having to be stuck waiting. That had stressed him out so much the last time he was forced to wait, to the point that he was left exhausted physically and mentally by the waiting alone. He couldn't deal with that a second time.
Turning his attention to Tahigwa as she started to speak he gave a smile, "That is a good plan, you will want to keep her close to help to keep her safe." He would need to do the same with Gerraden, though he felt he should start by patrolling, perhaps? It would allow him to do something more then just waiting after all.
When the girl started to suddenly rage at Yansa he gave a slight wince, his antennae laying low against his head, "I am sorry that you feel that way, at the moment I feel that perhaps the only thing can do is look to our family, friends, and elders in such a time as this one. It's a desperate time and fighting amongst our own will do us little good." In fighting would only make it easier for Oba to take control... a thought that he didn't care for even in the least bit. Shaking his head gave his weapon a glance, then looked back to Tahigwa, "Shall we walk? I don't know about you but I can't sit still at the moment."

Tahigwa looked up to Rishima at the suggestion of a walk, paused, and nodded firmly. Yeah, she could use a walk, maybe it would help her blow off some steam. She hopped off of the box she had been perched on and stood close to Rishima's side, before placing her hands behind her back.
"Yeah, look to our elders..." She sighed, giving her shoulders a shrug. "I... I've never been that trusting of my elders, not even when I was little. My mom was so sick, my aunt was a mess, and everyone that held a figure of importance in our tribe saw me as a nuisance... How could I put my faith in a bunch of adults who looked at me like I would never conform?"
She adjusted her headband across her head and huffed out a bit of air, before moving forward. "You just want to go through the village, or...?" She asked, waiting for him to direct which way they would be walking.

Rishima starred at the younger girl for a moment before his antennae gave a twitch, "I can't say that I know what it's like to be seen as a nuisance to our sisters, I mean I fit in with them so well." He said, lifting a hand to cover a little smile. He knew full well what it was like to have to deal with their sisters and what they did and did not like, "I know it's hard, having to deal with those that can he hard to deal with, but we have to think of our sisters as a whole. There are those who needs us regardless of what some may say. We have to think of the younglings for instance, or perhaps, Aisha, as well as those who can fight for various reasons. We have to be strong for them." He knew there were some who couldn't fight due to old age or disability, a sister he'd met was blind for instance. There were a lot of factors that they had to think about, "Instead of thinking on those who dislike us we have to think about those who need us. There will always be those look down upon what is different after all." "I tend to circle around the outside of the village, some times a little further. I want to keep my eyes open in case those of Oba wish to try a surprise attack against this place. We have many wounded, many who are too young or too old to fight, as well as Healers. This would be the perfect place to strike to truly cripple us." He would love to believe that the Obans weren't so cruel that they would kill those who could not fight but he didn't know them, didn't know their King, and as such it was best to think of the worst case scenario. That way they could try to prevent it through their efforts. Motioning to her he said, "Come this way, we will see about making a perimeter check, I will be able to rest a little easier if everything looks alright."

Tahigwa's face turned red as an apple when she realized what she had said. Ooooh! That was pretty stupid of her, wasn't it? He was a hybrid, he knew what it was like to be confronted with bias and ignorance every day! Why couldn't she keep her big mouth shut?
"See them all as a whole? Yeah..." She pondered the idea moment or so, walking in a leisurely manner. "I agree about protecting the young and the helpless, but if an elder continuously disrespects me, I don't really want to help save their skin."
Her brother, sister. Pahana, her nephews, mother, girlfriend, and her immediate family were her top priority at all times, in her mind. Next came the children of the tribe, the Prentices, and, finally, the other adults and the elders. However, if she were especially angry at the elders during a serious occasion, she would rather save an Earthling's life if everyone else before them had found safety. A life was a life to her, unless you disrespected her or her family for what they were, then you were automatically less of a priority.
"Sure, that sounds good." She said, nodding to his suggestion of a perimeter check. "I need to make sure my nephews are behaving, too. I don't want to get in trouble for not watching them."

Rishima's antennae gave a little twitch before he gave a nod of his head, "It can be difficult, often in fact. There are always those who won't welcome those who like or welcome those who are different then they are." He said as the two of them started to work, "It just means that those like us have to be that much stronger, deal with their displeasure, and do what we can to proves ourselves despite it. It can be tough, but it's worth it I believe." He knew that there would always be those who didn't approve of his presence, he was quite different after all, but the fact that he had a chance in the past to prove himself to both Yansa and Eshe helped.
Rishima knew that they both just had to keep at it and he felt that things would go well for them in the future. At least that was what he hoped for even if he did have a little outsider liked Gerraden following him about like a Raptrix pup nowadays. He felt that it was likely that they might not like him, Gerraden was from a Shifter village after all, but he meant to keep him safe from everything that he could regardless of him being so different. He was a good person after all, even if he was a bit odd at times.
Turning to look at his fellow sister as she spot of her checking on her nephews he gave her a smile, "Did we want to check on them first, before we go on our patrol?" he asked of her, curious about what her nephews and what they might be like. From the sounds of it they must be young if she was worried about them behaving and commenting on how she didn't want to get in trouble for not watching them. He didn't want to get his sister into trouble because she wasn't watching after her nephews so he felt that it was best that they check in on the boys first.

"Like our elders, who still believe we're the most superior race out there." Tahigwa remarked, as Rishima spoke of those who don't like other races. "I don't understand why we can't just intermingle and coexist where we want to. We fail when we don't work together across continents. Just look at how well we did out there!"
At the question about her nephews, she paused, before heaving a sigh.
"We should seek them out as we wander," She replied. "The younger one likes to leave the older one's side, we'll probably find them in two different spaces."

Rishima's antennae twitched before raising up for a moment at his sister's comment before he turned to glance her way, "As much as I want to believe the same I fear that the trouncing the Obans gave us might point to them being the superiors ones. At least as far as our first battle against them went. I fear what they might try next." They had given everyone a chance to surrender before the first battle meaning that they might not given anyone else that chance again. Would they kill in an indiscriminate manner from here on out because they had been unable to defeat them in battle? Had their choices, and subsequent failures, put the various members of all the other tribes in danger? Such questions had been raging through his mind since they had been forced to retreat.
He shook his head quickly to clear such thoughts, wanting to think about better things, not the same things over and over again. He lacked answers to his questions so really it was an exercise in futility to keep on mulling over said questions. Instead he would focus on his sister and the nephews she spoke of, "Alright, we will check in on them first, then we will begin our rounds. That is if you still feel up to it after we have found the pair of them." If the searched proved to be an exhausting one then he wouldn't force her to come along with him for the patrol. He had done it many times on his own, this time would be no different... though he would feel a little better having someone else nearby. Now wasn't a time when he wanted to be completely on his own, not during such dangerous days.
"So, where do you think they might be at the moment? Any ideas?" He wasn't too well versed in younglings, he didn't have any of his own nor did he spend a lot of time with them. As such he would look to Tahigwa for guidance, perhaps he could learn a thing or two from her.

Tahigwa's gaze fell blank as Rishima spoke, her thoughts taking over much of her perception of the area. She understood his point about the Obans and agreed that they should continue to fear what could come next, but every part of her being still pointed to her elders being the ones to blame for all the chaos. Couldn't they have tried to bring forth an idea of peace and compromise first? Maybe they could have struck up some sort of deal with this king and everyone could have prospered instead of become another body to bring home for burial. She looked to Rishima a moment, her eyes lingering upon him, and for once in her life, she refrained from speaking. He was like her brother, strong, hard working, and proud of his lineage, while she, a pure blood Alkidike, was bad-mouthing the very people who allowed him to feel his pride. While she wanted to continue to argue ideas of peace and the wrongs of her elders, she felt as though she had said enough, and forced herself to smile.
"They're probably with other children." She replied. "I think they were playing with another pair of twins, of mixed earthling lineage."
