Howdy!

From all the topics you've been writing I've noticed one peculiar thing: almost every person here is a fan of WICKED.
Because I'm from europe, where WICKED haven't been staged yet, I'm sort of fascinated with this curious fenomenon.

Right now I want to ask you: what in your opinion makes this musical so special?

Your answers may quite motivate me to get more deeply into this musical wink ...

Personally, I just like it. I can never really explain why I like a musical. I can't come out and say, "I like it fo this or that" because it's really a combination of everything for me.

-I love the music, both lyrically and musically.
-I love the way they take a story that you already know and completely twist it around to make you look at things from another point of view.
-Every time I've seen it, most all the actors have been fantastic (give or take a few of the Wizards).
-It's a very visually pleasing show. The sets, costumes, and lights are all dazzling (that the techie in me talking).
-And on a more personal note, the people are all very friendly when I stage door at it. Even the backstage guys.

I was obsessed with the musical a year or two ago, around the time I started the Wicked Guild, which turned into this. I think it really appeals to teenage girls in the whole being who you are, finding yourself, etc. The songs are poppish enough to attract people who aren't really into musical theatre, but it doesn't suck enough to piss off theatre people. Plus, it's a very visual show as WickedElphie said, and that appeals to mainstream as well as theatre people.

Both of you sound soo convincing that right now I wish to go to New York...but unfortunately I can't -_-....

Who knows....maybe they'll stage WICKED in my country.....

I just think it's a very good musical. I LOVE the music in it- I think it's great overall. It's so easy to get stuck in your head and sing along with, I can just have a blast with it!

I always loved the Wizard of Oz too, so it's kinda neat seeing what really happened behind the scenes, you know?

There's toher aspects to it, but pverall, I think it's a phenominal musical.

I believe "Wicked" is coming to London in September. If you're in Europe, that'd be a lot closer than New York. xp

What's wicked about Wicked? Nothing. It's a fairly bad show with more press than it really deserves. A brilliant original cast (Menzel, Chenoweth, Butz, Grey, and Shelley are all great actors, even though they were all annoying and, in Grey's case, boring) was wasted on a corny book that swings from moral to moral like an orangutan on crack, lyrics packed to bursting with cliches left and right, and flat-out boring music. Oh, and it killed Idina Menzel (belting every note on every night plus her smoking habit), so that adds more bitterness to my hatred.

Sorry. Just felt I should bring the opposite view. Don't want you to get your hopes up.

Oh....You can say whatever you want.

I've never seen the show, only heard some songs so I cannot really tell much about it.
I need peoples opinions...

From what I've seen in the past. You either love it to death or hate it to death. I've never met someone in the middle ground. It all depends on what you personally like I guess.

RE: The stuff in bold: Exactly again. It's all down to what sounds good and feels good to you. I like shows that I condsider "good" and I like a few that, objectively, I find to be horrible shows ("Phantom of the Opera", "Mamma Mia", the movie version of "RENT").

The movie version of RENT... caused my heart to bleed. The voices were amazing and all, but... I don't know. My latest pet peeve is when I hear people talking about it as just a movie... I have broken into about six conversations between people I don't know about the movie with the comment "IT WAS A STAGE MUSICAL BEFORE IT WAS A MOVIE." stressed

You can't expect the average joe on the street to be intimate with its history (which is pretty complicated when you get right down to it). Besides, I'm sure there are plenty of Wicked fans who aren't aware that it was based on a book (or at least, talk about the show as if the book doesn't exist).
