It was a very quiet night. The breeze pawed at the tall grass, and sifted through Hero's feathers. She shook her head in response to the tickly feeling. The day had been long and tiring for the half-gryph. She was just wandering aimlessly at this point, and the plains seemed endless! She leaned down and nibbled on some of the grasses. As much as she'd like to compare it to the desert, she had to admit, at least here you could eat the ground.

With a sigh, Hero folded her legs up and sat on the ground, all tucked up like any other horse hunkered down. At the height she was at now, the waving blades easily stood halfway up her flank.
Without knowing it, she blended into the scenery very well; the primary darkness of her body lended to easy night camouflage. Meanwhile, her feathers made her look more like an odd bush than anything else.

In the meantime, she looked up at the stars studding the sky. Her mother knew legends about them, but as far as she was concerned, they were just weird random dots speckling the night around her, not much different from the splotches on her pelt. Some said that stars move with the seasons, but she never paid enough attention to agree or disagree. Stars were just stars. They sure were pretty this night, though.

That's when the wind decided to pick up all of a sudden, and Hero harumph'd as it blasted and beat around her face. Rude.
