Are there not two seperate things? People keep telling me that they have the same meaning.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but: Atheism: belief in lack of god/diety Agnosticism: nonreligious

The Atheist says, "God is dead/nonexistent/made up." (disbelief in supreme diety) The Agnostic lies awake at night wondering if God is real. (questioning exhistance of a God)

Atheist: Comes in two varieties, hard and soft atheism. Hard atheism: belief that there is not a god Soft atheism: no belief in god
Agnosticism: holds that the existence of god is not known at this time.

Wow... the same thing? Let me guess... whoever told you that was someone else on this site, right? If so, I'm not surprised. whee
If you want a good rundown, it's probably better to do your own research. Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page] has some good articles. From what I've read, Agnosticism is strictly a philosophy on the nature of KNOWLEDGE about deity or a higher power, not neccesarily whether or not that higher power exists or not. One can, for instance, be an Agnostic Theist or an Agnostic Atheist. All in all it can get kinda confusing.

You have separated things a bit for though. Thx.

The way I've come to understand it, Agnostics believe in a higher power than themselves, but they also believe that we cannot know anything about it. Thus organized religion is entirely wrought with misconception.
Aethists, on the other hand, don't exist.

SyphaBelnades What makes you say athiests don't exist? A love for irony, mostly. But really, you can't believe in nothing. Even if you do believe in nothing, then that's a belief in something. They can't logically exist. It's a paradox beyond my own comprehension.

I think they believe that there is no God.

a dislexic insomniac agnostic lies in bed and wonders if there is any dog...
agnostic, athiest, they both seem pretty faithless to me.
I believe I don't know, say one
I believe I don't care, say other
ignorance and indifference:
I don't know or I don't care...

and here's where I get angry...
No.
Agnosticism is not ignorance. believing that you could ever possibly know anything about the true nature of god is ignorance. Not to mention that it is also blasphemy as defined by pretty much every major religion. It's not I believe I don't know, It's I believe I cannot know, but that doesn't mean I have to stop looking.
Neither are faithless. Faithless people generally don't care enough to define themselves. Many of them still go to church, just out of habit, and sometimes for the sense of community, but they have no faith. This isn't faithlessness, it's just believing in something besides the commonly defined "god."

Woah, sorry Nitesi! Go to the topic about racism and jokes. The thing I said was a quoted joke. Didn't mean to offend, of course the number one rule about me is that if I say something and it can be taken two ways, take it the good way. Liek as a joke. Which was how it was meant. Agnostics are not ignorant... EVERYBODY IS!!! rofl Excuse me.
