This young mare had just entered this new land. She was searching for the place she was to go, but the road there was long. Not to mention there was so much to see. For a young mare who had never heft the place her family called home, she was easily getting a hang of this traveling thing. it was something she had always wanted to do.

Those eyes bounced over the land and everything there was to see. Her heart fluttered and that tail was given a heavy flick. She had stopped to get a little look around at the top of a hill. She was a wee bit list, but she tried to make the best of it. Something about this new place had her mind spinning and her heart racing. She was almost list in her own thoughts. The warm air felt good against the soft colored fur and those green eyes would scan the horizon in the distance. She was rather excited, enough that she was unable to set still for long.

Spotting a river ahead she would tun and head down the hill at a run, allowing her hair to blow back and her hooves would dance against the ground. She only slowed once she reached the waterside, walking up she lowered her head for a small drink. This gave her time to decide what to do from here.

Juniper walked along the boundary of the part of the forest that he had claimed as his own. He would care for this place, just as he hoped it would care for him, and any future family he may have. He chuckled at that thought. Getting a little ahead of him, his thoughts were!

He stopped on top of a large rock that over looked a view of the plains below. He could hear the faint sound of the brook that babbled into the river that divided the plain below. He breathed deep the smell of the pine trees and flower; spring was finally here, the snow had melted giving rebirth to the land.

Something broke through his thoughts, and he found it was a spot running across the plain towards the large ribbon of water below from where he stood.

He was intrigued. Not many came this way, and those who did, mostly were lost in their way. He decied to check it out, just in case. He made his way down the slope of the foothill, following the babbiling sound of the brook to the faster, swifter sound of river.

He followed the river towards where he saw the movement before. It had been too fast for a two-legger, and too big for a small animal. He sniffed the wind, cautious and curious about the newcomer. Skinwalkers were also not strangers to this land, and they were better off left alone, and in his opinion, better off lost.

But the wind held no ill will in it’s scent, so he approached the edge of the river slowly, and saw a mare drinking from the pristine waters.

“Hello.” He said softly, trying not to startle the mare, “How are you this fine day?”

He took a small sip of water, drinking more than he had intended (It just tasted so good!), and then stood up smiling at the mare.

“The water is very good here!”

Irissa had not expected to run into another. She had not seen many along her travels, and was starting to question if this land was baron and without life. She had not know he was there until he spoke, this making her heart leap in her chest, her head jrek back. If she could she would of jumped right out of her skin. She often allowed herself to become lost in thought way to easily.

Still, besides the jerk her startled nature was not shown easily. She could think the stars today that she did not fall into the water or embarrass herself to much.

"Hello and fine greetings." She would offer to him. "I am slightly tired, but am of good health. May I ask how you are doing as well?"

Her head leaned to the side slightly, then, those green hues seemed to shift back to the water. It was good, rather clean. It surprised her slightly how lovely this place was. Though, nothing was like home. For someone diying to get out and explore the world, she was mighty homesick.

"It is. Is this your home?" She pulled her ears to the side. Such a stupid question to ask. She felt slightly embarrassed she even asked it in the first place.

Juniper smiled at the pale mare as s slight pink hue joined the green one on her neck and face.

“I am doing well.” He said twitching his ears for any other sign of others. He knew being out in the open was a weakness as well as a boon. While he could actually see other’s approaching, his sight was limited while his ears and nose could tell him much more, “No, my home is up there in the foothills and the forest.” He moved his head in the directions of his home, then looked back towards the mare, “But I saw you approach the river from a lovely spot, and had to see if you needed any assistance.” He smiled and said, “Many get lost in those woods, and there is the odd skinwalker there, so I try to steer them in the right direction.” He then looked at her and said, “If you are truly tired, then feel free to use the shade of the trees in my territory. Perhaps, if you are hungry as well, I can find something for you to eat as you rest, and I can guide you to safer parts.”

He chuckled, “Please feel free to use my lands for your needs before you need to go,” He smiled kindly at her, “It is the least I can do for those who travel near or through it.”

He bowed his head in deference quickly, and then said, “I am Juniper, at your service.”

Irissa took in his words, offering a soft smile. She felt a little glad to bump into someone. Her eyes were drawn from the water reflections to his actual face as she brought those eyes to a half close in a smile. His words were inviting, and it made her feel a little more at ease. Soon her gaze would follow his to the forest.

"I am slightly lost. I am to meet a friend, I was told to pass the forest here and continue on for three days from the other side." She spoke honestly, her eyes glancing back to him.

She was a bit worries. She had heard stories of these skinwalkers. She would rather avoid one at all costs, that was for sure. She liked her looks as they were. Untainted from the scars, and of course changes that can come with them.

Her pelt almost trembled as she continued to allow her thoughts carry her away. Soon they would be shaken from her head. She would return to that positive look with that smile once more pulling at her lips.

"I am a bit hungry, and I would like some help getting through the woods. I find myself quite new at this stuff."

She though would take in his name that was offered to her, roll it around in her head some before speaking once more. "I am Irissa. It is such a pleasure to meet you."

Juniper nodded and smiled, “It is a pleasure to meet you Irissa.” He thought for a moment and said, “I will guide you to a place that you can rest and find you some food.” He thought some more and said, “Three days from the forest you say? I know of some others who roam the land about a day’s journey from the forest. I can lead you to one of them if you wish. They would most likely be happy to accompany you for protection if you wish.”

He thought of the wind soquili that he knew of that camped with some two-leggers. Perhaps he could watch over if she decided to take him up on that offer. He just hoped the big bird wasn't too twitterpainted to help him out. Juniper looked at the little mare again and felt his heart tug a bit. She was so small and she seemed alone and scared. Well, if the big bird was busy, Juniper would just take the mare himself! He just couldn't stand a damsel in distress!

Irissa gave him a soft smile, sweet, but light. She was rather proper in how she acted at times. She would take in his words and let them roll over her mind. She fully lifted her head and looked around them. Ears would flick slightly as she thought about it, and in the end she knew the best rout. She was new at this. She would need a little help.

"If you would, it would be so nice. I am not so used to traveling. Though I have always wanted to, I hardly got away from home until I was told to go here." She had no idea of what to eat, or where the best places to rest were. She just knew she was free. It was the best feeling ever to be free to make choices.

"I hope they will be able to help as well. I feel silly for not knowing how to care for myself out here." She laughed hesitantly before glancing back at him. those ears fell back slightly before she took in a deep breath. She did the best she could to hide her embarrassment.

"I am not to sure I would be able to protest myself either if it came down to it." She would admit. She had never learned to defend herself because her family never thought it would be needed to learn such. So, in an all, she felt pretty hopeless as her mind finally took time to think about it.

Juniper shook his head when she said she felt silly, "You are not the only one in this world who does not know how to protect one's self. We all start off defenseless and ignorant on how to protect ourselves from danger do we not? Do you think I was born knowing what to do with antlers? All you can do is learn." He smiled gently at her and said, "But at least while you are with me, I will try to protect you as best I can."

Juniper wondered if the mare would be able to protect herself from a Skinwalker. She seemed peaceful and delicate, and even if she had powers to protect her, would it be enough? Did she have the courage and inner-strength to stand up to them if she was cornered by them? Juniper shook such thoughts from his head, not wanting to picture anyone, let alone her, facing a Skinwalker without anyone else.

Juniper smiled and said, "Let's head to the shade first and see what I can find for you before we make any definite plans." He took one least cool sip of water from the river before he said, "I would just have to send word to the others who have land around mine that I will be gone for a period of time." he smiled, "They will look out for it while I am away." He was new to the area, but the other Cerynei were nice in this area and would understand the need. "I will do this while you rest. I will also gather some food for you to eat on as you do not know the area."

Irissa watched him for a moment, taking in his words. She glanced to her distorted reflection in the water, her ears shifting back and forth for only a moment before those soft green hues would turn back to the male with a sweet, almost slightly saddened smile, but she did well to hide it. After all, he was pretty reassuring.

"You are right. I will have to find someone of my kind who can teach me. One who is not trapped behind walls and boundaries to keep them safe." She allowed a soft snort to escape her before she lifted her head fully and turned from the water. Her tail flicked in a soft and tender sway as those eyes danced up and over the distance. "I do thank you for your help." She gave a soft laugh, showing that she had cheered slightly.

It would do her some good to get a little rest, her legs were a bit sore, but then again, she had already been traveling for a day or two. So, it was likely all that exercise. She only stopped to sleep or eat when she could, so it was rather hard to find free time to rest. Still, her mind kept running over this skinwalker, what where they like, and just how dangerous was one, or was it all just stories. She would though break her thoughts and would slowly make her way to the shade of the trees.

"What is the chance of us actually running into a skinwalker?" She asked in a quite curious, but slightly scared voice. It was dangerous, but maybe she could get the glimpse of one in the distance, to say she had seen one. She was already excited to meet her first Cerynei, and soon her first Wind.
