It was turning into a late spring and that suited the bear walker just fine. Today, she was buried under the snow near a place she had rather stupidly lost track of a target in. He'd been dead, he'd so nearly been dead, and she'd gone for a drink. And of course when she'd come back a damned angeni had found him.

Now, she was back, waiting under the snow for the stallion to give her a second chance. She'd mauled him badly, there was no way he would have healed enough to out run her with a surprise attack. Maybe, just maybe, if she was lucky she would have a shot at catching that angeni. Oh, and that would be a lucky day indeed. No more striped b***h poaching her kills. No more.

For Saskia, that day was simply a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She had just bid her goodbyes to her friends on her way out to see more of the world. They didn't expect her back any time soon. They wouldn't miss her. She didn't have the same aversion to the glade that Mencari did. If she had she may have avoided it that day and saved herself from the encounter.

As it was though, she paused right in front of the hidden bear walker, looking back as though she was waiting for someone.

"It's nice to be heading down these trails again," she said to no one in particular. "I never thought I would be staying there as long as I did. I'm glad I did though. I'll miss them..."

Semira was like Jenu in only one way. She wasn't sadistic or out for revenge. She wasn't ravenous, and she certainly didn't stink of death. She was, however, on the hunt for a male. Not any male, she wanted to find one she could lure back to her home. Preferably, he'd be healthy, handsome, and submissive. She didn't mind working a little for her captures, but today she was feeling a little lazy. A submissive stallion would mean she could take it easy and start on her way back home without a fight.

She paused to yawn, not wanting to wander off the beaten path and wind up knee deep in snow. Maybe that had something to do with her laziness that day, winter had never been her favourite season.

Jenu had been more than willing to let the strange mare wander by unscathed. She wasn't the one the bear walker was looking for, after all. No, there was a stallion, and an angeni.

Then the wind shifted, blowing her scent towards Jenu. That scent. She recognized it. This wasn't one of the horses she'd seen that day, but it was one of the ones who had helped the wounded stallion escaped. This scent had been the one that was mingled in with the smell of blood afterwards. She didn't know exactly what the mare had done, just that there had been no scent before, then after it was there.

She growled, fighting to hold herself back just a moment longer. She'd have her chance. The mare was alone. She just had to take a few steps forward.

When Semira caught sight of the bright orange figure before her she paused. The stranger was well built, healthy, but at this distance gender wasn't obvious. She squinted, slowing her pace as to better hide her steps from the stranger, just in case she would need the benefit of a silent approach, or hasty retreat.

Soon though, she heard the stranger speak. Female, undeniably female. She relaxed and resumed her regular pace. So this wouldn't be an end to her journey, but she always enjoyed the company of another mare. Assuming this one was friendly and open to having a temporary traveling companion then it was quite possible that the two of them would get along well.

"Greetings!" she called out as she stepped into the glade.

"Wait! It's far too cold. Let me ride on your back," Nidhogg said as he scurried into the clearing.

Saskia stopped, glancing back and forth at the two voices surrounding her. Nidhogg she had been expecting. The poor gator had troubles moving in the cold snow and she'd only so far denied him a ride due to his frustrating habit of biting at her mane when he thought he was about to fall off.

The other voice, though, was unexpected, but pleasant sounding. She turned her head to face it as Nidhogg reached her back legs.

"Lay down," he said, lifting a foreleg to paw at her fetlocks.

She obliged, watching the stranger walk out into the clearing. "Greetings," she said, returning the greeting. "It's not too often I see gryphs around here."
