BIO
The Reine family has always been one of extreme privilege and prestige. They're an old money family, valuing blood purity above all else, with reputation a close second. So important, in fact, that through the years, family members have often turned to incest, as a means to ensure they don't taint their blood with lesser names. Perfection is, of course, expected and necessary, so the family will frequently dispose of babies born with deformities, caused by the rampant incest. Generally, they don't blame themselves, or even feel guilty - it's simple a means to achieve what truly matters. The Reine family is mostly blonde haired and blue eyed. Individuals who are not are from 'outcross' marriages, and are usually looked down upon within the family. The family has never followed or believed in the old ways - they believe themselves above silly superstitions.
Jocelyn has never proven an exception. Her parents - cousins - experienced a difficult time conceiving, before they were finally blessed with a girl - and it was a miracle that both mother and child survived the ordeal. Thankfully, Jocelyn was everything her parents - and family - could have ever hoped for in a child - healthy, glowing with beauty, and never questioned their ways. Nothing changed as she grew, and once she came of age, her parents announced her engagement - one Jocelyn had known nothing about, and to a man twice her age. In that instant, Jocelyn panicked, and claimed she already had a lover, one she intended to marry. Her parents were perplexed, but since she assured them that he was in the family, they dropped her previous engagement.
But Jocelyn had lied - there was no lover, and thus, no husband. She cursed herself for the impulse, but she refused to unravel the lie; she was determined to see it through. She "eloped", which gave her time to weave her story - her husband was a distant second cousin, one who's parents had died long ago and who studied abroad, explaining why no one had heard of him. It wasn't much, but it was something. She couldn't purchase her own property, so she moved in with a willing friend, who owned his own estate in Palisade. When it comes to public appearances and family gatherings, she will often lie, saying her husband is away on business, though will occasionally pay an acquaintance to accompany her, to keep up the facade.
