Flora was flying through the sky. She caught a bird with her fangs before landing on the ground. She would eat meat, but at the same time she tended to be more vegetarian than eating other creatures. She looked around the area. It was quiet out tonight. Not many seemed to be around. She flattened her ears against her head a bit sad hoping that someone would be there but it seemed no one was. After all, she nearly killed ponies she came into contact with just by getting overly emotional on certain occasions.
She put the bird down staring at it. "It doesn't feel right. Not at all." She buried the creature instead even though she was the one who killed it. "Maybe some other creature will be grateful for this meal." Flora then made her way to a clearing. "Ah here I can practice!" She looked around the area making sure no one was around before starting to practice her ability of earth magic. She focused all her energy before some vines came shooting out of the ground. They grew fairly big and large. "Almost there!" She then tried to make it produce fruit but she lost control of it and it went shooting off into another part of the forest before tearing down a tree on accident. "Oh fiddlesticks! When am I gonna get this right? Mom always told me to make sure my emotions were in check." She sighed a bit before listening and staying silent to make sure that no one heard it.
She then went over to meditate by the dark river to cool herself down. It had been quite a trial for her even to do that, plus she was exhausted from practicing such advanced magic. Flora wasn't sure what her sisters could do, but she hoped neither had actually been deemed a monster like her and her mother.

Rafe saw the large vine shoot up through the trees as he flew over. Such a disturbance in power and nature made him question whether the undead was about. He didn't detect any blank spaces though, but that didn't mean anything. The undead were adept at hiding themselves from hunters when they knew they were near.
He touched down silently down wind of the power explosion. Silently he traveled through the trees, masking his presence. When he came to the clearing, he spotted a green demoness standing there. She didn't seem like the undead. Her signature wasn't even close to an undead's.
Rafe took the risk and stepped out into the clearing. "Are you ok? I saw that big vine and then the tree it took down..." His voice was a very pleasing baritone. And it was one of his best weapons. He could make anyone do anything with his voice, though he wasn't using it on her. Right now he was trying to see if she was ok.

At first Flora didn't realize he was there. She was so exhausted, plus in a deep meditative state. Her aqua eyes flung open once he talked and she looked over towards where the voice was coming from. For a moment if a pony paid close attention there was a vine that was growing behind her, but it was barely noticeable since she was tired, plus she wasn't so much terrified as she was just nervous. "Oh...I'm fine."
At first she hesitated on whether or not to tell him it was her who caused the damage, but she wasn't sure if he would chide her like all the others did. "I..." she cut herself off a bit nervous, but she slowly got up just in caution as to who this was. "I did notice the commotion, but I've been over here just meditating. They say it's good for the body and soul." She looked at the river. "Although that was one heck of a scare."
Eventually she made her way a bit closer. Perhaps this pony wasn't so bad, but still. He wouldn't chase her away like the others, would he? She eventually made her way towards him that she was only about a couple feet away from him. "Do you live here? If I am being a nuisance I'll leave. I try not to stray into private property." She then looked back at the river in wondering what she should say or do. "That is ever since my family all went their separate ways." She stopped herself before realizing that she was being incredibly rude. "Oh sorry...I'm Flora."

Once the teal demon heard her voice, colors snapped behind his eyes and blinded him. To him, she was a vivid green with the most interesting brown mane he had ever seen. The moon overhead was bright, and the leaves on the trees were so vibrant that they hurt his eyes.
What's more, is that he could feel the pain. Actually feel it. It had been ages since he'd felt anything. Rafe took a moment to savor the pain. And to listen to her sweet, soothing voice. And then it occurred to him just what all this meant.
"You're my lifemate." He smiled, taking her in.
"I'm sorry. I'm Rafe," He bowed low in greeting. "It's so wonderful to finally meet you."

Flora at first was in half shock and half confusion as to what happened. First this pony was asking if she was ok then he was telling her she was his lifemate. "Uh...are you sure about that?" She cocked her head to the side. "I mean we barely know each other."
Flora paused for a second before continuing. "I mean that vine that caused that disturbance. It was actually me trying to practice the art of making a powerful vine to produce fruit, but it turned into a weapon. Emotions are what causes the problem with that type of magic." She stopped herself from rambling on, because she tended to do this a lot, especially when nervous.

Rafe smiled, "I'm sure you don't understand. Most don't. I'm Carpathian. My people only have one mate. We wait years and years, life times even, to find that one. Not just anyone will do. It is predetermined before we are born."
He paused to let her digest the new information. "We lose the ability to feel and to see in color when we become adults. Only our lifemate can restore these things to us. And I have those things now. Since you spoke, actually. A lifemate's voice unlocks these for us."

Flora was trying to take in all the information, but small bits and pieces still confused her every now and then. "Carpathian....and lifemates" She raised an eyebrow. "I mean I'm happy you got your ability to feel and color, but wouldn't it bug you if the one your predetermined to be with was a monster who can barely control her own magic?"
She looked down for a moment. "I mean I guess I'm like my mom in a way. We try to do things and sometimes if we're not careful we hurt the ones we love." She paused for a second before continuing on. "Not like I would say no, but what do your people do with a pony that is stubborn on not being another's lifemate?"

Rafe raised an eyebrow at her. "Well...if you say that you don't want to be my lifemate...Then I die. Maybe not directly because of you. But I can't go back to not feeling anything. And I definitely don't want to go back to the gray world."
He shook his head, "So the easiest solution would be for me to greet the dawn. That way, perhaps in the next life, you would be more accepting of me."
"My people only have one mate. Ever. A male's lifemate keeps the darkness from consuming their soul and making them the Undead. If you rejected me, and I did not greet the dawn...then my soul would die."
Rafe could feel the beast roaring. It wanted desperately to make her see his point of view so that it would have it's mate. Rafe took several deep breaths, drawing on the calm that he had come to utilize in times when the beast tried to take control. He could ride it out. He would ride it out. For how long, he wasn't sure. But he'd give it his best shot.

Flora was a bit surprised by his sudden explanation. None of it really sounded any good and she didn't want to be the cause of anyone's death if she could help it and surprisingly he didn't seem to care that she was capable of being a possible menace like other ponies had treated her. "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was that serious. It's just most shoo me away once they get to know me or feel disgusted with me after I tell them more of myself." She shook her head to clear up some thoughts.
"Would it hurt to ask if we could get to know each other more? That way this won't fell as sudden, but if that's really what you want then I will oblige. However, I really like to know what I'm getting myself into." Flora scanned the area. "So besides me, did anything else bring you out here tonight?" She was trying to stay friendly. It was the least she could do.

Rafe was abhorred when he realized that she thought he wanted to consumate their relationship right away.
"Oh no, I would love to get to know you. I don't expect you to just up and love me right away. Those things take time. My people have very deep and urgent physical needs, but I won't demand or ask that of you right now. There's so much to tell you and teach you about my people, but all that will come."
He smiled at her and stepped closer, "I promise I will never be disgusted with you. You were made to be the other half of my soul. If I thought that you were an ugly, terrible pony, you wouldn't be my lifemate."
Rafe drank her in. The way she smelled, the sadness and the lack of self confidence she had, as well as the beautiful way the moon glittered along her skin.
"I was on patrol tonight, originally. But I felt an inexplicable pull in this direction. And then I found you. So you weren't my original goal, but you are a nice surprise. I'll take this over the undead any day."

Flora was a bit relieved when he mentioned that he actually was willing to talk her through things so she wouldn't feel so rushed into it all of a sudden. "Alright." She paused for a moment trying to take in what he just said. "I wonder if that's why I never really seemed to fit in with others. Every time my crazy uncle would try to set me up on blind dates, most would end up leaving due to no patience or they were more not wanting to get involved with a demon who can possibly loose control of their powers and kill them."
She cocked her head to the side after hearing what he was talking about. "Patrol? Is this something your people tend to do frequently? Also who are the undead for that matter?" She stopped herself. "I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions."

Rafe smiled gently at his lifemate and moved to sit on the ground. He sent her waves of patience. "I don't mind answering all your questions. I would like to get a bit more comfortable though. I don't want us to stand here like we're waiting for one to attack the other. I won't ever hurt you."
As Rafe settled onto the ground he looked up at Flora. "Now for question one. That probably has a lot to do with you not fitting in or getting on with other males. And I am very grateful for it. Though I do not like that it has made you sad, but at least we will both be learning things together for the first time."
"And now for your second question. It is common for the unmated males of my herd to go and keep an eye out for the undead. Our people are still recovering from many centuries of war with them. And they would not hesitate to kill anyone they came into contact with, Carpathian or not. We don't want that. Plus, this gives the males who are waiting for their lifemates something to do."
"And to the last one. The undead are vampires, though perhaps not in the sense that there are vampires in the valleys. These vampires used to be Carpathian males like me. But when they lost their emotions and the ability to see in color, instead of waiting for their lifemates, they gave into the call of the beast, the darkness in every male. They killed while they fed, which let them feel a rush of power that they became addicted to. And in doing so, they lost their souls. They are no longer like me. They only want to kill and harm. There is no honor left in them anymore. We must exterminate them when we find them so that they cannot hurt anyone."

Flora watched as he sat down. He seemed to trust her already without a doubt so she eased up a bit and slowly sat herself down as well. "Well I guess that's good then." She then continued to listen to the rest.
"Oh I see. So you wouldn't be on patrol to kill my father." She paused for a moment. "My mother is a demon, but my dad is actually a vampire. I have not drunk blood before though." She paused. "My mother..." She trailed off for a moment. "My mother did originally have a demon mate long before, but that's another story." She continued to listen to him. "She was part of a group of demons that specialized in earth magic. Because of what they were capable of they got chased out of their lands. In a last attempt to stand their ground they waged a war against the angelic race. My mother during the fight got extremely emotional and in a rage accidentally killed her first husband on an accident." She nodded towards where the pathway where she had accidentally cleared out.
"Similar to that, but much worse. I hope no one has to experience that in your family. I can only imagine what it would do to have you loose your lifemate. Would you revert back to what you were or what would happen?" She paused for a moment. "Although, if i am talking depressing I am sorry. I just like to make sure others are 100% ok with me and knowing that I can pose a threat before I settle down. However, I do have other cheerful topics if that helps."

"You won't pose a threat to me, Flora. We're lifemates. Our bond is deeper than most others."
He smiled sadly, "Most of time when lifemates are separated by death the one left in this world follows the other into the next life. Only rarely will they stay separated. Instances where they would would be if there were children involved. Though, if it is the woman who goes first, then there is a possibility that the male will wreak havoc before he is either sent to the other side or he chooses to go willingly. Our lifemates are really the only thing our males have to live for."
Rafe posed his own set of questions, "Does the idea of drinking blood bother you? You speak often of being unable to control your talent, as a Carpathian, I imagine that would disappear. You would be much more powerful than you are now. And I would be willing to teach you how to harness that power."
He lowered his head and rubbed his neck. The motion was uncharacteristically vulnerable for Rafe. "Could you see yourself, with me, for the rest of time?"
"It's not as dreadful as it sounds though. I swear. I have responsibilities as your lifemate. It is my duty to see to your safety, health, and happiness. In that order. I would love the chance to court you, Flora."

Flora continued to listen to Rafe and he definitely seemed genuine and caring about her. Perhaps it was better if they moved on to more cheerful topics. She could tell that her air of sadness and uncertainty was definitely not helping Rafe at all and besides she should give him the benefit of the doubt. "That's too bad and hopefully that never has to happen to anyone in your family or anyone for that matter."
The question Rafe asked towards her was a bit confusing to her, but yet it didn't phase her. "Well I guess it doesn't bother me. I never drank blood before to tell you the truth. Now my one sister and father do so I do know of other ponies doing it."
Flora cocked her head to the side trying to think if it was the best. "Well as long as you don't mind me I don't see why not. I still think we should get to know each other though." She paused for a moment trying to think of a happy topic so it wouldn't feel so tense. "So mind if I ask about your family and what it's like? How many brothers or sisters do you have?"
