Lost.

He was embarassed to say it.. but he had been lost for several days now.

The rainstorm had caught him completely off-guard, lost what little trail he had made to get him back to the camp, and since then had mostly been wandering around aimlessly. It was a big island. But it was still an island. Vasile knew he would eventually run into someone else.

Surprisingly, he had made it on his own fairly well. He long ditched Ambrose's underwear, more a manner of principle than anything else, but they had been getting rather funky. So, despite the fact that he was completely naked, he managed to hold his own.

He ate a lot of fruit, mostly mangos. There were plenty of other fruits and berries he found, but he didn't know what they were, so he didn't risk trying to eat them. On the third day, Vasile did something he will never. EVER let slip on to anyone for any reason: he ate bugs. He came across a small termite (or something) mound, Small, relatively innoculous, crunchy bugs. He had seen enough survival movies to know that he needed protien - and insects were a good source of it. He ate several, as many as he could choke down. They actually weren't that bad.... but his pride had taken a wound that might never heal.

The rains brought him plenty of water to drink, and he climbed trees to stay in at night for safety, and to keep him out of the mud.It distrubed him that his sense of smell helped him get fruits and water, and his ears could pick out the tiniests of sounds. It was by following his nose he found the village.

He never thought he'd be happy to see that place. Vasile had no idea what time it was, sometime in the evening, and the cafeteria lady had long left. But it was always stocked with cerial, fruit, microwavable pizzas, and other such foodstuffs that the islanders could prepart themselves. He had in the empty room binging like a bulemic. He wondered how long it had been back up, but at the moment he didn't care.

Afterwards, of course, he spent abuot three hours in the shower...the glorious shower!!! He picked, washed, and brushed every inch of him. Every toenail, every strand of hair - human or... other. He got out once, dried off, found himself still feeling dirty, and got back in. He never thought he'd get all the grime off him.. but eventually he did and stretched and rolled around on his clean bedsheets naked for a while.

He didn't mean to, but he ended up falling asleep, and didn't wake up until almost twelve hours later. By now it was late afternoon, or early evening, and it just began to sink into him that many of his friends might be worried about h im. Or still lost. Ambrose and Cass were the two forefront on his mind. Pulling on some clean clothes (and for the first time in his life not caring abuot the label inside), Vasile rushed over to Cass's duplex and knocked on the door.

Cassidy was vaguely surprised at the knock. People didn't, after all, usually come to see her. There was nothing wrong with that, and it was certainly nothing new, either.

But still, company was always nice.

She set down her book, got up slowly as she tended to do, and made her way to the door. "I'm coming," she called. Her own slowness could be agonising at times.

Opening the door, Cass burst into a broad grin. "You're okay!" she cried in relief, and went to fling her arms around Vasile's neck.

Vasile's face broke into a wide grin, having sorely missed the company of other "human beings," especially her. Needless to say, their serious relationship had gotten off to a pretty rocky start. He gladly welcomed her embrace, slipping hsi arms around her waist and squeezing her firmly to him.

He slid his hands up to her face and held it there, giving her a glance over before stealing a passionate kiss in the doorway, feeling his tail take a few happy swishes behind him.

"I've missed you!" he said with a chuckle. "How long have you been back here?"

"A... a few days, I guess." Cass shook her head in disbelief. "Don't tell me you really have been out there all this time? I was wondering... if we should start up a search party or something."

She squeezed him back tightly. It was awful to think of Vasile out in the jungle while she had been enjoying a clean bed and hot food.

"But I am so glad you're in one piece." Cassidy's smile took on a sudden bashful hint.

"I don't know what happened... the damned rainstorm, it got me completely turned around. But I figured I had to end up somewhere eventually. Being this is an island and all...."

At the one peice comment he smiled down at himself, patting his tummy which had sadly lost a lot of definition. "Mostly. I know this might sound weird, but I'm kind of, I dunno, proud of myself. I think if anyone guessed which crankjob here would be least likely to survive out in the wilderness it would probably be me."

He kissed her check adn stepped into the Duplex and sat down on the bed, pulling Cass to sit down beside him. "What happened here? Do you now? Are... you know...they back?" he asked with a sideglance to the camera.

"I would think they would have to be back." Cassidy grimaced, and laid her head on Vasile's shoulder. She had missed this. "If anyone's found anything out, they haven't thought to tell me. Everything's running again, pretty much, so someone must be up there. I can't imagine it's all just running itself."

Not knowing was probably her own fault, if there had been answers. She was such a shut-in at times.

"I think you should be proud of yourself. You made it out, you're okay, you didn't starve to death or fall off a cliff." She laughed, softly. "I would have ended up just curling up somewhere and falling asleep."

"I was worried about you," he said, playing with a lock of her hair. "I mean, not that you're not a capable woman, but uh, well, you know..." he stuttered a bit, hoping he hadn't offended her, motioning to her legs.

He cleared his throat and changed the subject. "You, uh, haven't seen my dog have you? He wasn't trapped in my room... do you think he might be okay?" There was a surprising amount of worry in his voice.

Cass made a bit of a face; the present state of her legs was something she really preferred to forget. "Well. I made it out on my knees, well enough. I got my fake legs back. I never thought I'd be so glad to see them."

At his second question, she looked at him for a moment, puzzled. "Your dog?" For a brief moment, she had the frightening thought that one of the other islanders, one further along, might have gotten hungry and desperate... but, no! None of them would do that, right?

She hoped not.

"I haven't seen him. I'm sorry. I bet you he's okay, though. He must be around somewhere."

"Yeah, I mean, he's not in my room.. which means he's probably out there somewhere. Just he has less survival instincts than I do." He gave a forced chuckle and waved him hands.

"Anyway..." he looked back into her eyes and swallowed, getting more serious. "I know, uhm, the whole being locked out kind of ruined something that was susposed to be, ah, you know. Special or whatever. We never had a chance to really talk about what happened..." he smiled gently. "Wow, it seems like it happened so long ago. .. are you, ah, okay?"

Cassidy laughed. "That was the worst timing for us, wasn't it? I think your clothes might still be around here, somewhere."

That had only just occurred to her; she certainly hadn't properly looked.

"I'm fine, though. I'm okay. It's... well, I guess I've gone from one phase of my life to another." She smiled, squeezed his hand gently. "I seem to be doing that a lot lately. But I have no regrets. Of course I don't."

Vasile smiled gently, looking more releived than he probably should. "I'm glad," he said, rubbing the back of her hands with his thumb. "Maybe... I could stay here tonight? And wake up here, hopefully, instead of out in the middle of the woods."

Cass smiled and ducked her head; the tip of her tail was twitching, though she was certainly not aware of this.

"I'd like that," she said. "But seriously, if I wake up in a tree again, I'm taking it as a sign from God."

She laughed and snuggled closer.

He laughed. "Okay, deal. If you end up in a tree again when we'll just have to assume some high power as a problem with us being together."

He continued to stroke her hair. "But I really hope that doesn't happen."

He snuggled close and smelled her hair. "Do we know what happened? Or why? I mean... isn't it bad enough that we're here... being experimented on. What was that about? A mistake? A trick?"

"I really don't know," Cass said. She was enjoying the close contact immensely. "I don't know anything more than when I was out in the jungle. There was a chopper crash, people apparently died in it, and we got turned out. Maybe I missed some announcement or something. Considering everything was shut down for so long, I suppose that it was back up and running quite quickly, once it started." She frowned thoughtfully.

Vasile's tail twitched in annoyance. "Thats... so strange. Gah, this whole thing is so... confusing. I'm actually homesick, you know. Not for Hollywood or anything, but for home." He shook his head. "I've never been homesick. I just... I don't know what I'm saying."

He sighed. "What do you think they are going to turn me into?" He looked down on his claws. "Ambrose said maybe a dog. I'm worried I'm going to turn into a Poodle or something." He fiddled with his hair that was turning white. "Or a maltese. Ya know..because of Brutus. Seems like something he might do."
