Eowyn was hot, dusty and big. Gel had forgotten how irriating the heat could be since he was last here; it was a willful forgetting; the place was not supposed to be inhabited, but there were vast treasures yet in its dusty folds; especially dragons.

The young swordsman adjusted the strap of his rather empty bag as he trudged across a vast empty landscape; a lifeless void if ever he'd laid eyes on such a place. Soudul was said to be a dark, vile place; but there was a sweet beauty to his homeland, deadly yes, but beautiful in its way. Eowyn had little to be proud of; sand and rocks.

He should have found a marker stone two days ago, if his cheap map was to be believed; but either he had missed it; the sandstorm had obliterated it, or he was lost. His dwindling water and food was looking pretty problematic too and he'd not found a single source of renewal for it. Just unbroken desert as far as the eye could see.

The grim reality facing him did make him nervous; it wasn't a good way for a fighter to die; dehydrated in the middle of no where, but his skill with a blade wouldn't help him with finding water and that was what it took to live in such a place.

He stumbled over a sand-dune, brushing sweat from his forehead and shook his head; gold earrings dancing in the morning sunlight. A sense of relief struck him as he spied a structure in the distance; a ranch. Oh, what insanity possessed someone to live so removed from civilisation in the reaches of the desert's belly? Still, hopefully, they had water.

The oblivionite regained his footing on the dune and pushed forward, no smile on his otherwise jolly face.

Note: Rae is NOT wearing his goggles, so hes pretty obviously not-an-orderite today

Mallew was in town for the day, and it was just Sonia and Raemos in the small cabin on the range. They had known the sandstorm was coming for a while, and had managed to maneuver the more delicate of their animals into the barn and shutter their windows, weathering it in the comfort and safte of home. They didn't have to worry too much: their kargoths and kugel were well able to survive a sandstorm, and their sheron were bred for desert life - hardy, if stupid, animals.

Raemos was helping Sonia with chores around the house. The cabin needed to be cleaned and preserves needed to be made and various other things needed to be prepared. And, being stuck inside and away from the raging sandstorm was the perfect time to do it. Raemos did not mind chores - he liked to spend time with his mother. He, after all, only had so much time left until his birthday, when he would be leaving her side for... whatever was out there.

The sandstorm had ceased beating at their walls and Sonia, always happy for real sunlight, was opening the shutters one by one while Rae finished the fruit preserves he'd been working on.

"Rae?" Raemos turned to look at her, the orderite woman he called 'Mother'. She was leaning out the window, looking at... something. "Rae, I think there's someone out there."

He joined her at the window, staring out into the hazy desert. Sure enough, a dark shape approached. "I see them." he said simply, registering the dark skin and hair of the approaching sillhouette. Oblivionite... or hybrid. He bristled slightly as he felt his mother give him one of her 'looks'.

"Rae, let him in! He must be parched after all that sand." she said. He wanted to tell her But mom, he's an oblivionite! or But mom, he's clearly dangerous! but Raemos knew that she wouldn't listen. Ever since his father had decided to kick him out, she'd only become more stubborn. There was no buts with her, or any arguing at all. She wanted this traveller inside and safe and he really had no say in the matter.

So Raemos sighed and did as he was told, walking out the door and towards the approaching Gellion. "Oi, you! Over here!" he called, waving the traveller over.

Sonia watched from the window, leaning against the sill and hiding a small smile.

Gellion hadn't noticed when the storm had kicked up again, sometime in the wandering through the blank landscape it had become unweilding, and he didn't like calling sandstorms storms at all; that implied there would be rain and there was no such relief in this forsaken land.

He was just wondering if the buildings he had spotted were a mirage in the distance when someone exitted one and started toward him; a few minutes of walking and he realized it was an Oblivionite. It didn't bother him if it was a Orderite priest at this moment, he'd take anything he could get.

Gel pulled to a stop as the other got closer, listening to the voice on the wind as he was beckoned over. With a small sigh, the warrior started forward, adjusting his pack as he went and brushing some of his normally neat hair from his eyes.

"Sweet water and shade upon you and your house." His throat was clearly dried to a husk, but he hacked out the greeting nonetheless, no smile accompanied his words, as Gel rarely smiled unless he was in a killing mood, but it was clear at a glance that the Oblivionite seemed leery of him. Gel shrugged as he followed the other obediantly; hoping for somewhere inside where they might be able to barter over some supplies and rations; namely water.

Gel had plenty of coin, but you couldn't eat gold.

I apologize for the mothering that Gellion is recieving.

Also, I'm sorry. Rae isn't normally this bratty I swear.

Raemos led the oblivionite to the door, though he didn't offer any help, aside from opening the door.

"In here." he said, making a face at Sonia.

The orderite lady looked over their guest with growing concern. "Oh Rae, look at him! He's positively bedraggled!" she quickly filled a cup from a water urn and offered it to him. "Here you go..." she said, sympathetically worried, "Poor dear. Rae, find something for him to eat." she said, waving vaguely at her son.

Raemos, had he had eyes, would have rolled them. He did not like this situation at all. But he did as he was told. "What should I get for him, ma?" he asked, looking over the meagre supplies that thye'd brought to the cabin for preserving. The sand that started to blow into the cabin - the herald of another sandstorm - meant that he couldn't go to the barn. He closed the shudders against the turbulent desert and looked to his mother, uneasy with how close she was to the potentially dangerous young man.

"Sit." said Sonia to Gellion, offering a chair. "Rae, get him some fruit.... something we haven't cooked up yet. That should help..."

Rae sighed, but he did as he was told. There was some remaining fruit, a few slices he'd been hoping to snack on and some of the remains from the ones they'd preserved. He brought them over on a plate and held them out. "Here." he said, clearly unhappily.

The warrior followed his host inside and paused at the threshhold, eyes adjusting to the interior of the small home while he brushed sand from his face. His eyebrow rose quizzically when it settled on the older Orderite woman who immediately set to bossing the Oblivionite boy around and fussing over him. While it seemed... non-threatening, he wondered how a weakling Orderite had gotten one of the Oblivionite young and turned him into her servant. Was she a sorcerer?

He took the offered water and sniffed it distrustfully for a moment, trying to figure out if the clear liquid held any sort of drug or alteration. There was nothing he could smell or see swirling in its depths so he took a small sip, nursing the sudden rush of cool moisture to his lips. A small, unguarded smile spread across his face as he was offered a chair and he inclined his head gratefully.

"A blessing from the dark lady herself, to find shelter in the storm. I have the coin to pay you for your generosity.
" He murmured lowly to them both, glancing from this 'Ma' to 'Rae' in clear misapprehension of their relationship. "And I do not judge, so you need not fear." He shrugged, he'd never found older women appealing, let alone older Orderite women, but whatever floated this clearly unsociable man's boat.

He let his travelling pack fall to the ground gently, taking the offered fruit with a bow of his head. He never rejected food. "My name is Gellion, but good chefs call me Gel."

And, with some ritual, he removed his sword belt and quite obviously placed it beside the pack, in a gesture of good will. He didn't bite the hand that gave food, either.

Sonia, being well versed in her son's behavior and quirks, quickly put a hand on his shoulder, squeezing tight.

Behave she seemed to say. What she really wanted him to do was leave the room and go to the barn and fetch her some meats to cook the nice young man, but the sandstorm was going strong again and she'd have to wait 'til a lull.

"Well," she said, hastily to keep Rae quiet enough for him to calm down, "We don't need coin..."

Yes we do. Thought Raemos, seething. To invoke the dark lady here? in his house? In front of his mother? How dare he! And just what did he mean by 'don't judge'?!

"... Just happy to help!" she said, squeezing his shoulder even tighter. behave or else I'll make your life miserable for a few days. she could do that. She was his mother. "Gel... I can call you gel, right, and have you trust my word that I'm a good chef, eh?" she laughed, "Well, I'm Sonia Valis and this is my son, Raemos Medrol." she gave him another shove. Say hello Raemos

"Mmmph." he grumbled. She shoved him again, a bit more obviously. "Hi." he said. He clenched his fists and unclenched them, "... I'm going to go finish the preserves, Ma."

"Yes. Go do that." she said, releasing his shoulder. It would at least keep him from being a little brat. Really. She hadn't raised him that way. Obviously Mallew's fault. she thought, not happily. "When the sandstorm dies down, I'll see about cooking up something." She was a little hungry herself, "In the meantime," she took his cup and refilled it, "You should drink more water. Its good for you."
