Truls was grinning from ear to ear. He had just heard the best news EVER, and he'd finally have a way to shut Tall up. His brother had been a royal pain in the behind since he got back from his first raid. It was so unfair! Truls had planned to be the first reaver out of his siblings, and then Tall went and did it first. If he'd still been a cub he'd have stomped his feet and whined that it was unfair. The impulse was still there, but it wasn't proper behavior for a warrior so Truls took his frustrations out on his sparring partners. He'd kick a** when he got to go on his raid! He was still sweaty and dirty after his latest spar, but never mind that. Soon he'd get his chance to shine, and he'd do much better than stupid Tall. Stupid Tall named after stupid trees. Oh, there he was. This would be good... "One day I'll kill you, brother," he called, still grinning. Princess_Feylin Wheee... Why not start another RP and add it to the pile?

Unsuspecting, Tall returned his brother's greeting with a variation, "Not if I kill you first."
Truls always knew how to press Tall's buttons, so to speak, and so Tall tended to avoid him when he was in a bad mood, but following his return from an impromptu viking with an unwelcome companion, Tall was actually feeling fairly mellow. By his standards, anyway. He was, at least, beginning to come to terms with the idea that had sent him out into the rogue lands in a snit to begin with.
"You look like you've been fighting. I hope you haven't embarrassed the family in the process."

"Never," Truls said, looking a bit offended. "You should see the other guy." He knew Tall was just teasing him, but he would never want to embarrass their family. Family reputation was serious business, and it wasn't very funny to joke about it. But he wasn't here to get in an argument about that, so he squashed his hurt feelings and tried to stay on track. It wasn't shameful to look like he'd been in a fight, right? He casually brushed some dirt from his pale front leg. At least he didn't have flowers in his blood.
"Soo," he said, "What have you been up to lately, brother? I haven't seen you on the training grounds in a while."
He could have just blurted out a 'Ha, ha. You're getting married', but that might just end with Tall storming off. If he played his cards right he'd get to tease his brother for a good long time before he stormed off, or smacked him in the face.

"Good to hear."
Tall grinned in a lazy, toothy manner. As long as his brother was winning his fights, that was good enough for him. They had a family reputation to uphold. It wasn't enough merely to have old blood. There was a great deal of responsibility that came with old blood, as Tall had recently been reminded by their grandfather. Stormlords' salty piss, what a jerk Thorgrim was.
"If you're looking to get your butt handed to you on the sands, I can help you out with that, of course." Another toothy grin. "But I've been out on a few vikings," Tall replied, deliberately casual even though vikings were still a relatively new thing for him and leaving the pride to enter the rogue lands still felt like an adventure.
"Nothing major of course, but I did bring in a thrall on one of them." With help from Bruten and Isskinn. But why bog down the narrative with silly things like facts? "What have you been up to?"

"You're welcome to try," he said. It had been a while since they sparred and Truls wasn't sure who was the stronger lion anymore. They used to be fairly evenly matched, but who kept score? Right... Vikings. This was why he had avoided Tall lately. Did he really have to go catch a thrall? Really? Now truls would have to catch a thrall, or two... Maybe if he did it on his very first viking he could get away with catching just one? Truls still smiled, he did have some self-control, but it was a very tense smile. "Lovely," he said, without meaning it, "Was it any good? The thrall I mean..." That didn't sound right. Oh, well... Ah, to hell with dragging this out any longer. Instead of telling Tall what he'd been up to he asked another question. "Did you bring back anything nice for your betrothed?" it was a perfectly innocent question, but Truls counted on it to annoy the hell out of his brother. From what he had heard Tallskog hadn't exactly jumped from joy when he was told who he was supposed to marry.

Tall made a noncommittal noise. He wasn't in the mood to spar right now. He would rather go right back out on another viking expedition, truly. A real one with a planned route and everything, rather than a quick trip with a lion he barely knew tagging along. But he couldn't do that. Arrangements had been made for him to meet with his betrothed in the next few days, and that meant he had to stay put.
"Eh, she was all right. Not to my taste, but nothing wrong with her, you know. She's that kind of seafoam green one with the long legs and sort of curly coat." She probably had a name, but Tall hadn't asked for it, and if anyone had told him what it was, he had forgotten.
Tall's eyes narrowed and he fixed his brother with a glare. He wished he could kill with a look. But he couldn't. He could only glower and try to come up with a response. With a colossal effort he feigned indifference and was very unconvincing about it.
"I haven't even met the lioness," he growled. "And don't you dare say anything about bringing something for my betrothed around the family."
He didn't want to have to go catch something for the lioness, or barter for something. He didn't want to be betrothed in the first place.

Tall didn't look as if he was going to take him up on the offer to fight right now, and that was probably good. Truls was already tired, and would have had a hard time taking on his brother. He nodded at the description of the thrall. He'd probably see her around, but he couldn't remember if he'd already seen the thrall. They tended to blend into the background for him... A curly coat sounded exotic, but it was hard to imagine if it'd be an attractive kind of exotic or a weird one. It took some effort, but Truls managed to avoid pointing and laughing. He just smiled and molded his features into a expression that almost looked innocent. 'What? I'm just being a considerate and concerned brother!' "You have never met Naaja before," he said, playing dumb. "She's the Warlord's daughter, you know... Probably expects fancy gifts." He nodded sagely as if he had a ton of experience with what high ranking freeborn ladies wanted.

Tall was not taken in by his brother's expression for a fraction of a moment. Truls was too intelligent to convincingly claim innocence. At least, Tall credited him with being at least that intelligent. Intelligent enough that he would not have brought the subject up by accident, which mean that it was deliberate, which meant that considerate and concerned expression of his was all an act. Obviously.
"I do know she's the warlord's daughter. I'm not a moron." Of course, that was about the extent of his knowledge about his bride-to-be. He was positive that he'd seen her before at some point. He must have. She was the warlord's daughter, after all, and for a time it had been nearly impossible to go anywhere in the pride without running into that family. But that had been a long time ago.
"If she wants fancy gifts, she's marrying the wrong lion. I don't see the need for females to adorn themselves with excessive decoration. It looks...trashy." He shook his head. "Anyway, what's it to you? Hoping to live vicariously through me, since I'm pretty sure you'll never find any female willing to marry you?"Annchen Ugh. Tall, quit being a jerk.

Truls kept up his fake innocent look as Tall stated that he wasn't a moron. He feigned surprise, as if to tell his brother. 'Really? You're not? I could never tell!' It wasn't a very believable act, but that in itself might piss Tallskog off more. Win-win situation. The little stinker deserved it after strutting about, constantly bragging about his raids. Truls really needed to find a captain willing to take him out soon. Perhaps he had approached the matter all wrong... He was vain enough to want a captain to notice him and ask for him to come, but that strategy was clearly failing. He'd have to swallow his pride and ask. Or beg. Or bribe someone... "I didn't say anything about decoration," Truls said, mostly to be obnoxious and contrary. "I'm sure you can come up with something suitable, since you're not a moron and all." Tall was trying to get under his skin, but luckily he chose a fairly safe subject. As if Truls wanted to marry anytime soon! Ugh... The respectable freeborn ladies were so demanding. It was easier to fool around with willing thralls. They didn't talk back. Never mind that they most likely liked him (or pretended to like him) for being freeborn, and not for his stellar personality. "I'm just trying to save you from crashing and burning, dear brother," he said sweetly, "I'm not in a hurry to be tied up in an early marriage." He assumed his brother would feel the same way, and happily rubbed it in. Whenever Truls decided to marry, somewhere in the far future, his wife would be much better than Tall's. "Anyway," he said, "I think I'll go check out the newest thralls. I've heard there's one who does massages. Don't die in bed! And don't come crying to me when your lovely wife chews you out for not giving her presents." He half turned, but he wouldn't hesitate to turn back if he found more opportunities to taunt Tall.

One thing about Truls which was actually pretty impressive was his ability to provoke his brother and then just sit back and wait for Tall to put his paw in it. He had seemingly learned the value of silence in allowing somebody to make an idiot of himself, and Tall kept falling for it. It made the reaver absolutely bonkers that he brother could so easily get him to step into things like claiming he wasn't a moron as if that was something he had to say. Everyone knows if you have to tell someone you're brave, or smart, or whatever, you're not that brave, or smart, or whatever.
"Shut up," Tall grumbled, wondering if he could just walk away and end the conversation, or if Truls would follow him. Probably Truls would follow him. Ugh.
And, of course, Truls was right. Tall hadn't been looking for an early marriage, but his attempts to get out of it had been resoundingly unsuccessful so far. He didn't even know how to respond to that, though. Did he wish a harridan on his brother? Remind him once again that he'd probably never find a female who wanted to marry him? That hadn't proven very effective the last time he tried it.
He was still trying to figure out a good comeback when Truls bid him a cheeky goodbye. Thralls that could do massages indeed! Every so often Tall wished he could kill his brother. Not really. Maybe just...stuff his mouth with something really sticky so that he couldn't talk for a good, long time. Oh, if only.
He shook his head and conceded defeat with rolled eyes.

Truls walked away with a grin on his maw, but with a nagging insecurity marring his victory. He had intended to taunt his brother about the impending marriage, and Tallskog seemed annoyed, so mission accomplished! He might have "won" this, but his brother was still miles ahead of him in other areas. Tall didn't even have to say anything, he just had to stand there to remind Truls that he wasn't a reaver yet. Yeah, he really needed to do something about that.
