Labyrinthite wasn't sure why he choose to follow the bleeding energy signature, it can only come from one person--no, she's not much of a person anymore but rather, a being. He'd made it a point, until tonight, to avoid her energy signal whenever it flares. He's good at that, avoiding things he doesn't want to deal.

But something draws him to her, as always, and he found her in the same park that they first met in.

He watched her for a moment, letting his amber eyes sweep over the cracks in her skin. Cracks that were the same color as her eyes. He can remember the last time he saw her easily, because it ended in a silent fight. Him against her.

Him turning his back on her.

Her back was to him this time and it took a moment before he said anything, before he called out to her. "Alkaid." Her name stuck in this throat and came out in high-pitched and strained. "Long time no see," he tried again this time coming across more self-assured. Confident.

She had felt the wandering signature as it got closer, though the voice that called out to her once it was too close to discern from her own energy made her pause.

She was standing calmly in front of a statue of a blindfolded angel, staring in silence up at its face. Her cloak rippled around her and swayed in the wind, her head turning until it was parallel with her shoulder. Her bright amber eyes cut sideways and caught her first glimpse of him - and showed him the first glimpse of her shattered features.

They hadn't spoken in a very, very long time. The memory of him was almost too brief, too sweet, too fleeting for her to grasp. Yet it was there and for a moment, a small one, she thought her starseed fluttered in her chest - a mockery of what she should have felt when facing a once great love.

"Labyrinthite," she said softly, turning until she could face him. Spans of her hard, marbled flesh gleamed between the dark material of her uniform, sparse as it was. She stepped down slowly off of the dais, the wings of the angel framing her from behind as she watched him. What thoughts did she have now that made her seek out a soldier of justice in the dead of night? Those were her secrets.

Her hands clasped behind her back, brushing against the fabric of her cloak and settling just above her draconic wings. "Are you punishing yourself for something tonight?" Her face didn't change as she spoke, but there was a knowing in the words.

Looking at her hurt, in that awful pain in the chest kind of way because it reminded him of how things changed. Of how they had both changed and how he couldn't say it was for the better.

Before he could stop himself, his eyes wandered over the entire expanse of her form. From the dark of her uniform to the pale of her skin and he wondered, briefly, if things could have gone any different between them.

Probably not.

"What can I say? I'm a glutton," he replied flashing her an empty smile. He still didn't know how to act around her, too much time had elapsed. "Figured I couldn't avoid you forever."

Alkaid could see the small tell-tale signs of pain in Labyrinthite as he let his eyes wander over everything that had changed about her. There was so very little left of the girl he had loved, once.

There was so very little left of that love at all, for her. It was a memory in another world, another time.

"You probably could have," she responded softly, taking a few steps towards him as her eyes sought out his own, "the universe is big enough." One of the wings at her waist twitched and she sighed, staring into his open face and trying to read his thoughts in a way she hadn't been able to in a long, long time. She saw only the emptiness. She wasn't sure if she should have been alarmed by it or not - emptiness was a familiar feeling.

After a moment she just spread her arms out at her sides and tilted her head at him, questioning what he wanted with her stance before she ever asked.

"Is there something you need from me?"

"The universe may be vast," he began, trying to keep his voice level and his expression cool, "but Destiny City is not. We are not vast," By we he meant the Negaverse. "There aren't as many of us as it seems. Especially at your rank." Or the rank he should be rather than the rank he was.

They weren't in the same sub-division, so avoiding her had been easier than expected, but he'd still seen glimpses of her whenever they were all summoned by one of the General-Queens. He hated that he always searched for her without thinking.

Old habits died hard it seemed.

"I don't know," he admitted, daring to look away this time. His gaze settled on the ground as he flexed his fingers out, then in. He stayed quiet, contemplating his reasoning for seeking her out. He'd come because his instincts told him to, he never doubted his instincts. Not anymore.

"He's dead y'know," he muttered, hands slipping into the pockets of his pants and his head lifted slightly to look at her.

"Is he?" The hands at her side dropped and one perfect, blonde brow quirked. She was silent for a long time, taking in his defeated stance and the way he seemed so unsure of himself.

"I'd like to say I'm sorry, but my ability to forgive is somewhat diminished." She glanced back at the angel that was now looming behind her, then dropped her gaze to the ground beneath her feet. He brought far too many memories forward for her, many that were just easier to forget in the darkness that was consuming so much of who she was.

Her gaze shifted back up to him. She was caught between walking closer and fleeing, unsure of what the proper response to his emotions were. She could not console, nor could she inspire. She had no wise words to offer him or any gestures of comfort. All of those things were seeping away from her and she had yet learned how to compensate for that.

"You're a better soldier without him." She took the few steps closer, staring up at the eyes that had once been so familiar.

"I don't expect you to. He wasn't my favorite person either." Samuel's death had still hurt and looking at Alkaid reminded him of everything the man had denied him with his harsh words and strict views. "Yeah - " he faltered because she was moving closer and -<********>, looking at her hurt.

"I might be. I'm still testing the waters but I - " he swallowed hard because the words he wanted to say couldn't - shouldn't - be said. I miss you, us but we're never going to be that again are we? The captain thought, licking his lips in an almost nervous tick.

Alkaid always made him uncertain, they weren't together anymore and she - he wasn't even sure what she was and yet - all he wanted to do was impress her.

"I'm still holding you to that space ride sometime," he decided on finally taking a step back and putting that space she'd closed back between them. "So I guess you should expect that I might come by to collect sometime..." And he looked like he wanted to say more before he shook his head and offered her a weak lopsided grin.

"But maybe some other night." There was too much to prepare for and too much on his mind. They would have time later, he was sure.

He walked a tandem path with Alkaid he knew.

So Labyrinthite turned and walked away. It was his turn this time.
