Morsmordre watched the mare, if she could be called that, from the shadows. She was young, and still a bit ungainly in that awkward stage between adult and child. Likely full of herself and ready to have adventures she wasn't ready for--she could help with that.

She had beautiful feathers and tail, her talons were long and sharp. She'd fetch a good price and it would be more than a little fun to break her of that prideful look she had about her.

Morsmordre knew that she needed to surprise the mare so that she would not take flight. She cursed her mother for the groundwalker of lesser blood that she was. But, Mors more than knew how to scare a mare from taking flight especially one so young.

She would wait for her to come a little closer then she'd either lure her in or smash her down till she could be chained or stopped from taking flight.

When Mimiteh first steps upon ground not walked upon by her family she thought life would be full of adventure and new knowledge. However, all the young female felt these days was a pit of sadness. She had no idea where her claws and wings were taking her. She had no idea when she would see her parents, bothers and or uncle again. She had no real idea what she was doing or any idea what she’s supposed to do.

Her mother told her that her first months alone would be hard, but then again when Vanette fled the flock he had Zutnic and Deus by her side. Mimiteh had no one, but she prayed maybe that would change. A friend would be a nice change of pace. Or maybe she would even run into unknown family. The flock, the Amachi, she believed those titles were right.

"At least I have my thoughts." Mimi told herself. "Though, I suppose if I’m going mad with loneliness that isn’t a good sign."

Carefully, Mimi made her way through the brush and the trees hoping to find her way towards some open ground. Some time to spread her wings and take up the rare sight of the sun in the clinging weather would do her some good. Too bad she was unaware of the dark cloud tailing her. She had yet to learn how to pay attention to the signs around her. The chirping birds who take flight. The animals the grow tense and watchful. How to keep her senses alert.

Her naive ways would turn out to be her downfall.

How best to approach the girl? Maybe she should even just promise her candy. Mormordre smiled and walked out into the open feigning shock when she saw the other girl, "Oh, hello." Her voice was higher than usual, friendly almost but the malice was still in her eyes.

"I didn't know anyone else was around these parts. I hope, I'm not intruding on you." She smiled again, bright and false. Let's see how smart the girl is, poor stupid creature.

Mimiteh could have jumped straight into the trees and taken shelter among the branches at the shock that intruded her heart! She had been so busy swimming in her thoughts that she had neither seen nor heard the mare that came into her sight. Maybe the spirits were tricking her. They could have heard her plea for a friend and traveling companion. But just how desperate was Mimi to have someone to fill the emptiness eating away at her? A wiser soq might have been able to see through the illusion the half-breed was putting on, or even known to practice caution, but Mimi was more along the lines of a goldfish in a lake full of Piranha.

"Oh, uhh..." Mimi allowed herself time to come down from her shock and take a closer look at the other mare. Horns, a demon tail, but...no wings. Could she be one her father always called Kalona? She certainly didn't seem evil and made of dark magic. Really, she seemed darn right friendly. Still...

"Oh no no!" she replied with a light laugh mixed with nervousness and an attempt to be friendly. "I'm a bit surprised, but no damage done. It has been so quiet I had thought the path to the clearing to be abandoned, but it looks like I'm wrong in a good way. Best to travel with others nearby than alone, right? May I ask where you are headed?"

Morsmordre smiled brighter, her sharp teeth glinting in the daylight. Don't you know? I'm thing that goes bump in the night. "Just a little further one, I live a few miles from her by this nice little lake. There's fish and sweet grass if you'd like to come and rest awhile, it gets so lonely there alone."

The feathered ones liked fish, easier to reel them in with. The simpering little foo had no idea what she was in for. "And where are you going? And why are you alone on this path all by yourself?"

The mutant gryph could not deny that the idea of having a place to rest for the day was temping. She tired of traveling until the sun started to set and then spending the leftover daylight making a nest high in the trees, which would only be used for the night, or maybe a few days if she decided to stay in an area for a couple of days. Sleeping in the dirt would be easier, but the idea seemed strange. This mare, with her markings and attitude seemed stranger, but if she really wanted to attack Mimi should would have done so already, right?

"Well, to be truthful I am kind of lost. I only left home a short time ago, and have just been wandering for the last couple of weeks. It's a miracle I haven't gotten more lost than I have. I must been pretty stupid, huh? My family used to tell me of the dangers that lurked in the world, but I haven't seen them so far."

Her mother and uncle would most likely frown if they saw her now. At least she could be thankful a walker or some other predator haven't gotten to her so far.

"I was, well, hoping to find a place to take in the rare winter heat and hopefully stretch my wings, but," No, no, to run along with someone she just met would be a bad choice. Only a fool would do so, especially one who would possibly be of Kalona blood.

Still, the temptation. Food. Rest. Company. If things did turn bad she could always take flight and run off, right? Yes, as long as she remained cautious and kept an escape route in her sight things would be fine.

"I suppose taking a detour could not hurt..."

"Of course not," the self-satisfied voice answered. You look on the face of evil and do not know it. Oh, what a pretty price you'll fetch! The thought brought delight to Morsmordre's face.

"You must be so sad and lonely away from your family for the first time," she turned off the path into the darker woods. "How your poor mother must worry," she said gently. You'll never go home again. I promise you that.

"Do you sing?" she asked the girl curiously. "What kind of talents do you have?" It was better to find out before the hitting and screaming if possible.

There were times when instinct and thought battled for control, and this happened to be one of those times. Everything in Mimteh’s body told her to turn tail and run, but she resisted. Her mind insisted that the Kalona really was trying to help her out. She was. She was. She was! Not everyone out in the real world was out to get her. Not everyone was an enemy. This was supposed to be an adventure of self-discovery, and how was Mimteh supposed to discover herself and she was always running away from everyone she crossed paths with.

Blinking, Mimeteh gave a gentle smile at the half-kalona’s question.
“Well, yes,” she said while giving a slight nod. “My mother was once part of the flock, so she left with talents of her own, which she passed on to us and encouraged us to practice. One of my brother’s is a bard. I ended up finding a love for dance and singing. I also learned a bit of crafting before I left to start my own life.”

Memories started flooding the mare’s mind. If anything she missed her brother the most. She missed the way he would make music for her to dance to and how they would exchange stupid stories.
