◈ Into the Thick of It ◈ (Marching to War)
|| IC ||
The leaders of Tendaji marched forward, followed by the great mass of people they were leading behind them, all willing to fight for their freedom against a tyrant king.
Enki and Yansa led the front lines, pushing through last minute orders to prepare those who were marching forward to take the lead. Those with short range weapons were told to keep near the front, those with spear behind them.
Vescillea, Freya, and Besian kept up the second half of the battlers, those with magic and arrows taking the very back, told to keep a safe distance from the thick of battle. Besian gave orders and instructions to the defense, splitting the group into near halves. The smaller half was going to be in the front with the offense, they would guard and protect as necessary. Besian made sure to assign those with gauntlets and hammers to that group. Those with shields, along with a group of hammer and gauntlet weilders were to keep the long distance users safe, using their shields to defend both while the hammers and gauntlets were to prepare for any breach in their offense, keeping Obans away from their magic users.
After the mile hike, there was a vibration emenating from the ground. The trees were less dense here, being the edge of Jauhar and Oba, and the reverberations seemed large. The other side was moving.
The elders halted the group, it was the calm before the storm. Vescillea spoke out softly to the archers and magic users. "Prepare an attack... just in case." The vibration continued, growing closer, and who knew how the other side would strike first.

[Ruelash -> Waiting impatiently]
Walking was boring. It was only a mile - Ruelash was used to hiking across more than that over rough, icy terrain. He was so pumped up and ready to fight that the comparatively boring activity of walking felt like it took an eternity. Of course, a march with a group is different than a hike in a lonely wilderness, but that didn't make it any better. In fact, that made it worse! Even in a march to war, the people around him annoyed him. It was better than before - he didn't hate every single thing that the people around him did. In fact, he didn't dislike all of them. But he was not in the mood to deal with stuff now - he was in a mood to kill, and kill people at that. And, not having seen the enemy for a long-seeming mile, he was starting to get antsy with repressed ferocity. He needed a target, and the more he had to wait, the more likely it was that he would find his own target. That was not a good thing.
He wished he'd let off more steam in his sparring with whatshername dual blade leaf girl. That had been fun. Maybe if it had lasted longer, he wouldn't feel so uncomfortably in need of release. He grumbled quietely and sourly to himself. Why was it taking so long? Were those Obans even really here?!
His question was answered as the group was stopped, the mounting tension and growing vibrations told him that they were here. He drew his blades, eyes and bare teeth glittering with apprehension, as he positively vibrated eagerness.
He was on the front lines, his blades were ready. He needed only to be loosed, like an arrow from a bow, and he'd start using them.

Rayolun (6 posts in last thread. 1st for this thread)Rayolun grumbled when he heard another approach him in the trees. He preferred to hunt alone thank you very much... but this wasn't really a hunt, it was war. With a sigh he shrugged and figured may as well let her tag along. "Fine. Just be quiet and stay slightly away. I prefer to be alone. And if there's two of us to close together, we'll be easier to spot." Rayolun's nerves were on edge and he wasn't in the mood to be polite. Traversing the treetops in front of the army, he hadn't seen anything yet when the ground started to shake. He tightened his grip the trident's shaft as he felt the vibrations coming from the ground and shaking the tree slightly. He jumped to another tree that had thicker leafy cover and crouched, ready to jump from above on what ever came his way. Vollerei: (6 posts in last thread. 1st in this thread)Vollerei found herself standing behind the short range warriors. Her height meant she could easily see over the earthlings in front of her and had a good view of whatever was in front of them. Which was trees. Yay. Lovely view, she thought grumpily as she chewed on a strip of dried meat. I should have brought more snacks... walking's just making me more hungry. Her single full antenna twitched as she felt the vibrations beneath her feet. Odd.... Either really big creature, or lots of marching feet. Just how large was the force facing us again?

Rishima Post 8 The walk with the others toward the battlefield wasn't really all that long a walk but for some reason it felt like it was taking an eternity to get to where they were going. It was that last little bit of calm before the storm and it was doing nothing but putting him on edge. Why hadn't they at least seen someone from Oba yet? Were they laying in wait? Were they preparing an ambush? If it was him that was what he'd do. Knowing that had his mismatched eyes flicking from side to side, as well as forward, looking for anywhere that the southerners might be hiding at the moment but without any such luck. It was as the ground itself started to shake that he found himself coming up short, his antennae twitching rapidly, his hands tightening on his weapon, "Something feels really strange." He murmured, sliding one barefoot across the ground in a thoughtful manner. The very earth was shaking, wasn't it? It meant that either something big was on its way or something numerous. Either way he couldn't help but to feel a bit more on edge. Something was out there, he could tell, it wasn't just him that was getting shook up by whatever it might be. As such he couldn't help it as his gaze went first to where Jerarda was and then over to Gerraden, wanting to know the location of both of them before whatever was coming arrived. Lifting on hand up he found himself for a moment reaching out toward Gerraden, a part of him wanting to grab hold of him to drag him closer, maybe even behind Rishima were he'd be safer, but he refrained. If things looked as though they were getting too dangerous for Gerraden he would see about protecting him. Until then he needed to let the swordsman have at least a little space of his own. The last thing he wanted after all was for their sisters to think that Rishima was coddling Gerr for whatever reason, of which Rishi could probably list many.

Jacinthus Post 7
Jacinthus knelt down when the group came to a halt, glancing over at Takoda for a moment before his attention was back to the ground before him. He reached out a hand to let it hover over the ground and for a moment he couldn't help but to stare. It was shaking, wasn't it? Oba really wasn't pulling any punches when it came to dealing with those that stood between them and their invasion plans. If anything it just the man a bit more riled up then he already was though he couldn't let it show because he didn't want to worry Takoda. Instead he pushed back to his feet once more, taking a half step closer to his mate, feeling that he had to keep close to him if he wanted to keep him safe. Just not close enough that he was impede the Shifter's magic was all.
As he heard Vescillea speak to them in a quiet voice, telling them to prepare an attack 'just in case' as she put it, his hand went to his quiver. There wasn't really a 'just in case' scenario, not as though Oba would come forth, see them, then decide to just go home. No, they were getting ready with their attacks because there would be a battle, because they would need to fight to try to protect themselves, their loved ones, their villages, and their lands. There was no 'just in case' but it was a thought that he kept to himself. Instead he mere gave Takoda a glance and murmured, "I love you, Takoda." To hell with who heard him, it was a declaration he felt he needed to make at the moment.
Turning his attention back to what was going on in front of them, knowing his sister was out there somewhere, he notched his arrow and readied himself. He'd fire when needed to do so, it was only a matter of how long between now and that moment.

Chalcedony Post 6
Turning to look across the battlefield over his shield Chal couldn't help but to find it a little strange that he was going to be protecting Jacinthus, amongst others. Probably a good thing, it was one more step toward being able to be around the guy without wanting to pummel him with his shield he thought to himself, shifting his weight and that of the large weapon he carried. He could feel the ground shifting under his feet but he didn't let it get to him. If anything he merely changed his stance, making sure that he was balanced despite the way the ground felt like it was shifting under him. His personal weight and that of his shield would be enough to keep him stable so long as he held the right stance.
Others around him were preparing just as he was, they were the first line of defense after all, they were the ones that had to keep the others safe. It was what he'd been trained for and now was the time to use those skills that he'd been honing. He could only hope that he'd done enough before now since there was no longer any time for him to get suddenly or magically stronger. He had to be confident in what he'd done and what he could do instead.
Holding his breath a moment to steady the last of his jittery nerves he turned his attention to the area in front of him and waited for what he knew was coming.

Yaholo post 9 Yaholo's ears twitched as the vibration pulsed through the ground, his mouth twisting into a sour expression. His forehead was sensitive to the vibrations, despite his antennae no longer being there, and instead of it being helpful, it was slightly painful. He sighed, gripped the handle of his hammer tightly, and turned to Rastian. "Stay with me as long as you can." He muttered, gazing across the way to where Tahigwa stood, before glancing to Ogbonna. Good... Everyone was in line. Maybe they would be okay after all of this.Rastian post 9 The olive eyed Monk peered up towards his friend as he was addressed and gave the Massif a nod of confirmation. They were going to look out for each other, which was easier said than done, but it was surmountable if they both stayed smart out there. He clutched his staff close to his chest, took a deep breath in, and let it out slowly. "As long as you do the same, Yaho." He replied. Tahigwa post 9 Marching was, so far, doing absolutely nothing for Tahigwa's nerves. She continued to watch Yansa and the elders from her position, her gaze level and anxious. This vibration from the other side was annoying, both in the sense of anxiety and the physical sense, her antennae were wiggling all over! "Uggggh...." She groaned, her gaze moving towards where she knew her brother was standing. She couldn't see him, she knew he was there, but would he be able to help her if she needed him? She gulped, rubbed her foot against the ground, and gazed forward again. Staring at Yansa's back was just as irritating as not being able to see her brother... Ogbonna post 9 Ogbonna kept Nua as close to his side as possible while they marched along with the others. His position was fairly close to his uncle and Yaholo, which gave him a sense of relief, because they would be of use if either he or Nua fell, but, at the same time, it made him feel as though he had to perform more. They would be expecting him to battle up to par with their level, right? "Nua..." He said, placing his hand on his friend's shoulder. "Don't do anything reckless... Okay?"

Aminah (Post 8 )
Aminah's eyes shifted between the group, the trees above, and the ground vibrating underfoot. Her nerves were building up, causing her to tense and reach for her staff. Vescillea mentioned preparing an attack and it was all the reason Aminah needed to pull out her staff and keep her eyes focused in front of her.
She tried to peer over the others and into the front to see what was going on, but she was too short to see over the Alkidike standing in the front line of things. Her eyes reached out and peered over all of the heads in the crowd and found a familiar sight. She could clearly see Jerarda's head, even from way back here her hair was too unique to be missed. She inhaled quickly and hoped she stayed safe in all of this.
Standing with her hands clenching her staff she waiting, hoping for the best.

Ethelfleade: post 9, Rayolun"Of course." Fleade said curtly back. Emotions were high and this was a dangerous time. She couldn't blame him for being weary of having somebody with him. Fleade could only hope that her being there didn't make him feel like he was "responsible" for her, like so many guys had the tendency to do about girls. As he lept to another tree, she took care to choose one a few over from his, hiding amongst the leaves hoping she wasn't too much of a sore thumb in the trees. Her hands gripped her sword and the tree as the ground started to vibrate, signalling that the enemy was on the move too. Her eyes were wide as she tired to catch any kind of movement in the wooded area.

[Hijil -> Waiting] Hijil's mouth was dry and her heart raced. The waiting was painful, and she wanted it to be over.
But she also didn't. She knew this was the calm before the storm, and she was not looking forward to the storm. The storm would rip away lives and happiness, consigning them to oblivion.
She had brushed that oblivion before, and she was scared. She was very scared.
She had been assigned to the front lines, and that meant that it was up to her to protect those behind her. She had accepted the orders quietly and respectfully, knowing that her place was wherever she was told to go. The elders were wiser than she.
She would do her duty even though she was afraid. She repeated this to herself, over and over, waiting for the inevitable.[Nuawahn -> Ogbonna -> Waiting] Nuawahn smiled at Ogbonna. "Kay!" he said, whispering. Everybody was being quiet, so Nua followed suit. He was excited at the tension in the air - excited and a little nervous. But only a little. A grand Adventure was about to begin, and he and all these wonderful people were going to be a part of it. He stirred at his magic, warming it up so that he could be ready to be a healer when the time came.

The vibrations in the ground seemed to get more intense, definitely coming closer to their position in the forest. The people of Tendaji seemed to be holding their breath, waiting for what was going to happen next.
Out from the brush of the forest, Obans began to emerge, lines up in a formation and stopping a short distance from the people of Tendaji. A leader stood away from the group, holding his spear in hand and looking out into the crowd of people planning on opposing them on this day. He opened his mouth to speak, his words calling out to the large group in front of him. "Who controls this shabby group of battlers?" His voice echoed into the forest. "Now is the last chance you will have to stand down and be spared death and enslavement."
The leaders of Tendaji knew full well that there was no alternative to fighting at this point. Their scouts might not have been able to get much information about the warriors of Oba, but they had also been spying on the King, and they knew what was to happen if they stood down. "I don't see how we will be spared anything." Enki yelled out, coming forward from the front line. Yansa moved to join him, keeping him from being vulnerable, though not speaking out herself. "This is your last chance to turn back and leave without harm." Enki finished.
The leader scoffed at the leaf earthling's reply. "Well, if that is your final effort at saving your people..." He trailed off.
The leaders within the group of fighters began to whisper rushed instructions to fully prepare for attack. To draw their weapons and gather their attention. This was it. This was how things would start.
The leader, without another word, threw down his arm in a gesture of advance and the crowd of people behind him began pouring through the forest, ready for the attack.
[The people of Tendaji will be RPing their battle until the battle system is introduced. Characters may fight unnamed Obans and will have to deal with those that get in their way as they like. Characters may choose to RP battling together with friends, or just survive on their own until prompted otherwise. Any questions can be asked in the main thread.]

Jerarda Post 7 Though she tried to stick with Yansa with the threat of battle looming suddenly she found herself split up from her elder. Though she wasn't perturbed by being alone, she wondered if she should go find Rishima, and his friends. But that was selfish of her, to put her own worries and concerns ahead of the fight ahead of her. Feeling herself bristle at the opposing leader's comments about becoming slaves she felt her hands tighten on the shaft of her spear. Too soon it was time to charge, to advance on the group that was now flooding the forest. She had to wonder how arrogant these people from Oba were. The forest was their enemies home...wouldn't they have the upper hand knowing the terrain? Shaking her head the first thing she did was scale into a nearby tree, it was true that she didn't have any method of attacking with range, but her intent wasn't to engage just yet, but to get closer to the leader or more important leaders and take them out. Generally speaking once leaders were disposed off a army had a hard time being able to stick together. It would fall apart or at least that was her hope. But amongst the vast amount of people flooding through she had lost sight of him and cursed as she was forced to search him out.

Aminah (Post 9)
Aminah leaned in to hear what was going on in the front. The Obans had appeared and it was making Aminah sick with worry and anticipation. Before she could recognize what was going on, Vescillea, Enlil, Freya, all of the leaders in the group began to talk of getting ready. This was the final calm. This was it. It would all be decided here and she needed to be prepared. She took a deep breath in through her nose and her staff's crystal began to glow, readying with magic for an attack.
Something changed in the front and the Obans began to pour into the forest, swinging weapons of all kinds. They were coming closer, and getting caught up in the front line of the assault. Aminah couldn't see from where she was, and everyone had seemed to break formation to do what they could, so she made the decision to see what she could see from one of the trees. She scrambled onto one of the trees, trying her best to not be noticed. The last thing she needed was to get attacked while she was climbing a tree. She secured herself as well as she could with one arm and with the other launched a fire ball at an Oban coming too close for comfort to one of her own.

Gerraden Post 6 Gerraden stuck close to Rishima if only because he was concerned about his 'true loves' safety. Since the last time he had been with Rishima he had worried himself to the point of exhaustion he didn't feel it was a good idea to leave him by himself again. Though he knew that Rishima was worried about his own safety he didn't need to. So noticing as they marched off to war how they ended up separated slightly, and caught the looks of Rishima looking to him he took this as a sign that he needed to get himself closer to him. Thus as soon as 'pleasantries' were over and done and the armies were on the move he made sure to bring himself closer to Rishima but with enough space to draw his weapon. True that Rishma was older and more experienced than he, he couldn't help but find himself wanting to step in front of the other hybrid and act as bodyguard. His great sword drawn he would make sure to give himself enough space the swing the weapon, but it wasn't very useful in a densely forested area like this...

Takoda Post 6 The monk shifted on the spot his body trembling as he felt the earth move under his feet. He watched as Jacinthus knelt and the flicker of emotions go past his face. It made him nervous and he couldn't help but chew the bottom of his lip. Until someone was wounded he was going to be useless here. He couldn't kill anyone...heck he had a hard enough time with seeing animals killed for food, never mind being in a war. Why didn't he stay behind with the rest of the healers? Perhaps it was due to the fact in his mind he felt he could be more useful on the battlefield. People sometimes were hurt so badly they wouldn't make it back to healing tents...and that was his role. To help those who otherwise wouldn't make it back due to their injuries. Swallowing as leaders spoke to each other, the crackle in the air making the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. It almost seemed too much light a nightmare to be real, to watch as neither would back down and then the sound as feet moved through the forest to march to their deaths. Even as others around them began to move forward he held himself back, after all there wasn't much sense in a healer going in first right? Looking to Jacinthus, he was for a split second happy that his mate with with him during this harsh time. But if his lover...go fatally wounded ..would he be able to live with himself if he couldn't save him?
