~::The Kids Who Leaped Through Time::~
(Inaba Hilltop - 3:25 PM, After School. September 13, 2012)

In the morning hours over the skies of Okina City at the heart of the Supernatural Hotbed, a gaping, black hole opens...and from within, an unknown number of lights streak down from above, scattering all across the region...figures of unknown origin, unknown make-up, a mystery as true as there ever was...and behind them came the dark, streaks of blackness following behind the lights, dogging their movements in each direction...again, scattered. Where they came from is unknown, and what sort of events their arrival may portend remains a mystery to the few who bore witness to the strange phenomenon in the wee hours of the morning. However, one thing is abundantly clear; something strange is happening in the Supernatural Hotbed, and while that's not entirely unusual for the region, there's something that feels...eerie about the arrival, particularly in the darkness that followed them through the portal that opened itself in the sky. Something wrong...unnatural...but what awaits for those who dare to investigate the phenomenon is a strangeness that must be seen to be believed.

A hope sent out across time and space...the future...

...

One of the streaks of light and dark crashed atop the Inaba Hilltop during the lunch hour of September 13th...what awaits, however, remains known only to those who dare to discover...

The Corrupted Mihawk

The fault of the world twisted and cracked, an image similar to glass breaking appearing on the hilltop. Suddenly the air shattered and out stepped a once mighty swordsman reduced to nothing more than a poisonous blade, one that would surely kill but that lacked all the finesse of it's former self. Mihawk had been caught by the corruption of their sorrowful future, and now the darkness had used it's vessel to pursue the children back through time before they could undo it's victory. The flesh on his sword hand seemed to crawl as the darkness snaked through his body, a small twitch causing the appendage to move. "..."He'd been moments away from claiming Inigo's life when the portal had opened, and determined to see their duel finished, he'd followed into the light without hesitation. The Akarana Corridor was no place to be taken lightly, but he'd passed through it under the guidance of the Dark, letting it illuminate his path...and now the dark had shone him the way to his prey once again, a world where he could finish Inigo once and for all, and put to bed the last vestiges of humanity...solidifying the rule of the Corruption once and for all, as it used this new passage to spread it's influence throughout all of space and time.

"Ohhh..This is bad. This is bad. This is bad bad baaaad." the summoner called, as she reach to grab at her staff, raising is up. "Ini~Go!.. Someone got through. And he looks like one of them."
Not that he'd need to be told that. They'd fought so many throughout the years, it was easy to tell at a glance when there was one after them. Though, this one in particular seemed a lot more...dangerous. She couldn't quite tell just by looking at him what about him just...unnerved her, but she knew there was going to be a fight, either way.
"Come on out, Seth!" she called, as she brought up her staff in a pose, while her other hands worked a tube, the giant black dragon emerging in a flash, and standing by her other side ominously. It was a gift from her mother..even long after she'd stopped practicing summoning. He was big....scary....and could be mean....
He'll be perfect for fighting this guy! she thought with a grin, before she held out her staff.
"I'll try to cover you, Inigo." she called, as a surge of wind twisted, turned, and surged towards the Corrupted swordsman, aiming to do some damage to him, while her dragon used it's power to make sure the wind would get though, breaking any resistance to the Element the corrupted might have had. It'd be tough, but she could do it! For her friends...her Family...and because the past was already looking like a great place to have fun!

Inigo Tsukira Shimazu, the Shimazu Sword Sage
"Respect yourself, respect your enemy, respect your sword..."

His arrival out of the rift in time was smooth, but he had gotten used to landing on his feet over the years. If there was one thing that his father had taught him, it was that no matter how difficult it might seem, no matter how hopeless you were...in battle, in love, in life...that if you could land on your feet and recover you could jump right back on the horse and try again. Zoro had taught him the same when he was studying the sword; Sensei had taught him the same when learning to shape steel. One wrong stroke wouldn't ruin a blade; it might take hours to fix the stroke but nothing was impossible for the swordsmiths of the Shimazu Clan. They had taught him, and he had believed in them...just as his mother had believed in them. Now, with all of their thoughts inherited by his own heart, he had leaped across the threshold of time and space to right what had once gone wrong in this world. Landing on his feet was only natural; the hard part came thereafter, doing what needed to be done, finding a place in this new world, deciding whether or not to contact his parents in this time...but before that there was something else. He could instinctively feel it...the other presence nearby. It was a familiar presence, the sort of electricity that passed at the meeting of two men who had given their lives to the art of the sword...and Corruption. His eyes raised past the girl with the headphones and he saw what had her panicking, holding her staff up in defense, and he knew in an instant that it was much worse than 'bad'.

"It's been a long time, Mihawk," his voice was calm, but there was a powerful edge to it, serious, determined, a greeting between men of the sword...and something more, "It wasn't enough that you killed Sieg and ruined Satsuma...or that you killed Zoro on the road to find my friends. Now your sword would corrupt even this world and end the line of the Shimazu once and for all?" His stern voice did not waver as he drew twin blades, connected by a thin cord and lined with talismans...his eyes found the empty, soulless husks of Mihawk's and though he knew that in terms of pure skill he was outmatched, he wasn't alone...nor was he without the memory of his family to guide him. "In honor of the true warrior you once were, and in memory of the family you've taken from me," he ground out, steel scratching against steel as he prepared for the life-or-death struggle to come, "To spare this world your Corruption, we will put an end to you...here...and now."

He fell into his stance as easily as he breathed; he lived and died this stance, this style, these swords. Sensei, Zoro, Kenshi, Sieg, mother, father...he wouldn't die here and let their trust in him be in vain!

"Keep distance, Dolus," he commanded, knowing that for all her capability fighting in close-quarters with Mihawk was something only he, amongst their friends, could likely do...and even that was a losing proposition, "and take every opening. In all the years of my family's challenging this man, not one Shimazu has ever beaten him alone. I need you sharp, understood?"

...

Things were about to get messy.

The Corrupted Mihawk

There was a small twitch of acknowledgement as Inigo called out to Mihawk, his head turning in a bit of a jerking motion to glare at the odious Shimazu. As the corruption spread up his body he'd used what time he had left to seek out and eliminate the Shimazu one by one, searching for the greatest swordsmen in the land; the deaths of powerful warriors like Sieg and Zoro had been the final conscious acts of his waning life. But in the end, none had been his equal, and his disappointment had only furthered the spread of corruption, until finally his consciousness was gone, given in to the insatiable darkness. But seeing the young Shimazu brought something back; maybe not the mind of the once proud warrior Mihawk, but at least a bit of the fire that had once fueled his peerless blade. "This reprieve from death...is no accident. The Corruption has granted it...so that I may kill you, and cement my legacy in the ashes of this new world...for all time." Mihawk's voice was hollow, and lacked the soul that had once invigorated his sparse remarks. Though the thoughts may have been his, they were echoed through a voice choked with corruption, and at his core the corruption threatened to drown any semblance of humanity Mihawk still had, if he were foolish enough to show it. He was a doll beyond repair, and the only reason he spoke was because he was allowed his utterances. "I slew your kinsmen...in droves. Two...three...thirty at a time. Your numbers are meaningless. Simply...approach me, with the intent to kill."

Mihawk raised his blade, it's once silvery sheen now covered in a slithering darkness, the edges still protruding from beneath worn and cracked from the countless lives it had taken without proper care. It was no longer a swordsman's weapon, only the tool of a hunter; good at tearing and reaping but long bereft of a seamless kill. The darkness began to stretch and pull away from the blade, forming into spikes which hung in the air in a circle around the weapon; and then with a surge of power the spikes shot outwards, scattering around the battlefield. "And be destroyed!" The spikes crashed into the ground all over, jutting undulating blades in every direction, as much a threat as the ones that hurled towards Inigo and Dolus herself. In the past Mihawk would never have resorted to such staged tactics, and would have met his foes with only the ferocity of his fighting style...but those days were gone, along with the Shimazu, the heroes of the past, and even the undefeatable First Lance of the Mori himself.

Dolus paused as the strange, corrupted man gave a challenging eye towards them. She braced herself at first, before feeling the Corrupted Caltrops at her heels, poking and hitting at her feet.
"A..Ah..Ahh..Owwwww." she called, trying to manuver despite them. "I..Inigo...Be careful...aha." she called, before holding the staff high, her foot sliding back into another pained spike, before sending out a burst of Wind. It hurt, but that was the only way she could attack.
"S..Seth! A..A.Attacccccck!" she called as well, wincing in pain...But still trying to go strong, her body starting to tense up in Anxiety, as her fears started to well up inside her.
Around this time, Seth flapped it's wings viciously, a surge of Wind starting to burst out, aiming to try to both blow away the Caltrops, and to strike at Mihawk himself. The Large Dragon started to bring itself up into the air. A loud roar could be heard coming from it, as it stared down at the foe before them...The Shell of a once great man..

Inigo Tsukira Shimazu, the Shimazu Sword Sage
"Respect yourself, respect your enemy, respect your sword..."

In the history of his battles, the great swordsman Mihawk had always been a man of honorable repute. He fought to the death with a ruthless fortitude, but never had he ever seen need to employ techniques beyond those of his own sword. He was peerless, deadly, and powerful beyond any man to hold a blade within this era; the very idea that he would use tricks like caltrops and darkness would have made him laugh at best or sick and insulted at worst. Now in this wretched form that the Corruption had given him his very first move in the battle was to launch dark spikes, spikes that Inigo could only try to block without being entirely successful. The mere surprise of such a technique coming from this man was enough to see the spikes tear at his side and his cheek, blood trickling from either wound slickly, but not thickly, showing that the damage hadn't been entirely destructive. No, this was nothing in comparison to what either of his true blades could accomplish if he were focused. Wasting no time then, Inigo drew forth his twin blades and let them change, shimmering with power as he inched forward to carefully avoid as many of the dark caltrops as he could...until at last he had allowed himself to come at the outermost range of the swordsman's weaponry. From there, there could be no hesitation.

One blink, one momentary lapse, and death was all that remained.

...

He could not die here.

"I know better than any that numbers won't stop you," he bit out harshly, the memory of his fallen family still fresh inside his mind, "Only skill...only a true defeat is suitable." His feet shifted, his blades curved into position...and as the ferocity settled completely into the eyes of the Sword Sage his composed demeanor began to fade for a mere moment, that release of all the emotion that was stored up inside of him looking into the eyes of the man who helped destroy his family. Even he, collected and filled with the teachings of his family as he was, could not help but wear his pain upon his sleeve. This was more than just a fight...it was retribution. "But...resorting to tricks like this is beneath you. I suppose even victory here won't grant you true solace. As it should be," he whispered, his blade beginning to glow before settling back into its colorless state, "Lightning, become my blade!" In a flash he crossed the sword's length between them and struck, twin jittes thrusting and then slashing in a perfected two-strike motion! Their power was immense, amplified by the pure skill of the sword technique he had mastered.

"In the name of my family, I will kill you here and now," he cried out with each strike, his body tense and ready for the retribution sure to come. In such close range, parrying and blocking and movement were crucial to avoid any fatal blows. He had walked into the den of the beast now...the only way out was death...or victory. "And I will put your swordsman's soul that cries out in pain to rest!"

The Corrupted Mihawk

"A fight..."

The sword swung over the westerner's shoulder to meet Inigo's blade as he approached, the second slash of the flurry cutting into the side of his stomach. A liftetime ago Mihawk never would have allowed such a wound, but this tattered puppet didn't have any of the sharpness that the old swordsman had. In it's place however, there was a new form of cruelty and power, one that disgraced the legacy of Mihawk but made him a nightmare for people like Inigo. The Corruption began to bubble up Mihawk's blade suddenly, threatening to jump across and onto Inigo's own weapon and spread to entangle arms and anything else it might. Mihawk suddenly thrust forward, using his enormous strength to send Inigo skidding backwards even as the Corruption jumped across the distance, attempting to reach him but falling short as it splashed along the ground and linked back to the blade, like a tangle of pitch black spider webs.

"...finally!" Mihawk threw back the sword with tremendous force, holding the blade above his head and behind with a single hand. The pupils of his eyes had returned briefly, but now they vanished within a sea of darkness as the Corruption spread through his flesh, and with a mighty twist of his body the swordsman swung the lump of a sword around him, unleashing a battering barrage of slices in a 360 degree perimeter. He hadn't forgotten about the little girl nearby, even if she had already succumb to the infectious nature of the Corruption and was teetering on the brink of a true plague; and if the Corruption could make Inigo squirm and falter by putting one of his teammates in harm's way as well, then it would take every available opportunity to make the Shimazu inheritor's nightmare a reality.

Dolus braced herself, flinching before Mihawk could even start to strike, the slashes cutting into her weakened, fearful state...If also weaker themselves. The real Mihawks strikes would have been swifted...More vicious...and more frequent. They still hurt all the same, and as she quivered, she still had to fight her own anxieties.
"C..Come on Inigo..." she called, starting to focus her energy. "We...we can't...Lose!"
Her hands started to glow with a light, as she prepared, before thrusting her hands forward, her heels digging into another caltrop as she sent out a burst of light towards the shadowy swordsman.
Seth, on the other hand, took the slashes, before starting to beat his wings again, aiming to blow away the caltrops still, and deal some major damage to the Corrupted swordsman. Or at the very least, create an opening for their partner in this fight..

Inigo Tsukira Shimazu, the Shimazu Sword Sage
"Respect yourself, respect your enemy, respect your sword..."

He had drawn blood; in all the battles between Shimazu and the swordsman Mihawk, this was the first time since Sieg had met him during the siege that he could remember anyone drawing the blood of the greatest swordsman of their age. Even as he was now, he knew that he wasn't a match for his late Great Uncle when it came to swordplay. Should he be thankful that such a great swordsman was lacking his usual skill, or should he be sad to see such a warrior reduced to this shell that he lumbered around in now? He didn't have time for either, as it turned out. A lash of slashes assaulted him swiftly and without remorse...the corruption from within Mihawk seeking to crawl up his blade and infest him as it must have the man himself. If he hadn't been trained the way he had, he might have panicked...the sight of something so deadly seeking to taint his sacred blades might have made him waver and fall, but they did not. Whipping his blade to the side, he forced the crawling Corruption aside before it could plant its roots in what belonged to him, but the distraction was enough for Mihawk to throw him...just out of the path of another lash of the ooze that sought to infect him.

'Did he just...?' he thought as he watched the color return to the man's eyes just for a moment, trying to grasp if that saving throw from the infection had been intentional while falling back into his normal pose. The assault of slashes hadn't left him unmarked, but the blade he wielded had not pierced him deeply enough to infect him with its crawling sickness. Still, Dolus might not have been so lucky, and the thought of her becoming infected did indeed strike a small terror into his chest. They needed to end this fast, but how did you beat a man faster, even as a shell, when no other man had ever beaten him at all? "Lightning, become my blade..." he spoke out the incantation that drew out his weapon's power; lashing forward without hesitation, he brought the fight that his enemy so desperately wanted back to him immediately, hoping to keep his attention focused on his main opponent for the time being, 'I know that, Dolus...we will not lose. I will not falter. My father...my mother...Kenshi, Zoro, Sensei...Sieg...they did not raise me and keep me alive this long for me to die here!'

He knew that this level of attack wasn't going to be enough. To finish this, he would have to reveal his trump card to the swordsman. It was likely a one-shot move; he doubted a technique Mihawk had seen once would work again, even as he was now. But he had to try it...had to find the moment. Maybe if Dolus...and Seth...could stun him, just for an instant...he could...?

The Corrupted Mihawk

". . ." There was no more speech from the swordsman, the veil of humanity the Corruption had used to cause Inigo to hesitate now gone. Mihawk prepared to unleash himself upon them again when a barrage of light spears and a tornado of wind struck at him. The first pierced the figure straight through the chest, a hole opening in the right side big enough to end most fights instantly; however the swordsman recovered in an instant, knocking the other two strikes left and right, and delivering a powerful counter slash to the wind that send the magarudyne nearly crashing into Inigo. He'd adapted to the light spells impressively fast, and the wind and Inigo's lightning blade he'd already seen before. It was already changing it's fighting style, learning how to fight them masterfully. And in the large hole in Mihawk's chest, black threads began to spread back and forth like a web spinning itself, sealing the wound to prevent MIhawk from succumbing to the blows. In the past, the swordsman had been proud of his wounds, not one to bandage them away and cling to whatever dark power could help him survive. But now the Corruption gave him no choice...it would not let such a valuable swordsman die, one so capable of destroying the resistance.

". . ." The swordsman waited as Inigo dodged the wind, and closed in with his lightning blade; meanwhile his shadow seemed to dance at his feet, building behind the warrior's back. He could see the determination in the Shimazu's eyes, and as he finally reached sword-striking distance the Corrupted figure smirked. Suddenly darkness shot out from behind Mihawk, a wave of black tendrils meant to surround and devour the young Inigo once and for all; and in the middle Mihawk raised his sword to deliver a decisive blow to his opponent. ". . .ha!" With a determined shout the sword swung down, towards the captured Shimazu, with the intention of cutting him in two; but the blade went just wide of it's mark, severing the black tendrils to Inigo's right and ruining the snare of the Corruption. The swordsman turned, swinging his blade in a horizontal sweep towards Inigo as his power flashed again, unleashing a barrage of slashes to make up for the failure to eliminate him in one swift blow.

Dolus blinked as the swordsman knocked away two strikes of her Light spell, and parry Seth's enormous wind. She shook for a bit, the tales of the swordsman's skill not having been exaggerated in the slightest. Even as taken by the corruption as he was..He could still fight as well as he had...
Even as the physical force slammed into her, she gripped her weapon tightly, and found the resolve to keep standing, and not run away. No...She had to keep going....She had to help Inigo. She had to.....
"Seth! plan B!" she calleed, as she started forward, whipping out her staff, and sending out a surge of Wind, as she started closer towards the Corrupted Mihawk. However, ,as she did, a looming shadow would start over them....Flowing over to Mihawk....Before Seth's Enormous, Dragonic figure would aim to very much Crash down, and Land on the corrupted swordsman. Though it was unlikely to do much, if Mihawk would have to change his focus for even the slightest of seconds....for even the sharpest of moments, It would give Inigo his chance...
At least, that's what Dolus hoped for.
