((Private RP between Kavuasi (myself) and Mpeka (Lightning Shadow X) - please don't post unless we ask you to.))

Kavuasi had spent a few days trapsing idly around the Firekin lands, reacquainting himself with everything he had left behind as a baby. Memories came rushing back to him; playfights in his family's den, the joy he felt when he saw his father's face, quiet naps curled against his mother's side... He had come close to crying a couple of times, but when he felt tears p***k at his eyes, he simply thought of Hestia, and what she would say if she saw him, and the tears dissapeared.

On this particular day, Kavuasi was circling around a peculiar rock that he hadn't seen before. It was about five hundred yards from his newest den, buried in the sand, with only the surface untouched by it. It was mottled black and brown, about twice his length, and about twice his width. Gingerly, Kavu placed one paw on it, drawing it back quickly as the sting of the heat bit through his paw's thick leathery padded bottom. He growled softly, then brought it up to his mouth and began to blow on it, his eyebrows furrowed. After a few moments of warily eyeing it, Kavu paced around it, twice clockwise, twice counterclockwise, then began covering it with the sand around it. Maybe that would cool it down, since the rock was so much hotter than the sand.

The day had been quite nice really, heated sun, no tresspassers, hell, she'd caught a slave a few day's back and he was doing alright...to her quiet kept relief.
She knew the boy was young, she'd never purposely harm cubs or juvenilles unless they attacked and he had.
Anyway, he was a slave now, end of thought.

Besides, something else had caught her eye now.

Kavuasi, this male had intruiged her from the beggining...but what on earth was he doing now?
Dark hued ear's perking forward curiously as he pushed sand atop a rock, only for her to smirk a little.
This should be fun.
Besides, she enjoyed his company...and his 'refreshing humour' as she so put it last time.

She walked out from behind the rock she'd made her hiding place, slender huntress build coming into view if he looked in the direction before she loudly, cleared her throat.
"Ahem!"

Kavu leapt about five feet in the air before crashing down, hair on his neck and back standing on-end. He hadn't seen, heard, or even smelt Mpeka drawing near; he had been far too concerned with cooling off the rock. Clearing his throat, he turned to face her, flashing her a sheepish grin before twisting his head around to frantically lick his back fur flat. His blue eyes twinkled with a mixture of relief and mirth, and as he sat, he curled his shaking tail around his paws.

"You'll kill all the Blood off that way, y'know. We'll all die of fright every time you come around." He spoke, his grin widening.

The lioness was deeply amused by his reaction, although didn't let anymore then a very held back chuckle and a slight snort pass her lips.
Only to clear her throat and returning to her calm, well bred...incredibly humoured, self.
She then gently padded toward's his side and smiled.

"Oh I wouldn't want to do that now would I! And I'd get into much trouble if I had frightened the King's brother to death!"

Some humour in her voice as she watched him, her white and black tail tuft twitching back and forth.
She debated on the next question...but saw no harm in asking.
"But...can I ask? Why are you covering this rock with sand hmm?"
Mpeka found it very curious behaviour...but then again...he was a very curious lion.

"Of course you can ask!" Kavu replied, chuckling. He let his gaze drift down towards the rock, then brought it up towards Mpeka again.

"I found it a few minutes ago, and... Well, I wanted to lie down on it, but... The sun's made it baking hot. I think it melted my paw's pad." He lifted his paw to show Mpeka the small patch of burnt skin. "The sand around it's cooler than the rock, so I thought maybe if I covered the rock with the sand, the sand would get some of the heat, and the rock would get cooler. It might not be cool enough to lie on, but even so, it's worth a shot... right?"

It seemed he was curious as to what Mpeka thought of his endeavour.

Mpeka's ears moved forward, dazzling golden eye's blinking softly as she listened.
The idea sounded...childish, but, in a way, it had wisdom to it.
Hell, it took a few hairbrained idea's to make something work afterall.
The lioness then nodded softly as he ended his sentance in a question.

"Ofcourse it is, plus it makes sense." She said, a small smile lighting her features while moving to a seated position beside him.

Damn, Mpeka must've been getting soft.
She'd never usualy act this way, not even around her brother...well...on a good day at least.
Besides, coming home must've changed her.

She then flattened her ear's slightly at the next sought out question, one that had been plagueing her since she heard the name uttered from his maw.

"If you don't mind me asking something again...but...who is this Hestia you spoke of?"

Kavu paused. He was curious as to how she had heard of Hestia, but... Well, he supposed it didn't matter. He smiled pleasently, searching for the right words.

"Hestia's a bird. A very large, very powerful bird. She carried me off when I was a cub, probably trying to make me think I was hers. I knew better, though. I came back here after I could get away from her." As he spoke, he lowered his head, feeling very foolish. Here he was, confessing that he hadn't been strong enough as a cub to beat off a simple bird! But he couldn't tell Mpeka that Hestia wasn't just a bird. She was a goddess, and she could've carried off a full-grown adult if she had wanted to.

"I guess that makes me weak, but at least I got to see some new things, right? And now i'm home, and i've got my folks back..." His ears flattened as he said this. "....except for mom and dad. But I didn't expect to find them here when I got back anyways."

Mpeka listened softly, eye's narrowing just a little bit before she took a small sigh and placed a small, half hearted smile on her maw, unlike his.

"I guess we share something in common then..."
The lioness moved gently, showing her back and the long scars that trailed from her shoulder and trailed of half way across her back.
No fur going over it as whatever caused them had pierced the skin.

"One day when I was a cub, my mother left me and my brother alone in the den, for some reason a huge buzzard flushed me out and grabbed me by the shoulders...it was hard to attack it...but when I did.."
She took a small breath, it was hard to find the correct words.
"...I had found I was far from home...I loved on small puddles of water and rodents until my brother came and found me...he lead me back home...sometimes misleading me for the way I treated him...but I deserved it..."
Her claws dug into the sand.
"I never really had a childhood because of that buzzard...so when I came back...I was probably the happiest I've ever been..."

The lioness turned back to Kavu', ear's perked as her bright eye's watched him.
Waiting for a reaction to this.

Kavu was speechless. It baffled him that this lioness before him could have had the same past as he - but no, theirs were different pasts. Where he was trained and nurtured, she was abandoned and in pain. She had suffered much more than he. His smile was gone. Silently, and with an expression of the greatest sympathy, he stood and pressed his nose to her forehead as a comforting gesture. He then sat once more, perking one ear up.

"T'least we're both back now, eh? With our own, and safe, 'cause no bird could touch us now. Thank Finar'si." He had to keep up the charade. The mentioning of the goddess at the end was done with as much enthusiam as he could muster, but deep down, he didn't much care for her.

Mpeka's ear's flattened back softly as she felt his nose touch her forehead and she took the kind gesture, looking up at him with a soft expression before nodding at his words, a small smile coming to her feature's again.

"True enough..." She said softly.

Yes, Finar'si always looked after them, their Godess was always there, in there blood, in there souls...in there hearts.
And she was glad Kavuasi was so understanding of her story.
But with this, she sort of lost herself and gently nuzzled into him before moving up and licking his cheek softly.

"Thank you for understanding Kavu..."

However, after a few moments of realising exactly what she had done just then, her ear's perked forward, eye's widening a little before she cleared her throat and tried to change the subject.
"So uhh...has the rock cooled yet?"

Kavu blushed brightly as Mpeka nuzzled into him, and the blush grew as he felt her tongue on his cheek. Since he had fur covering his face (thank goodness gonk he'd look weird if he didn't), it couldn't be seen, but the sheer embarrassment of having his cheeks feel so hot in front of her made him stutter.

"Y-yeah, um, the rock. Let's, um, I mean, i'll check it." He babbled, then stood, turning and padding over to the rock. Shaking his head to rid himself of the blush, he swept the sand away, gingerly placing a paw on it. He looked over his shoulder towards her, flashing her a grin.

"It's still hot, but it's not burning anymore." He stepped all the way onto it, then sat down, a gruff purr bouncing around in his throat as he felt the heat sink into his haunches. "Oooooohthat'sagoodrock."

Mpeka gave a big smile, thankful that he wanted to change the subject...that moment had been a little to social for the two.
No matter how nice.

She then gently padded closer to the rock and sighed softly, the heat was very pleasent.
The lioness then looked up at Kavu', a smirk coming to her features at his word's before she chuckled slightly.

"So I'll take it you like it also hmm?"
She asked in a playful manner.
Which was strange, because Mpeka rarely was playful around others, but he was different, he was a pride member.

"Yeeeees ma'aaaaaam." Kavu murred, rolling his shoulders back and grinning. He turned his head to look at her, motioning with one paw to the extra space on the rock.

"Pop a squat." He said, laughing at his own words. He was eager to keep her around - other than Kimeti and Kafara, and his parents, she was the only other Firekin he had met that didn't hate his guts. "There's plenty of room."

He hadn't expected their meeting at his return to blossom into the relationship they currently shared, but he was certainly glad it had.

The dark hued female blinked softly in surprise, no one had really offered her a seat next to them...then again, she supposed they where officialy classed as 'good friends' now.

Another smile lit her features before she gracefully moved onto the rock alongside him, fur standing on end before she gave a very pleased purr at the warmth on her backside.

"Mmmmmmm Thassa goooood rock!" She purred out, black and white streaked tail tuft flicking back and forth in a relaxed manner.

However in realisation at her loud, rather stupid sounding pleased outburst her ear's flattened back in an almost bashful look.
Which surpisingly looked cute, she used to do it as a cub before she was taken from the pride.

"*cough* Uhmmm...sorry, guess that sounded a little stupid huh?..." She asked him, bright yellow eye's watching his sky blue one's intently.

Kavu stared for a moment, then shook his head, his grin widening. He couldn't stop grinning around her - what was up with him?

"Naw. It was an appropriate response to a very nice feeling." And then, to cheer her up, he stretched himself out across his half of the rock, murring loudly and looking very silly as he made himself comfortable.

"Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmwarmrock. We should enslave all of the rocks and make them sit out here and stay warm for us." What the hell was he talking about? He wasn't even sure himself, but it sounded very silly, and he didn't want her to feel uncomfortable about what she had said any more.
