Julian


Julian had been quiet throughout the entire trip home. He lifted his gaze to meet Liam's when they reached home, his expression solemn, almost contemplating whether to really stay hating him right now or not. Ultimately he decided against it, the weird doctor looked really upset. As Liam searched for clothes for him to change into, an unfiltered question escaped the boy's lips.
"Where's the weird policeman?"

"How?" Julian asked once more, not budging from his spot. "You two are always together, aren't you? Are you leaving him?" he asked with a light tilt of his head, though his expression remained cold. Perhaps it made sense since he was an orphan and well versed on the subject of dysfunctional families, and he would probably not be surprised to be forced to bear witness to another destruction. In fact, he might have actually predicted it.

The little boy leaned back lightly and felt his eyes widen when Liam snapped at him. He was expecting an irritated reply, but not one so close to a break down. Julian watched Liam confront him about his rage. How nostalgic. That anger and distance, it reminded him a lot of...
"My mother." he finally said. "You're just like her. You both are just like my parents." With a shift of movement he jumped off the bed and walked towards the doctor. Even the officer reminded him of his dad, how optimistic he was. So maybe that's why he hated them so much, because he was waiting for the time they left him, too. And maybe it was because they were like his parents that he didn't want them to separate. This was the second chance he had lost hope in, and he didn't want to ruin it, either.
Stopping in front of Liam, Julian looked up at his face then at eye level, which meant staring at his stomach. He did nothing for a minute, then he leaned in and gave him a hug. "Whether I hate you or not, you two are all I have." he mumbled with as empty a face as possible. "And... you're not all bad. So stop being sad."

Despite his cold frown, his eyes shined with interest. "Can I poke their eyeball?" he asked then quickly added, "With a knife?"

Taken to the victim's room, Julian wondered how long the strange doctor had, and if he would have tortured him anyway with or without him. A boy of his word, though, he curled his tiny fingers around the handle of the scalpel then wriggled out of Liam's grip. He hopped onto the bed and scrambled towards the struggling man. He tilted his head at the fearful gaze that met his and, without any hint of remorse or self-conflict, he began to curiously poke one of the eyes - both when it was close and opened - with the tip of the blade.

With the slip of the wrist the blade sank into the slit between the eye and the socket, pushing out a gasp of a scream from the victim. Julian, however, only stared in interest then smiled widely. It always hurts first, but that meant it was working. Soon this strange man would be able to see all his friends again and he wouldn't cry and complain anymore. And so Julian wiggled the blade inside the man's eye, blood gushing out and the eyeball threatening to pop out, all to the boy's delight. He only dared looking away when Liam showed him the veins. "Why are they cut?" he asked and turned to face them, leaving the blade inside the man's eye.

"Woooow." Julian breathed, eyes wide with interest as he stared at the small cuts on the veins. "Do all of the veins do that? Even in the eyes?" he asked and looked up at Liam with wide, curious eyes. He'd look almost innocent if there wasn't blood on him.
