Who do you think Alanna makes a better couple with? Prince Jonathan, George, or, the other guy she meets up with in the Lioness Rampant. Liam, I think. Sorry, haven't read it in awhile. Anyway, which makes a better couple?

Well, I like Alanna paired with any of the three, but I would have to go with George and Alanna. He waited for her for so long and it was rather sweet when they finally ended up together.

There's no way Liam and Alanna could have been happy together. Liam was too phobic of a fundamental part of Alanna, her magic. I was a bit disappointed at first when Jon and Alanna didn't work out, but seriously. Jon was being such an a**, and I really liked the Jon/Thayet pairing. In conclusion, George was the best person for Alanna. Also George is just a kick a** character in general. Furthermore, he respected and accepted all of Alanna's sides and abilities. Plus, he was a thief and a kick a** character, did I mention?

I just reread In the Hand of the Goddess yesterday, in which Jonathon and George actually start showing romantic interest in Alanna. I think George went about it better. He let Alanna know how he felt, but he didn't press her. Jon was rather aggressive about it, on the other hand. I quote: "We belong to each other," like Alanna doesn't really get any say in the matter.

I totally agree. Jon and Alanna would've never worked out. Alanna would've felt trapped and very uncomfortable as queen, and since Liam was so scared of her magic, I'm surprised something happened between them at all!!! But George is such a nice, funny guy, he's perfect for Alanna!!!! xd

I was so in love with George from first introduction that I couldn't imagine her being with anyone else. I was rooting for them all along, and was SO stoked when it ended that way. whee

Wow, you beat me to this topic! I think Alanna and George worked out the best. Jon was too much like her for them to work out well. Also, Liam was afraid of part of her (and kinda not around anymore sad ) George always treated her well.

George and Alanna are for the best the two work together, they balance each other out. Also her and Liam would have never worked out because Liam feared magic and the two were just too much alike besides that. I just reread the entire SOTL series and I think that Jon and Alanna would have just been scary.

Jonathan and Liam sucked. Go GEORGE!!!!!!!! He was always on Alanna's side and knew what to do or say to make her feel better.

In the Song of the Lioness series George seemed very good for Alanna but in The Trickster's Choice, she seemed like a bad choice for George. He's so much more fun and relaxed while she has such a temper and is always away.
They're still good together but I just think that Thom or Alan (Alanna's boys) should come home from they're training soon to run the castle so that George can leave to see Alanna.

I'm almost half way through Trickster's Choice (second time), and I'm noticing the same thing. I was thinking that is must be hard on George to see Alanna once in a while. Also, Alanna seems like less of a sympathetic character in this series... (Like how she was never around when her children were growing up)

You know, I think they knew from the start that Alanna would not be home often. And in the Tricksters duo, you realize how anxious Alanna is about her missing daughter. It really sucks for her, because she has to work, and can't go searching for her daughter. And it's noted that she really wants to. I think in this situation, I compare Alanna to a single, working mother. Though she's obviously married, and the reasoning is different - Alanna has to be at work a lot. Her kids being away in training is probably for the best. They are occupied and not neglected. You have to keep in mind as well, that George is also working full time. It's just that his job keeps him more or less in one place - at the very least, more so than Alanna.

Alanna and Jonathan wouldn't make the best of couples, because Alanna would have to do the "duties" of a queen. While with Liam, even if he had lived, their personalities would probably clash. Of course, Alanna's changingness(is that a word?) would really throw Liam off. xD
Maybe I'm biased, but George and Alanna are good for each other. George can always get Alanna from a foul mood, even make her laugh. As we can see, they've been a great couple, through all the Tortall books. :3
