It had been some time since Ciro had last seen the old stallion that pulled her from the river. In that time, she had grown up, loved and been hurt, raised children of her own and now often stood mostly alone in the open plains of her home. Some days she wondered about how he was and where the two-leggers were living now. She knew they traveled, but it seemed like it was many years before they ever returned to an old land.

The call of a hawk overhead drew the mare out of her thoughts. Ciro looked up and watched in silence as the bird curiously circled her position a few times before taking off across the plains.

"What was that all about...?" She murmured, slightly curious now.

Ayashe had never wandered so far from the two-legger camp before. She rarely left their sight and yet here she was, quite a ways away now. The tribe's camp was just barely visible in the distance. The young mare took a deep breath and looked ahead of her once more to resume her journey.

"I know I won't be gone long...but I don't want them to think I ran off for good, or come chasing me down with ropes." She huffed at the idea of the rope around her neck again and quickly pressed on. "Father better be right in saying this family is still out here. Otherwise this venture will have been worthless." She grumbled.

A hawk's call rang out overhead, circling and settling down on her back alongside a younger hawk already residing there.

"He described a filly, who would now be a mare, older than you...tan and red like the setting sun, with strong wings that could carry her."

"That's right." Ayashe said, pausing again to look back at her companion. "Did you see her? Or anyone that may know of her?"

"I'm certain I found her, not far ahead. Your father best be correct in trusting her...I do not want my children in the wrong care."

"Father would never lie like that. You need to not be so worrisome, Cetan."

"I'm sure it was nothing."Ciro just decided to put the hawk out of mind and ruffled her wings a bit, eventually stretching them out. "Mmmn...a nice flight over to the river sounds nice..."

As she kicked off the ground and took off, a figure slowly crossing the plains grabbed her attention. It wasn't unusual to see another, she was just slightly surprised that it was anyone but her father or son at this time of day. Ciro hovered in place for a short time before proceeding closer to the newcomer in the plains. She was almost surprised to see it was such a young mare, alone save for two hawks sitting on her back.

"Well she's an unusual sight...must be pretty tough to be out here alone like this..." Ciro debated for a moment, deciding the new mare couldn't be so bad and circled to land before her. "Hello there. What brings you out this way?" She asked, tilting her head.

Ayashe jumped, startled by the sudden arrival of the very bright mare thumping onto the ground before her. "Excuse you, it's incredibly rude to just drop out of the sky like that you know!" She huffed, staring the older mare down.

"Ayashe--!" The tan hawk, Cetan, called nipping at her neck. "Watch your manners yourself! This is her!"

"Her...Cetan she--" Ayashe narrowed her eyes and gazed back at the winged mare before her. Tan. Bright red. Wings, ribbons, feathers. "Hello..." She started tentatively, taking her in. "Would your name happen to be, Ciro? Are you from here? If you're not, do you know her?" She asked quite firmly. "I need to find her and my father has reason to believe she still lives in these plains."

"What's so urgent that you're asking like that?" Ciro asked, stepping back from the young mare and her hawks slightly. "I mean yes...I am who you think I am, but...I'm curious now. How do you know me? I've never met you and you don't look like anyone I could have possibly met before...."

She moved to circle the other slowly, taking her in carefully. She wore a strange feathered mask, with no visible mane beneath or running down her neck, and her tail was braided quite tightly. "You look well cared for, are you from a two-legger's camp?" She asked, leaning closer again and paying for it with a sharp peck to the nose from the tan hawk.

"Ow! I'm sorry! I don't want to hurt her, especially if she knows me somehow!" Ciro quickly back-peddled away, not wanting to get hit again.

"Well, father was right. Good. Perfect." Ayashe stated with a firm nod of her head. "Glad to see you still reside here. Though I'm not sure why, these plains are open and easy to get caught by something. You saw me from overhead, that's proof enough of their danger." She snorted, turning her head to watch the other circle her.

"And no, we've never met before and yes I am from a two-legger's tribe. Not too far from here, I'm sure at night you would see it if you were paying attention." Her eyes widened in surprise as her companion lashed out, catching Ciro in the nose. "Cetan! She confirmed that she's the one we're looking for! If she wanted to hurt us, she would have lashed out by now. Don't criticize me on my manners if you can't hold back on yours."

The hawk glared between Ayashe and Ciro, ruffling her feathers up in frustration. "You best not be planning to hurt us."

"So I'm sure you're wondering why I'm here...."

Ciro turned her head, looking towards the direction of said camp. She thought she saw something in that direction, but from their position it was quite difficult to see in the daylight. "Interesting...I wonder..." She smiled a bit and looked back at Ayashe.

"Yes, why are you hunting me down? You've more than got my attention, even with your battle-axe friend there." She said, smiling slightly and giving Cetan a look. "You'll have to forgive me...I never really get visitors or anyone that has any reason to see me except for my family." Ciro sighed softly, making herself feel terrible again.

"Well now you have a visitor, enjoy it." Ayashe snorted, not quite sure what to think of Ciro at this point. "Anyway, Cetan, our gift please?"

Cetan continued to stare down Ciro for several moments, hesitant to say anything about the other hawk long sitting in silence with them. "Someone was insistent upon helping my children find others to watch over." She stated, her voice revealing she was still not keen on the idea. "Two of them have already flown the nest with the father, and Ayashe claims it will be safer to find others to care for the rest. This is the youngest, Ivo."

"Father told us to hunt down a filly he once rescued and led home. He said that if his thoughts were correct, she could use a friend and protector." Ayashe told her, the rough air around her disappearing. "We figured this little one would grow up and be perfect for you."

"Well that's very kind...I never thought about finding a companion like this before..." Ciro murmured, looking the young, pinkish hawk over. "Ivo huh..." She smiled and extended a wing towards him. "I promise I'm harmless...I have a fairly rough time protecting myself, there's no way I could bring myself to hurt you."

Ivo continued to gaze at her in silence. Several minutes passed before he hopped up off Ayashe's back and found a strong spot to perch upon Ciro's wing. "A brightly colored flier. Like me." He finally said, looking into her eyes.

Ciro nodded and looked back towards Ayashe and Cetan. "See, I'm worthless and harmless...but...now I'm curious. You said your father? He rescued me?" She asked with a tilt of her head.

Cetan ruffled her feathers once more, turning her back on the winged mare once the younger hawk moved on.

"Ignore her...she was raised with the intention to be a protector for me." Ayashe smirked, bumping her companion with her nose. "She's appreciative of you being a good companion to Ivo."

A smirk crossed her face again at the recognition Ciro showed for her father. "Yes, Hiamovi. Old, soft-spoken, headdress and all that. Father said it's been many moons since the two-leggers were last in this place. We move so rarely and I believe it's because of resources or something. You're welcome to come to the camp anyti--no you know what? Forget that. We'll come see you. They're collecting others and the ropes are really unpleasant. Somehow I don't see you as the type to want to be tied down like us."

A bright grin light up Ciro's face. It had been a long time since she had felt this happy over something so trivial and silly. "I do remember him! If it weren't for him I wouldn't be here today! My own father was incredibly thankful..." She murmured softly. "I'm glad myself, even nowadays..."

Ciro followed suit and gently nuzzled Ivo, turning her attention then to the camp over the horizon again. "I don't think I'll be getting too close. I've overheard stories from others passing through the plains. I'm glad you and others can feel so comfortable among them, but I don't want to be under their control like that. I enjoy freedom....it's gotten me into trouble and I've made stupid decisions...but it's nice all the same."

Ayashe nodded, staying silent for a long time and staring in the direction of the camp with her. "Yeah...I'm sure freedom is nice..." She mumbled. "I guess if we ever find ourselves in a position of freedom, we'll come here. Live in the plains like you do." The young mare nodded and looked back at Ciro once more.

"Either way, I should return now. We may be allowed to wander and graze but they hunt us down eventually." She huffed, tensing up again for the journey back to the tribe's camp.

Cetan turned her head to stare down Ciro and Ivo as Ayashe began to walk back. "You keep your promise." She called, narrowing her eyes. "I mean it."
