"Is it really necessary to bring her along every time we go out?" Oblivion griped as he glowered at the flashy vlidean flying only inches beneath Sam's wing. The Diabi was fairly certain he was engaged in some kind of competition for attention with the blue creature. Both of them wanted Sam's undivided attention, and neither were satisfied with what they had. Oblivion didn't mind pets. They had their merits, y'know, if you were a lonely Khehora. But Sam wasn't anymore! Levi was with him now! So surely he didn't need this fluttery animal tagging about with them everywhere. He scowled at the creature, who he swore gave a dismissive flick of her tail at him.
Sam could only roll his eyes. "Azure has never given me a reason not to bring her along, unlike some Khehora..." The Gaili informed his companion tartly, with a crisp look of annoyance cast over his shoulder at Oblivion. "Besides, look at her. She needs to get out and stretch her wings! Poor little thing can't stay cooped up all the time." He purred, delicately raking a claw down her spine in affection. She chirped delightedly in agreement and purposely flew closer at his side.
Oblivion tried not to simmer in annoyance as he glided up to take up a post near the other Khehora's side. If he was able, he would've flicked that little vlidean right out of the sky, but as it was, he was sure that would only incite the Gaili's anger. "I completely understand that you want this little one to be well-cared for, but maybe sometimes... I just want to be with you." He purred, letting his feathered tail-tip flick across Sam's haunches. "And if you're worried about making sure she doesn't flee or get snatched away by something else-" If only, good Abronaxus, "-it does make it difficult to... Just... be with you, y'know?" He probably would've tolerated any other creature, but the vlidean held a special place of distaste in his heart.
The larger Khehora's emerald orbs widened, and his head whipped around to stare at Levi. "W-we are together! You're with me right now! Don't say such foolish things!" Sam commanded with a huff, snapping his gaze away. Levi was just so... ridiculous sometimes! There was no way Azure was really hindering any bonding time they may have! Stupid Diabi... Didn't know what he was saying...!
Oblivion couldn't help the way a tremor of amusement wriggled down his spine. He did so much enjoy seeing a flustered Sam, after all. Even if the Gaili was rather blush-prone to begin with, at least where the Diabi was concerned. With a hum of amusement, he scaled backward a bit, giving Sam and his vlidean friend a bit more space. they were just on a little hunting trip. And Levi wasn't feeling particularly famished, so... Maybe there was time for just a little game? Nothing too strenuous or time consuming, just something for a little excitement... Sam probably wouldn't like it...
Oblivion wiggled his rump, then shot forward, crashing his body into the much heftier Gaili and ripping them both out of the sky. Sam yelped in alarm as his wing crashed down on Azure, causing her to shriek and spiral out from beneath him. Samael growled and thrashed his wings, struggling to get Levi off of him before they hit the dirt, but to no avail. The Diabi remained firmly plastered to his back, his limbs preventing Sam from getting enough air under his wings to get him airborne again. Instead, they smashed to the ground. Sam landed with a loud thump and a wheeze as Oblivion forced the air from his lungs by landing rather comfortably atop him. Had they been flying any higher, the Gaili undoubtedly would've broken a few ribs on the landing, soft sand be damned. A few paces off, Azure shook out her fur and feathers in annoyance, but she seemed alright otherwise.
When Sam felt heated breath ghosting over the back of his neck and a feathery muzzle reaching down to rub his cheek, he genuinely considered snapping right into Levi's eye. Teach him a lesson... He settled for snarling and giving the Alihora a lash with his tail. "What are you doing?!" He demanded hotly. "You could've hurt us!"
The Diabi hummed in amusement and nuzzled his maw against Sam's neck, far out of range of those snapping teeth. "But I didn't." He cooed remorselessly. Now the over sized Gaili was focused on naught but him, the stinking vlidean long forgotten. Even if Sam wasn't particularly amused by it... "Oh, c'mon, Sam. What's a little playtime between friends? You've been in that lonely cave with just a few animals to keep you company, so why not- Ouch!" Levi yipped, jolting away from where he'd felt the heat of flame brush against his feathers.
"I didn't do anything!" Sam hissed harshly. "Stop yelling in my ear!"
"I'm not yelling at you." Levi griped, whipping his head around to stare behind him. His ruby orbs met with the only the shadow of a... two-legger? The glare of the sun kept him from seeing finer features, but whatever it was definitely stood on two legs. And had strange, misshapen horns, and... a tail? He didn't know of any two-legged race that looked like that. Poor thing must be deformed. Maybe some kind of... Dovaa Khehorian. "That thing. It burned me." Oblivion informed his Gaili companion as he clambered from atop Sam's back so the larger Khehora could see their opponent.
At the mention of something else behind them Sam jumped to his feet and whirled around to glare at the new aggressor. The instant he locked eyes with it, it raised it's hand... Sam through his weight into Levi, knocking both of them out of range of the spear it chucked their way. "Whatever it is, it wants a fight!" The Gaili quipped, baring his teeth at the creature. Now that he'd knocked them out of the sun's glare, he could see the strange red beast a little better. It certainly wasn't any type of Dovaa of Khehorian he'd ever seen, but he thought he remembered hearing something of strange two-legged creatures living in the mountains. And this strange thing must be one of them. It wielded blade and magic, something many Magescians were hardly capable of. The Gaili suddenly longed for his scythe once more. Maybe he'd return home and grab it soon.
The creature had tossed its only weapon away in a failed shot at spearing Sam and now stood empty-handed, glaring at them. With a huff, it uttered some chattering noises, and from a few nearby rocks two more of the creatures emerged. Sam growled in response. They were only outnumbered by one. The red two-leggers weren't particularly large, and they didn't seem to have great aim. Sam was pretty sure he could take them, if they really wanted to challenge him. The three creatures assembled, forming a tiny triangle. Sam roared out his challenge. And then the things were diving toward him. Two of them still had their weapons. They led the charge eagerly, darting forward and slashing at the Gaili for all they were worth.
The Gaili leaped forward into the fray, his spat with his Diabi companion long forgotten as his teeth crunched into one of his attacker's arms. He was only vaguely aware of Levi shooting forward to take on a second one before it could slash its blade into Sam's hide. The big Gaili lifted his target from the ground, fangs still locked around the darvithri's arm. It squirmed and fought, lashing out with fire (but it wasn't very effective...) and limbs as it struggled to free itself. Sam wouldn't let it have any of that. He gave the strange creature a powerful shake, ripping its slender arm clean from its torso. Howling, it fell to the ground in a pool of blood. Sam dove for its throat to finish it.
No sooner had he finished then a weight landed on his back. The feel of fingers burning into his neck caused Sam to roar and buck. He eventually flopped down heavily on his side, rolling onto his back to crush the pitiful creature beneath the muscled weight of his hard body. He heard an alarmed shriek, followed by the disgusting sound of blood being squeezed out of flesh. When he rolled back to all fours, the creature lay flattened and unmoving.
Meanwhile, Levi battled the last one. He was not as large as Sam, nor did have have as much training and experience. But he was quick and agile. He weaved between the darvithri's slashes with ease, being extra careful not to let the blade dishevel any of his glorious feathers. His powers of the night didn't bode as well in the daytime or against an opponent who could cast spells of fire and create his own light, but what did he need magic for when he had teeth and claws that were just as powerful?
Oblivion lunged forward, snapping up the whole of the little beasts head in his maw. Only its long red ears peeked free, and the rest of its body, of course. For one brief moment, the darvithri was rigid as a rock, confused and alarmed by Levi's form of attack. Before it had the chance to spear the Diabi with its blade, Levi picked it from the ground, and smashed it down. When it twitched and struggled, he repeated his actions, again and again until the darvithri was little more than a bloodied pile of bones and mangled flesh.
Disgusting.
With a huff, Levi turned his nose up at the remains of the creature. Filthy cloth-wearing thing. Totally uncivilized and vile. Who did it think it was? Attacking him like that... He glanced over to see Sam picking through the creatures with his snout. "Ah! What are you doing?! Don't touch it! It's dirty and gross!" Levi ordered, galloping over.
Sam shrugged. "Yeah, maybe." He admitted. "But look. This cloth could be pretty useful for blankets and curtains and the like." With a bit of washing it could help brighten up his home on Serenia... "If you can bring yourself to collect a few scraps, I'll give you a present." The Gaili promised.
A present? A kiss? Levi brightened instantly, darting to the last two corpses to retrieve a few bits of cloth. He scraped them all together into a bundle with his claws, then rolled the small ball toward Sam. "Done! All that there is! Now...?" He leaned forward a bit, closed his ruby eyes, and his heart fluttered expectantly.
"Keep it." Sam ordered. "Y'never know when you'll need it. And this." He continued, pulling a small bit of his Royal Venom from his now ever-present messenger bag. "It's supposed to be lucky. And you... Well, you clearly need a little luck."
