It was early morning when his mother Melanie woke him with a nudge to the side. His ears twitched and he yawned, stretching his small limbs. He didn't want too. It was waaay too early to be up.. What could she possibly want? A trek to somewhere new apparently. Which meant, a new adventure.

Traveling throughout the morning, they made it somewhere Uriel had never been before. The meadow was surprisingly warm for this time of year and he couldn't help but grin widely. The snow was almost gone from the ground, bits of green had started sprouting from the soil, the first signs of spring were finally starting to show and it brought out the best in everyone, and Uriel was no exception. With the consent of his mother, he bounded into the open field, his hooves kicking up darkened slush. He could only imagine what this place looked like in the middle of spring with the sun shinning brightly on the hundreds of flowers spreading their fragrance everywhere.

Stopping abruptly, he lifted his chin to sniff the air. Of course, the only thing he could smell was the crispness of the morning air, but it was a smell he loved and savored.

The little filly had heard of the spring grasses, the flowers, and the beauty of the meadow . . . but right now, it did not look particularly magical, or beautiful. While the meadow was greener, there was snow, and slush, and cold . . . and the tender-winged filly did not care for such things. Extreme cold could hurt her wings, and it also killed the flowers. Oh, how Utpala mourned for the blossoms her mother had told her about; little sprouts of sweet pollen that were every colour under the rainbow! They would fill the lands with sweet scents, and she could burrow into the small buds, to sip at them with the bees.

So, the mournful little filly was picking her way through the meadow, pausing to nuzzle and n** at the few, sweet grasses she found. She was a bit muddier than she liked to be, but already her imagination was at work. Their little meadow and garden would return, so promised her parents. And then soquili from all around would come marvel at it. . . and princes and princesses would taste only the sweetest flowers and grasses, and the spring and summer months would be bliss for everyone! There would be no snow, or cold, or drear. . . Just pretty flowers. Forever.

"Come on little flowers. . . it's almost time to wake up from your naps." For while flowers did die, she heard they also would bury their children deep in the earth, to sprout up for the next generation. They were sleeping, hibernating in the warm soil of their cradles. "Just don't come too soon," she whispered to the earth, "In case it snows again." So it was, she pawed gently at a small patch before moving onto the next -- and stopping.

She heard something. Just over a small ridge of land, a hill within the meadow. Her ears twitched, and for a moment she pondered shrinking small. But oh, she wasn't very good at it, and with it being so cool in the morning, she wasn't sure her delicate wings would do well at such a small size. Was that. . . someone running? Was it someone who needed a knight? Was it a princess come to visit? Was it a great trader come to sell goods, or a two-legger that held the moon? Stories and great deeds and epic battles began to form in her head, and Utpala didn't think twice about whether or not she should hide.

She wasn't afraid. Nothing bad would get her here in this meadow. This was her parents land, and surely, all would be well. So, with a little twitch of her tail, the blue and green filly marched up the hill, peeking just above the ridge to see what itw as she had heard. Was it a knight? She hoped so. Or maybe a prince! That would be perfect to tell her siblings such a tale!

The little stallion trotted around the area slowly, his muzzle snuffing some of the snow around inadvertently letting the growing sun slowly warm the earth below. Uriel couldn't help but think of how nice this place was during the summer. During these cold months it seemed a bit.. plain. But then, everything was hibernating. At least, that's what his mother always said. Everything hibernated during the winter, just like bears.

If only his brother and sister was here. This trip was fun, but alone... there wasn't much to do.

Uriel gathered up a loose twigs and sticks, stacking them in a neat pile. When he was satisfied he'd collected a good amount, he used his mouth to stick them vertically into the muddy ground. After sticking in about 6 small sticks, it was evident he planned on making a house or castle of some sort, a small one, but a nice one none the less. Eyeing his structure more carefully he nodded in approval. The walls were done, but it still lacked a roof, which would be hardest part to do by himself.

What she saw before he wasn't what she expected - - instead of a great knight, or perhaps even a king and his court, all she saw was a pale, little colt! She hadn't met anyone her age, not outside of her siblings, and this one was definitely not at all like her! He was pale with black stripes, and not much colour aside from the red in his mane. But he had the most peculiar tail! It was long and unlike anything she'd ever seen. Still, just because he wasn't some sort of adult royal, didn't mean that he wasn't a lost prince or a knight in training, and maybe planting sticks was some ritual from a foreign kingdom. Maybe he was making little obstacles for the local insects or mice, or maybe he was just trying to plant a tree and not doing a very good job at it.

Regardless, the bright colored filly gave a wag of her tail and a little flutter of her wings. She was far from shy, and knew that she should be polite and introduce herself. So it was, she picked her way down the little ridge, sliding a bit on the damp earth, but managing to keep to her hooves. Trotting forward, she beamed happily at the stranger -- a knight in training. Had to be. Yup. A knight who would someday discover himself to be a great prince of some foreign land far, far away. "Hello strange knight! What'cha doing?" She questioned brightly, stopping long enough to give the other a bow.

It was polite, or so that's what all the stories said.
