Rap, rap, rap!

Sharp knocks rained on the Everard's front door, three in a row, with pauses in between each set before the knocker got impatient and sped the pace of the knocks up. "Lucyyyyyyy!" The blonde called, rocking on the balls of her feet as she waited at the doorway. "Luuuuuucyyyyyy!"

Once upon a time, when they were just children, Eve Summers had managed to get into the house by climbing a tree up to the bedroom windows and gave Lucien Everard a heart attack when he found her sitting on his bed or arranging the clothes in his closet. Over the years, he had gotten used to it, though the only time he hadn't given her a grumpy face was when he found her sniffling on his bed, cheeks streaked with tears. Of course, the intrusions did not go on... could not go on; Eve would have gladly done the same even now at 22, because Lucy had installed locks in the windows.

With a frown, she pulled her cellphone out of her pocket and started texting Lucy frantically.

Eve Summers

Oh for Chrissake.

Lucien had been, as Eve had predicted, in the midst of reading a new book when he was promptly assaulted by the flurry of texts. Up until that point, he had been woefully ignorant of the fact that the blonde girl was outside, having lost himself to the world portrayed in the novel. It was easy to ignored a muffled voice yelling for him from outside, but a continuously buzzing phone was a whole different matter.

Lifting his gaze from the page he had been scanning, the young man scowled as he lifted his reading glasses, propping them atop his head like a pair of sunglasses. Tucking a bookmark in between the pages, he carefully set it down on his bedside table before rushing over to retrieve his phone. Lucien crossed the room in three long strides, quickly reaching for the object that was vibrating so violently that it seemed to be close to throwing itself over the edge of his desk.

And the damn thing would have ended up on the floor had he not snatched it up at the last moment. Brows creased and lips curved into a deep frown, the blond scanned the texts quickly before marching over to his window, undoing the lock and pushing it open with a groan.

"You are such a brat." He called out to her, propping his elbows up on the windowsill and staring down at his friend dully.

Eve was certainly not a very patient person.

This was the girl who would switch on the stove and get bored with having to wait for the pan to heat up that she would skip off to check her phone. It was always wise for someone else to be present whenever Eve wanted to cook.

She was tapping her foot impatiently while wondering if Lucy needed another barrage of texts when a familiar voice called out to her. Immediately, a smile came to her face, and Eve tilted her head upwards to grin at the male she had been harassing. "Lucy, come on! You're not expecting me to climb up there again, are you?" Although if he was going to stubbornly stick by his window, she would probably do it.

"You weren't answering the door, you jerk." She whined up at him, and completed the sentence with a pout.

Staring down at her from his window, the blond blinked slowly, his expression not unlike that of an unamused cat's...which was actually a pretty accurate description of how he was feeling right now. Here he was, kitty Lucien, staring down at puppy Eve as she barked incessantly in his ear while he was trying to get some rest.

The thought made him crack a smile, but he quickly shook it away before letting out a loud sigh. "What do you want?" He demanded, propping his elbow up on the sill and setting his chin in the palm of his hand, "Please tell me you're not here to destroy my closet again." He had just bought a couple of new shirts the other day, and the last thing he wanted was for the girl to start criticizing his choices.

...Though to be fair, those shirts he bought had all been black button ups with only the slightest of changes. He wasn't one for variety.

For a moment, it looked like Lucien really did expect the girl to climb up, but then he turned to call out over his shoulder. "Nadia, Aidan! Eve's at the door! Can you let her i--"

He didn't even get to finish his request. There was the sound of rapidly pounding feet as the twins rushed down the stairs, and then the sound of the door being flung open. Lucien turned back to peer out of the window just in time to see his two, tiny siblings launching themselves at Eve, each of them wrapping their arms around one of her legs.

...Okay, fine, that was pretty cute. The corners of his lips pulled upwards in a faint smile, and then he too left his room, heading down the stairs to greet their irritating visitor.

If Eve knew Lucy's thoughts, she would be in a hundred percent agreement, except that she would point out that he was a really boring cat and all she was trying to do was to bring some joy into his grey and dull life.

"I brought groceries!" She called up cheerfully, lifting her arms to show him the bags in her hands. "Well, more like ingredients for baking but you get what I mean! I wanted to make a tart but Rea's not home and I can't cook alone because it's so boring so I decided to come over!"

...Eve certainly wasn't going to rule out sifting through his closet while waiting around for the tart to be done, however. Lucy didn't need to know that.

The girl's face lit up considerably when the two names were called, positively vibrating in delight. Eve didn't have to wait long till the twins barreled into her, laughing as she dropped her bags onto the doorstep and enveloped them both in a hug. "Ahhhh, hello my dear cupcakes! Missed me, haven't you?" Eve hadn't minded so much that she had grown up being the only child of the family, especially when she could easily hop over the Everard's house and automatically become a big sister to two cute munchkins.

"You know, next time, I should just call you two to open the door instead of your boring old brother."

”Don’t call my baby siblings after foodstuffs,” Lucien protested as he came into view, wrinkling his nose. Leaning against the doorframe, he eyed the bags that Eve had brought with her, arms folding over his chest. She had wanted to bake, she said? And she was here because she didn’t want to do it alone? He supposed that that was a reasonable explanation.

Except knowing Eve… ”You sure you just didn’t want to risk setting your place on fire? The man asked dryly, a hint of humour in his voice, ”Because knowing you…” Trailing off, he pushed himself off of the door and moved over to where his siblings were, hefted each of them up beneath his arms like two flour bags. While they giggled and wriggling in protest, Lucien leaned in close to Eve, brows furrowed and lips curled into a scowl.

”And I heard that. I am not boring—you just fail to appreciate great literature the way that I do.” His reading glasses chose that moment to slide down from atop his head, conveniently settling in place against the bridge of his nose. Had the blond man been the type to have a flair for the dramatic, one could assume that he had planned that, but…no. This was Lucien. It had just been a neat coinky-dink.

with two wriggling kids beneath each arm, he sighed and turned back to the door, making his way back insider. ”Come on then, Eve. Get in here before I decide to change my mind and lock you out a again.

Not that he really would—for all his snarking, he did see her affectionately as another little sister, and she knew it—but that still didn’t stop him from shooting half-hearted threats at her.

"Well, they're certainly not complaining." Eve retorted, ruffling the twins' hair. And it wasn't as if Lucy could stop her! If he had the power to, he certainly wouldn't be still called boring. Beside, it was a cute nickname, and she was all about cute nicknames for her favorite pseudo little siblings.

"Hey! I've never set my place on fire!" She stood up in protest, tilting her head at him as he scooped the two kids away from her. Maybe she left the oil sizzling in the pan for too long at times, but her cooking adventures had never resulted in her blowing anything up due to negligence.

"You make it sound like I'm some uneducated boor." Eve huffed, using a finger to push his glasses up on his nose. She certainly would have been impressed by the little theatric if she hadn't known Lucy for ages; he was not one for such impressive flairs. "I just think, you should, you know be more open to the world that is around you rather than constantly diving into the world of your books. Healthy balance and all that."

The girl stooped down again to grab her backs and followed dutifully after him. "You wouldn't lock me out. The kids would let me in again, right, Aidan? Right, Nadia?"

Recognizing that there was no point trying to argue with the girl, Lucien simply sighed, though her comment about having never set her place on fire did earn a skeptical look. As he saw it, he would never let Eve cook alone with his siblings unless he was there to supervise. It wasn't like he expected for her to blow up the whole kitchen--including all three of them--but--...

...Wait no, that was exactly what he would expect to happen.

"I am open to the world around me," He grumbled in reply, removing his glasses and hooking them onto his shirt--a button up, of course--pocket, "Sometimes the world around me is just markedly more irritating than the world in novels. Except..."

There was a pause, and then he wrinkled his nose. "Lately, I can't read any novels about superheros fighting monsters anymore. It's just too weird." To his siblings, it would just sound like he had grown bored of the genre (which really hadn't been his thing in the first place, to be honest). To Eve though, he was stating the fact that it wasn't exactly enjoyable now that it was reality for him.

But enough of that. Heading towards the kitchen with both of his siblings in his arms, the blond let out a loud sigh as the twins let out of a chorus of "Of course, Eve!" and "Always!" at the girl's question.

She certainly caught the look he gave her, though Eve basically just ignored it. It had been on the tip of her tongue to retort that the only thing that had blown up in her presence were youma, but of course, Eve would never expose Aidan and Nadia to such a life. Never ever ever. It had been enough of a shock to find out that Lucy was a Knight, and she would kick any guardian cats away from them lest they decided to awaken them as chibi Senshis.

Nope. Not on her watch.

"You're weird." She retorted, hauling her grocery bags atop the kitchen table. Usually her quips sounded a lot more teasing than that; her tone was markedly softer than usual. Sometimes catching superhero-ed cartoons on television while channel surfing had certainly made her pause and wonder if there were others out there like them. Other superheroes in other cities, busy with their own super villains.

But Eve was not one for sighing. It was easy for her to plaster a bright smile on her face, and how could a smile not be genuine when faced with two children that adored her very presence? "Guess what? I bought ingredients for a raspberry tart today! Doesn't that sound great?"
