Mitsuru appeared more than a little perplexed as she swept the steps leading up to the shrine. True to it's traditional Asian roots, the overall structure remained much the same as it was in it's hay day, but now instead of a tightly woven roof, there was one covered in as much patch work as there was actual construction. It was rough, to be sure, but with the flow of customers and those seeking refuge she'd been able to afford to at least renovate the rooms, which made it cozier.
Certainly cozier for her newest guest. After everything Ilmari told her she felt horrible for the little girl, but she hadn't wanted to ask too many questions. Truffles would tell her when she felt like it, and until then, well, she could make things nice for her in the evenings.
The lanterns were lit, as there was no electricity this far into the woods, even with the lights of the city glittering light stars so close by. Setting her broom off to the side, the petite teen lifted a pale of water to carry it to the food pit, ready to boil for this evenings meal. A few of her friends were helping out; Pidgey to gather supplies from inside, a Monferno to stoke the flames, and a few Rattata just to keep the place lively. It was odd, to be sure, but definitely warm.

It had been weeks... She had waited, and waited... Aatami was gone. Anything she had possessed other than the clothing she wore was gone. She'd lost everything. She tried to keep waiting, but the spark didn't shine quite as bright. She'd failed her brother...
Truffles had eventually convinced herself to move on. After all, if Aatami had been the one left behind, she wouldn't want him to sit and wait for her forever. And what if he eventually came back? It simply wouldn't do for him to find her pouting in the forest. No. She had to keep going...
That was how she found herself at the sanctuary. She was amazed to have found out who was in charge of this place. Mitsuru. That silly but sweet teen who had helped her reach the berries in those thorny bushes. ...That felt like ages ago.
She couldn't depend on others all the time! Oh, no! Not Truffles! But, in the evenings, when it started cooling down for the night, and her belly pinched with hunger... it wasn't bad to have a place with at least one familiar face to go to. As it was, she was just reaching the sanctuary, kicking a stone along as she walked. She looked up as a fire lit, and chewed on a lip at the sight of Mitsuru. She shouldn't just hide in the room all night. Even Aatami would have started to scold her for that! So, she crept quietly over to stand next to the teen. "Anything I can help with?"

When the Monferno looked up, Misturu had her hand on it's shoulder, whispering something before a little Rattata paw nudged her to see Truffles approach.
Her smile was soft, if not a little sad and sympathetic. She wanted to wrap the younger girl up in her embrace, but that might have been pushing it just a touch. Mitsuru kept her hand awkwardly on the Monferno's shoulder, who just shook it's head and grinned while continuing to stoke up the fire.
"You're right on time to help with preparing the meat." Which was a lie, she could have done it herself, but Mitsuru, as a Vegan and queasy stomached individual, wanted nothing to do with it. She motioned to the chunk of fish and some sort of poultry on the little fold out table. "Would you mind cutting that up? And pick out what sort of vegetables should go with it. I trust your judgement."Cornetified I get reply notices. c: I don't mind the double quoting, though, so it's whatever you want to do haha.

Scuffing her shoe along the ground, Truffles kept her eyes averted from the teen in front of her. She didn't want to see that expression aimed at her. She didn't want others to feel sorry for her. She hated that look. Even before she'd lost everything, she had hated that look.
Her ears perked though when her help was accepted, and she looked over at the table. Hmm.... Maybe she could pretend the chunks of meat were- ..no. That was gross. She gave a small nod, and walked over to the table. What vegetables should go with it? Did some go better than others? She had no idea... still, she focused intently on slicing and cutting the fish and poultry into small chunks, since it was going to be shared among all who came here for a hot meal.
(( Okie-dokie then! ))

Things were going to be awkward between them for a while, that much even she could pick up. It was okay, though. At least she knew that by being with her the girl would be taken care of, and well fed, if nothing else. Mitsuru hoped to expand their friendship, but if that didn't happen, well...it'd be kind of sad, but not so bad? In truth, she didn't know how to make someone feel better other than wrapping them up in hugs and snuggling till the bad things went away. This obviously wasn't going to happen here.
While Truffles set about her work, Mitsuru was busy herself. Every little bit she would look over her shoulder to check on her progress, then go about setting up a primitive eating area as more and more Poke'mon floated in.
Still, as she was about to walk back to the shrine to gather drinks, she paused by Truffles station. "It won't take very long to cook those, I don't think, so I'm going in to get drinks. Is there anything you'd like?" Leaning in, she looked about before cupping her hand in front of her mouth. "I've got water for everyone else, but I keep some juice hid back for myself. I could put some in a colored cup for you, if you'd like. That way they won't know." She winked.

Truffles worked steadily, keeping her eyes in front of her. This was better than sitting in her room for the night and thinking too much... or not at all. She was glad for the security, but it felt so empty without Aatami.
Nearly finished, her ears twitched as Mitsuru spoke. She gave a small nod at the first offer. Her ears perked a little at the secret offer. Juice? That sounded good. But.. she should take what everyone else was getting. She didn't need special treatment! Those words wouldn't come when she looked up at Mitsuru's eager expression. "...Okay," she said with a tiny smile. A little secret between them. That was.. almost fun!

Mitsuru's smile flourished. "Alright! Be back in a bit." With a little secretive giggle, she ran up the stone steps outside the shrine and dashed inside. She gathered all of the water containers she could, moving them one by one to the front steps for another Poke'mon to take before going back for the juice. It was a simple transfer, one that she did with the utmost of secrecy (and surveillance, checking this way and that) before coming back out with the last load.
"Here you go Truffles. I got the cup you asked for." She winked, setting a black thermas down on the table. "Is the meat ready to be put on?"

Well, it was nice to see someone smile because of her... Truffles turned her focus back on what she was cutting up, and was piling it up when Mitsuru returned.
"Thanks." Taking the cup, she inspected the contents and gave it a sniff before she took a small sip. Yum.... "Yeah. It's ready." Despite her messy hands, she held the cup close, almost concerned about setting it down. Someone might take it!

Taking care of so many around supper time was busy work! Mitsuru gussied up her shoulders, and nodded. "Awesome! Do you mind putting it on the fire? Or helping me out in a bit? All I have to do is set these up." She shuffled herself around, and was grateful with a few of the Ratatta moved forward to help her carry the drinks. "Oh, thank you! You're so sweet." She patted their heads and smiled, giggling a little as one brushed her leg.
She turned to the fire where the Monferno was holding up an array of small sticks just thin around for shiskabobbing. "Ooh, Truffles look, pit sticks!"

Truffles looked between the fire and the cup. "...I guess," she murmured after a few seconds. She carefully set her cup down and kept an eye on it as she prepared to move the meats.
She glanced over at the friendly pokemon that had come here for shelter like she had. Everyone here needed something. ..It was only right to help out. Maybe she could try being a little more... nah. She focused on setting the meats out to cook, only glancing over a little when Mitsuru made her happy announcement, and giving the tiniest nod. She didn't know what those were for...

"Look, look, see?" Mitsuru speared a few pieces of meat and veggies on one of the sticks, passing it over to the Monferno to put on the fire. "Isn't that great?! It's the best thing since ovens, but that's a human thing, and we don't have electricity out here anyway." She shrugged, snatching up her cup to drink some of her own juice.
"So, what have you been doing...during the day? Working at the flower shop?" Mitsuru edged, working on a bit of food prep herself. She rarely got the chance to actually talk to Truffles, party because of their schedules, but more so because of the recent incident. She didn't want to intrude, however, it didn't seem right to stay locked inside yourself for that long... "Made any new friends?"

While her eyes were on the spearing sticks with interest, her expression gave away little. That made sense. She'd done similar cooking methods before, but never thought to use them like that. She'd never had her veggies cooked, unless they were in a soup.
Her gaze lifted as the questions came, and dropped quickly back down to the cup of juice. What should she say? "They don't have much for me to do right now," she murmured. With plenty of older grass-types around, she didn't have much to stand out with. Sure, she could lift the heavy fertilizer bags on her own, but she wasn't the only one. It was difficult to job hunt and lay low at the same time..
As for friends.... Aatami would want her to make friends, but... Her lips pressed after taking another sip, eyes firmly on her cup. No. No new friends. Never mind that she didn't exactly have many old friends, either. "I can't make new friends," she suddenly replied. She didn't know who was in contact with certain underground parties. She didn't want to say the wrong thing to the wrong person, and get herself caught. She didn't want to need saving again.

"Oh, well, I'm sure that will change come summer. It's just the first of Spring now, so I wouldn't be too down about it." Were flower shops down during the winter, she wondered? Or would they still be running, with so many grass types in the world? "If you ever run out of work there, we can go look for something together. Or start up a shop of our own! It would be fun, don't you think?" Mitsuru grinned. "We could sell berries...or..or...nuts." She shrugged, and laughed.
Concern glossing her features, Mitsuru scooted a little closer to Truffles. "Why not? You're such a sweet girl. " And she was, beneath all those prickly thorns. The teen sat humped, bent at the knee with one elbow on her thigh, holding her head and hair away from the flames.

Truffles only shrugged. Working with flowers? It was so dull... but, she needed something so that she wouldn't have to depend on others. She needed to prove herself to- well, herself. Work with Mitsuru? ...That might be nice. At least Mitsuru didn't push, and took her seriously.
Yet, hearing those last words, her eyes lifted in surprise. Mitsuru thought.. What? A tiny bit of heat colored her cheeks, and she turned back to the fire grumpily. "Not what I mean," she murmured. She would never have thought someone would have described her as sweet. She could never explain her situation to Mitsuru though... Mitsuru was the sweet one. Not her... "Jus'.. let it go."

Mitsuru grinned, giving into a little laugh. Truffles was blushing! She had to really lean in to see it, but it was there all right. "Then what do you mean? You do know you can talk to me, right? That's what sisters are for." She sat up more shiskabobs, fixing up some specifically for only veggie eaters and others for only meat eaters.
Her cheeks puffed up, though, and she frowned. "I'm not gonna let it go! You are sweet, and kind, and really smart. Street smart, I think it's called. You're really quick to point out holes in a plan, and you work really hard. I think that anyone that doesn't want to be your friend should be kicked in the shins." And that coming from a not normally violent girl.
